  • The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package looks good LOL

  • +1

In other words they could charge a lower price but instead they'll give away free stuff at the start so they can charge the same price and pocket the profit while also not tanking eoples resale value. Meh. Geely are not aonown brand in Australia. They need to start with cheaper pricing and work their way up the totem pole.

    • +4

I’d argue they’re doing exactly that. How much cheaper would you want it, realistically?

      • $40k d/a. If they can offer all those incentives they can do that instead.

        • +1

Meh. It’s not a huge difference in the scheme of things. I feel like if it was $40k d/a you’d be saying will only buy at $38k?

  • +2

I'll stick to me Model X, thanks though

    • Yeah but would you buy a new Elon Musk car now that it's seen less like a Model X and more like a Model Swastika?

      • +6

Purchasing a vehicle should be based on one's needs, not the delusions of others.

        • +2

What if the delusions of others interfere with your life? like those keys to doors or just general poor behaviour towards a driver of a Tesla?

You can't live in your own bubble sometimes

          • +3

@cloudy: Being a Tesla driver had its issues long before Musk made a gesture vaguely reminiscent of a certain salute. You'll find it's the case no matter what you drive - Jeep drivers are aggressive, range rover drivers entitled and selfish, BMW drivers don't use their indicators etc etc etc. If someone out there is stupid enough to base how they treat another person based on what they drive they're going to do it regardless of the vehicle. Just make the choice that's best for your needs.

            • @thatguyfromthatplace: His gesture was a heil Hitler salute, nothing less. I'm sure it was just done for trolling reasons, but it's what it is. He's the CEO of Tesla. People are going to have a long-term negative reaction to anything associated with him, and that's a consideration for me when buying a car.

              • +1

                @Morven: Pure derangement.

I think if you're the type of person who thinks Elon wants to erradicate the Jewish race along with other inferior minorities, I dont think a Tesla is for you. Maybe something with training wheels and a helmet.

                • @Oxenfree123: "I'm sure it was just done for trolling reasons" quite clearly expressed my view.

        • Any purchase should be based on what the purchaser wants, not on what you think they should base their purchases on …

      • Yeah but would you buy a new Elon Musk car now that it's seen less like a Model X and more like a Model Swastika?

I wouldn't buy a Tesla because the lack of stalks and the centre screen and the bare plastic interior are all awful design decisions

and more like a Model Swastika?

Oh dear… try not so easily buy into the hype…

        • -1

I'm clearly not bought into the hype. I said Elon did it for trolling reasons. But the fact is there's a widespread distaste for the Tesla brand right now. I wouldn't want to be seen in one.

          • +1

            @Morven: You:

I'm clearly not bought into the hype.

            Also you:

            Model Swastika

            See it now?

But the fact is there's a widespread distaste from hysterical infants for the Tesla brand right now

            FTFY

All the emotional types have done is shifted the Orange Man Bad psychopathy to Elon Man Bad and think that somehow that work differently. Don't fall into that trap.

            • +1

@1st-Amendment: "It's seen" = by others. Your reading comprehension is letting you down.

You: Don't buy into the hype.
Also you: Zealously names self after US constitutional amendment to post on Australian website.

              • @Morven:

"It's seen" = by others. Your reading comprehension is letting you down.

Well someone's comprehension is letting them down. 'It's seen as' does not necessarily mean 'by others', it means it's YOUR opinion of what you believe other people think because YOU saw something that YOU believed to be true. SO YOU have bought into some hype at some point.

Also you: Zealously names self after US constitutional amendment to post on Australian website.

Lol. You're literally here talking about an American company attempting to link them to German political movement in a thread about a Chinese product but then brain farted out the insane notion that you can only mention things that exist with national borders. I'm sure that sounded good in your head when you sharted it out your nostrils lol. Self awareness level = zero

And since you went there, the concept of free speech isn't hype, it's a very real idea that has been used in Western Society for centuries, even here in Australia with section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, or the new hate speech laws (Criminal Code Amendment (Hate Crimes) Bill 2025 (Cth)) were introduced jut last month.
Just because you don't know about it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  • Was going to wait for one of these because I thought they'd come out at around 40k but ended up picking up an xpower for 46k, glad I didn't wait.

    • How's the vibration treating you?

      • Doesn't have any

    • Nice! Would love to own one.

    • MG X Power is an hatch back so no comparison of SUV to hatchback

  • Hope this aggressive entry price and bundling from Geely drives a new round of discounting from BYD and the rest.

