FREE $50 for Opening CBA GoalSaver Account

3161

Just got some physical spam today, showing that the recent trend of banks giving us free money is still well and alive.

Basically open a GoalSaver account, leave it empty (because their interest rate is pathetic) until just before 11.59pm AEDST on 26/07/2013, transfer $200 into it, then transfer it out the next day and wait patiently for $50 to be credited to your account by 19/08/2013, then close the account, ready to take advantage of the next round of free money!

Copy pasta of full terms and conditions on the website:

*Rate includes a variable bonus interest rate of 3.65% p.a. above the standard variable interest rate of 0.75% p.a., which is paid on account balances up to and including $100,000 if the closing balance on the last day of a calendar month is at least $200 higher (excluding interest earned) than the opening balance on the first day of the same month, with no more than one (1) withdrawal in the same period. The standard variable rate of 0.75% p.a. will apply on any portion of the balance over $100,000. The above rates are current as at 21.05.13 but are subject to change at the Bank's discretion. A maximum of two (2) GoalSaver accounts per customer can be opened.

^Offer only applies to customers who open a new GoalSaver account by 28/06/2013, deposit $200 or more into their new GoalSaver Account by 11.59pm AEDST on 26/07/2013 and retain a balance of at least $200 in their new GoalSaver account as at 11.59pm AEDST on 26/07/2013. You will be ineligible for the $50 offer if your account is closed, transferred or in default at any time prior to the $50 being credited to your account. $50 will be credited to your account by 19/08/2013. A maximum of two (2) GoalSaver accounts per customer can be opened. A limit of one (1) $50 credit per customer.

        • from when you raised your concern to CBA…

        • +1

Awesome thanks. I let them know they havent yet responded and that I'm counting the days.

  • I'm still waiting for them to respond.

Also interestingly I didn't get my 'bonus interest' from last month. Did that happen with anyone else?

    • how many withdrawals did you make in the month?

      • None. Hell, I've never even made a single withdrawal on that account.

        • "increase your balance by at least $200 a month"

If you have made no withdrawal during the month you also need to make deposit(s) totalling $200 too.

If are eligible for the bonus interest and haven't received it contact CBA to fix the problem.

        • Well that explains why I didn't get the bonus interest. Thanks.

I did not receive my $50 and wrote a email to them via netbank two days ago. This is part of the response I received - "I am very sorry that I have not been in contact with you with an update as yet.
This has been escalated to the highest level and we are endeavouring to get an answer in regards to this as soon as possible. As soon as this investigation has been completed I will be in touch with you.
Thank you for your continued patience with this."
So I guess I will wait for their investigation.

    • Basically what I got too. They're freaking slow apparently.

    • stay patient and polite :)

    • Success. Here is their response "I am happy to say that you will soon be receiving the $50 bonus; I have received confirmation of this this morning.

As you opened it on the 23/05/2013 and met the eligibilty requirements before the Terms and Conditions change on the 24/03/2013 your payment will be hounored overnight".
So worth pursuing if you opened it in time. good luck.

Hey hey, finally got a response and they said:
"I am happy to say that you will soon be receiving the$50 bonus; I have received confirmation of this this morning".

    Awesome.

    • I assume you applied before the change of T&C? I got a no because I was a day late. They admitted there was a change of T&C, the cut-off date was 23rd. So for those applied before that date and haven't received the $50, just be persistent! I did apply online in time, but it wouldn't accept my ID check and had to go into a branch. What a bummer!

    Woohoo :D

"I am happy to report that you will soon be receiving the $50 bonus. I have received confirmation of this today. Please allow 2-3 business days for this to be processed.

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my response. I hope you have a great weekend.

    Kind regards,

  • Just got mine woot.

    yeah!!!!

Well, it took two phone calls and an online enquiry, but I'm now told that I'll be receiving my bonus

    • Similar experience.

  • Opened on the 23rd, didn't get the $50. Contact via netbank a couple of days ago and received money the next day!

  • I opened my account before the 9th of June, and made a large deposit on the 9th of June and did the $200 or more as required but was sent an email from their "specialist" stating that as I opened the account after the conditions changed I am intelligible….. is the 9th of June too late???

    • T's and C's changed 23rd May.

  • Still waiting to hear back about mine, will try again in a little while and then hit up the ombudsman once it passes the 45 day mark

    • When did you open your account?

      • On the 23rd. I have heard back from someone confirming that I opened the account in time, but they said they were talking to their manager or someone and would get back to me as soon as they completed their investigation or something, similar to a person else earlier in the thread.

        Nearly one month now though.

        • complain to FOS.org.au - and you get $50 in less than a week…

        • You need to speak to customer relations at the bank first.

        • send another polite online query saying you haven't received a response. apparently before 24 may you can get the bonus.

        • Talonparty did speak to customer relations at the bank.

Normally, they have 45 days to resolve the matter but if it is just a simple inquiry you don't really need to wait full 45 days.

        • No I just used the online communications through netbank. I will send another email this afternoon I think.

          Thanks for the advice.

  • I opened mine around the 9th of June, does this mean I miss out or should I fight it?

  • Finally got mine, took a few weeks of contact but it worked ok

  • Mine finally came through today too. :)

  • Closing the account just took a quick phone call.

I'm kind of confused. I opened my account according to the original T&C stating that the account had to be opened by around June 28. My account was opened around June 9 and money was deposited as per the T&C.

Should I still be perusing the matter with Commonwealth? Is it still possible to get the $50?

I clicked on the banner add on their site to get to the deal, I wasn't invited as such…

    • You should definitely try, whats the worst that can happen? Send them a message via netbank. As you can see I applied at the absolute deadline which was the 23rd, before their stealth edit of the terms and conditions. They honoured mine after some badgering.

    • i applyed my account before 28/06/2013 as well, i go to the bank and ask them today, the lady ring net-bank, and she tell me there is no such promotion during June this year. WHAT THE. I tell her that i can prove there r such promotion if i can use their internet in their branch. but i can not access internet there. i tell her that i heard that promotion from ozbargain, she say that is ozbargain is 3rd party which could make a mistake.

      • tell her that you would like to try FOS.org.au
It is is also a 3rd party and can make mistake!
