FREE $50 for Opening CBA GoalSaver Account

Just got some physical spam today, showing that the recent trend of banks giving us free money is still well and alive.

Basically open a GoalSaver account, leave it empty (because their interest rate is pathetic) until just before 11.59pm AEDST on 26/07/2013, transfer $200 into it, then transfer it out the next day and wait patiently for $50 to be credited to your account by 19/08/2013, then close the account, ready to take advantage of the next round of free money!

*Rate includes a variable bonus interest rate of 3.65% p.a. above the standard variable interest rate of 0.75% p.a., which is paid on account balances up to and including $100,000 if the closing balance on the last day of a calendar month is at least $200 higher (excluding interest earned) than the opening balance on the first day of the same month, with no more than one (1) withdrawal in the same period. The standard variable rate of 0.75% p.a. will apply on any portion of the balance over $100,000. The above rates are current as at 21.05.13 but are subject to change at the Bank's discretion. A maximum of two (2) GoalSaver accounts per customer can be opened.

  • Nothing has shown up in my account yet, I applied through their weblink via netbank way before they updated the T&C.

    "eligible customers"… meaning those who set an account up before they modified the terms and conditions?? Or those who received the promo email directly from Commbank??

      I think we know which CBA will pay. For the rest of us who were not emailed, but opened before the T&C changed it will probably depend on how our particular case is stonewalled/escalated by customer service.

      I for one pity anyone (including my bank manager) that tries to tell me I don't qualify for the original T&C simply because they changed them after I opened my account. I'm a nightmare to deal with when stuffed around - measured and calm but unwavering in purpose.

      A bit like Terminator 2, if he could be bought off with $50.

    We all can hit them hard because change of Ts & Cs is not going to save CBA. If they are not honouring the bonus, they are committing marketing misconduct and all of us can lodge a compliant with ASIC and their might a be regulatory enquiry into CBA promotions.

    In addition, if you choose to go to FOS, CBA will have to pay $150 for each complaint lodged with CBA and CBA must pay this amount as soon as the complaint is escalted to FOS. As such, CBA will try their level best to avoid FOS complaints.

    I opened the account 22-5-2013, this was my second goalsaver account I opened, both were active at the same time.

    Does this mean you can transfer money in and out before 26/7? I used it a few times, withdrew, then deposited $200 on the 22nd and withdrew it again on the 29th. Guess I'll have to wait a while

    • I didn't touch mine after I deposited money into it and I still didn't get the $50 bonus today. Didn't even get the 'bonus interest' for this month either.

      Guess I'll find out what's going on next week.

    Bad Experience:

    CBA refused to give my bonus. I advised them politely that they will breach their Tc&Cs and this conduct will end up in a complaint.

    Good News:

    $50 was paid within 12 hours :)

          Log into netbanking and click contact us which is last option on the bottom right tab. On the next screen click netbank.

          A new window will open will your details prefilled. Just type in the message and send.

          You should receive a reply within 2 business days.

    I applied pre T&C change and I sent them an email as I haven't received my $50. This is what they said:

    in relation to your enquiry, I can confirm that group of customers has been offered an exclusive $50 bonus if they apply for the GoalSaver account by 28 June 2013 and deposit $200 and maintain this balance by 26 July.

    Please be aware that only selected customers were offered this bonus offer.

      I sent them an email saying they changed the T&C after I applied and this is their response

      I certainly DID apply before they changed their T&C. What a horrible customer service officer; I provided the screenshot as proof, asked CSO where exactly it says 'for selected customers only' but CSO ignores it totally to avoid solving problems.

    I had found this deal from ozbargain, so received no email.

    I applied before the T&C change, had plenty of money in there before the cut off date and did not withdraw any either. This was my second goalsaver.

    Can anyone please send me a screenshot of the original T&C. After a lot of argument the commbank customer service do not want to credit my account so I have been asked to provide proof of the original promotion in a branch. Really poor service.

  • Nothing here yet, they said they were looking into it but no response since the 19th. Grrr.

  • I've been to'ing and fro'ing with a rep via contact form, and they are denying it completely, and I've told them I will be going to the ombudsmen and to provide me with a case number that I've got opened with communication. Commbank are a bunch of jokers, seriously.