  • lol free wall charger still got to pay about 500 to 600 bucks to get a electrician to install it.

    • +1

      What an odd comment.

  • +1

    Bring over Li Auto L7

  • Does anyone know the servicing schedule and what’s done? I thought electric cars would have minimal servicing, if any. If I recall a mate of mine owns a Tesla Y and said he does not need to do any servicing?

    • There are still a lot of serviceable items in EV, not just the motor and batteries

      [took from above Tesla post]

Brake fluid health check every 4 years (replace if necessary)*. - 1/4 per year
Cabin air filter replacement every 2 years. -1/2 per year
Clean and lubricate brake calipers every year or 12,500 miles (20,000 km) if in an area where roads are salted during winter. - 1 per year
Rotate tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km) or if tread depth difference is 2/32 in (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever comes first. - 1 per year

So even on the so called minimum Tesla servicing, you end up with 2.75 above items per year, so on average probably 200-300 per year. Geely might be cheaper if these items are included in the servicing schedual.

      • +1

You don't need to do any of those things to keep your warranty with a Tesla.

Cabin filter replacement is a 3 minute job. It is a good idea to check your brakes, considering you may go 200k between brake pad/rotor replacement.

      • Tesla encourages you to do the Air filter yourself. So maybe a $200 service every 4 years.

  • is another chinese player?

  • Geeky is doing better than BYD soon.

    Thanks OP
I placed an order yesterday. Grab 1 of their 17 in stock at Mt Gravatt in QLD. They are going like hotcakes. I was told they hit the ground with 500 also units ready for delivery.
For the price and all the extra is hard to beat in the same price bracket.
Many options are available in the high 40’ range but not with the 360 cams, power tailgate, HUD, massage in both front chairs, moonroof, premium sound system, latest battery tech that could potentially outlive the car frame without replacement, also claimed to be very safe and an onboard 11k charger for better home charging from the wall socket.
Overall, the brand Geely sold it for me. They are big and are here to make themself known, surely they won't do it with a cheap and nasty box, at least not the launch car where their name is essentially hanging on it.
It was quite overwhelming on the test drive with all the feathers. Very spacious inside. Many things to like but a few things I have noticed are the indicator is on the left and, the gear stick is on the right (our normal indicator). The ADAS system is not quite there yet and seems to struggle to pick up the road edges and lane keeping, they did say they have made many changes to suit the Straya road conditions, hoping future software updates will improve this. Lastly, the indicator lever doesn't lock in place when selected, rather it returns to the centre after initiated, to cancel you have to push it in the opposite direction, I guess just something I have to get used to.
A slightly more range would be imo the perfect mid-range affordable electric SUV. Apparently, they offer a bigger battery option back in China. This will be my main daily so I won't have too much issue with the range, should be fine with a weekly plug-in.
My 5c worth opinions. It is my first full electric car ownership so dont grill me. If all finance goes well, I can drive it away soon. Very excited.
    Cheers.

Agree with all you've said. I'd put Geely along with BYD as one of the few "too big to fail" EV brands, it's going to be a bloodbath in the EV industry in the next few years, not many are going to survive like Xpeng's founder said.

      • -5

it's going to be a bloodbath

You know Trump said almost the same thing a year ago and was called Hitler (yawn) for saying it . If the media don't like you then saying the word 'bloodbath' means you are literally Hitler want to instigate a genocide or something…
This is why the media are not your friend.

        • +1

sorry mate I have no idea what you are referring to

          • +3

            @May4th: Just a malfunctioning bot.

          • -1

            @May4th:

sorry mate I have no idea what you are referring to

12 months ago Trump gave a speech where he said what you just said, that there will be an auto industry 'bloodbath'.
The media in their true style went full retard and claimed that the the use of the word 'bloodbath' was some sort of dog whistle by Trump to call up some imaginary bogey man army to go out and murder people (yep the media is that retarded)

I was merely using your example to show that 'bloodbath' is a word used by normal people to describe economic crashes and how retarded the media are for deliberately pretending that they didn't know that.

            • @1st-Amendment: I must have missed it, agree media is retarded in general whichever side

    • Did you test drive other EVs like the MG4, Chery or BYD to compare ?

      • +2

        I have not.
I know I should but I hate choices.
Once I start looking at other option I won’t make a decision at all. The Geely seem to pack lot of gucci stuff for a really competitively price.
I have drove the pole star as a rental for a week so kinda knew what so of thing to look for.
But most of all, I’m betting on Geely doing well for their first car. Manufacturer tend to make good introduction product then slowly cut cost to drive profit by sacrificing quality. If their brand take off, their price could also raise.
I’m putting all on red if you like.

        • +1

Fair enough, its good to be decisive in your decision making !
I just signed up for a MG4 - the drive was beautiful, I test drove the BYD and the Chery, I would of liked to drive the Geely it looks lovely but the service centre is a fair distance from me.

          • +1

@ELH05: I saw this post, look up a dealer.
Was only a 20 mins drive.
The dealer was barely set up.
The Mrs was keen, I’m keen so we signed the paper.
I’m quite skeptical about EV car for years now. My reasoning is the battery technology is not quite there yet imo.
This car seems to made that leap in term of longevity. The need to replace the battery every 10 years put me off. They now claim this battery retain life for longer. The big BYD is bringing the same tech later this year.
If it wasnt the launch offer, I would probably done more shopping and get something else.
            Thanks for sharing your journey.

            • @CheapNoNastyPlz: Do you know if it’s got an App to say turn the heating or cooling on before you get to the car ? Or to monitor charging for example ?

              • @ELH05: yes it does

              • @ELH05: Yes it does. Most car now have some kind of this feature, including non EV cars.

            • +4

@CheapNoNastyPlz: I ended up cancelling my MG and have got on board with the Geely !!!! I am beyond excited, I feel like this car has all the wants I need :) :)

              • @ELH05: Welcome onboard. It does have a few bells and whistles doesnt it.
If the battery is claimed what it is to be, the car value will hold a fair bit or at least you can keep it for a long time.
Hopefully they will fine tune the ADAS system as more car get on the road and they get more feedback data to improve it.

      • +2

have driven both. compared with BYD SL7, I'd say Geely has slightly nicer interior. SL7 drives better- Geely feels heavier despite being a much lighter vehicle. BYD is bigger and has a bit more inside esp in back seat. BYD is also less energy efficient if that matters, it's a very heavy car. out of the chinese EVs BYD has more badge credit if that matters to you

    • Have you got any freebies from the dealer on top?

      • They were flat out spinning with people turning for viewing and test drive.
I would say it was not the best service I got for signing a purchase. Due to high demand, bargaining with them was pretty much non-existent.
Someone said they got the floor mat added so I will try to get that also.

    • How come you got onboard 11K charger? They advertised it to be 7 KW charger?

      • Pretty sure they are referring to the onboard AC charger (built in the car), which is 11kw. Some cars, eg. older BYDs, only do 7kw. Some rare ones do 22kw.

Technically, the AC charger is built into the car, and what most people refer to as a "charger" (myself included) on the wall is technically an EVSE. Pretty sure that they did not receive an 11kw "charger" (EVSE).

        • You are correct.
I’m referring to the onboard 11kw charger.
The free home charger is 7kw.

          • @CheapNoNastyPlz: Thanks for confirming, Did you get a free installation of home charger?

            • @Amit Goyal: I don’t think so.
I signed the contract on the 1st day the deal was dropped.
The dealer has no idea of the contract details. They were following all the fine print from the Geely website.
              Was kinda hopeless of them.
I have to argue about the price as they charged me twice for the ORC.
Bargaining was non-existence. They would not add anything not listed on the website.
In their defence, I dont think they got much details either from Geely. The showroom was a bare floor, they were still detailing cars for display as I was signing the contract.
Getting the charger installation cost wave would be hard judging from last week.
Someone here mention they got it waved.
I might ring and ask. Don’t get 100% of what you don't ask.

  • Hmmm. This car has a price tag of $27,000 in China with heavy discount like free insurance and free premium speakers etc. I don’t consider $40,900 is a bargain.

    • +3

Understand but this is Ozbargain not Cnbargain. No point comparing products that are unattainable for us.

      • +2

yeah and BYD seagull is sub 10k usd..what relevance does that have to us?

      • +1

It’s simple. First mover loses. In an open market, if you don’t buy it for $40990, then seller drops to $36990. Now you know their bottom line is around $27000. So there’s a lot of rooms to play this game.

        • +2

are we just ignoring shipping, setting up new dealer networks, marketing, conversion to RHD and economy of scale, and a billion other factors that goes into exporting a car to an overseas market?

    • What warranty does the locals get?

  • +1

Simply switching off News Channels will make your car buying decision much easier. Thank you.

    • Simply switching off News Channels will make your car buying decision much easier. Thank you.

Some people are addicted to drama. They watch the News for the same reason people watch Soap Operas, Professional Wrestling, and 'Reality' TV. The contrived, constructed drama that keeps them on the hook so the people selling it to them can get rich from advertising to these fools.

      • +2

"some people are addicted to drama"

User replies: 8, SIXTY, 15, 14, ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE

        🤔

Projection that would give the IMAX a run for its money

        • Projection

This is not drama, unless you're self-identifying as a drama queen?

Keep trying though, as you know I'm here all day…

  • +2

test drove this the other day
Pros: well put together cabin, feature rich, a sunroof that opens. comfortable ride. massage seats are nice. spacious
Cons: touchscreen a bit finicky to operate, no android auto apple carplay. steering spongy. ADAS issues annoying.

great value with everything you can think of, if they can back it up with good aftercare and service I can see them sticking around

    • -1

How can you determine what the post service is like? I have not heard of any Chinese brands that even had a good warranty claim experience….

      • +1

not sure if you read it right..

if they can back it up with good aftercare and service I can see them sticking around

  • $1600 cheaper in ACT than NSW.

Worth getting it in ACT and driving it back? How does rego work from ACT to NSW?

    • you'd need an ACT address I imagine

      • +1

Only for garaging. Can be Belconnen McDonalds for all ACT Rego care

but when the ACT rego runs out you'll need to get a blue slip for it and pay for new NSW rego (technically you need to transfer within 3 months of the garaging address of the vehicle changing to NSW, but who does that?)

  • I drove this today. Nice car. Solid. Infotainment is beta at best needs a lot of work. I’m amazed they shipped it like this but yeah

    • I think the timing was not on their side. They wanted to beat the Kia EV3 (or matched) and BYD releasing the new Atto3. I know they are late to the party already but with the economy futures being quite unpredictable (most pointing toward crashing), they may have to rush this launch or potentially screw up the whole branding. It's kind of like other gaming avoiding the new GTA release.
But yes, the infotainment and Adas need a lot of work. The lack of buttons doesn't help, but this is the direction most car manufacturers are heading in.

      • agreed. btw regarding buttons its even worse, there is like 10+ unlabelled and configurable buttons on the steering wheel. very annoying, hard to find things like cruise control.

    • +1

yes probably biggest drawback, but with apple carplay due in july it will negate some of it and others hopefully with OtA updates. that and the annoying icecream truck chime

  • Anyone able to get any good offers from the dealer on top of these offers?

    • direct models doesn't allow for much dealer discretion. whether there's any more promos/discounts is anyone's guess

      • I have booked one and only offered floor mats. So want to check if anyone else able to get better offers.

        • You get floor mats standard

  • Do they offer any other freebies

    • +1

But wait!! There's more! Free set of steak knives.

  • +1

Home charger comes with the installation and dealer has confirmed this.

    • +1

Really ?? Which dealer confirmed this please

    • +2
      1. Free EV Home Charger Offer
Includes one (1) Starcharge Artemis Basic (7kW) single-phase wall charger.
Installation costs are not included and are the responsibility of the customer.
  • Not many insurance options for this car. What insurance options everyone going for?

    • NRMA for me came to about 1.8k which is reasonable for EV

    • The fact that Geely is not available in the drop down for most insurers concerns me a bit. Had a look at one at the Mt Gravatt dealership. Guy there was pushing the inspire pretty hard. Honestly I wasn't a fan of the sunroof (lot of small flimsy expectedly unobtainable parts) and was more interested in the complete. Also I know the $4000 buys alot of features, but its also a 10% saving if you dont want all of those features. Though missing out on the power tailgate and the higher suspension would be a downer. Don't love the high centre console configuration, found it a bit claustrophobic. The car does seem very nice though. Im sure it would be a nice runabout. I think ill wait and see how these new Chinese brands go first before jumping in.

      • +1

NRMA does, it's a week from release so not unusual for a lag. $4k for a full opening sunroof alone without the other features is not a bad deal across other makes. personally I feel it's worthwhile paying the extra but YMMV.

        • Yeah, pretty sure it's common with any newly released car - we had the same thing (not being able to select the car) when we were buying our car.

        • The Kia EV3 has only just been scheduled to enter the showrooms in late march. and its in the AAMI drop down… And for me insurance alot less than $1800 a year for the Standard range Air ($821). Its also got apple carplay and android auto. If they are missing these things that sit on the surface what else is missing that we don't know about right now.
