Edit: can you recharge after 30 days ?

    • you can. but its $39 and no bonus 5gigs

  • ordered one. Going to see if this or aldi unlimited is better for thl w8

  • does it allow tethering?

    • It should be work, I used it last year at farm, works very well.

  • Will this work in a Telstra device?

    • +3

Dodo is on the Optus network.

  • 10GB for $9 - Bought!

  • -3

why do people want this? don't you already have mobile plans with data or wifi? surely 10gb is too much?

    • More importantly; why are SIMs that are really good value for the first month even a thing? Surely nobody plan hops from month to month… and international visitors aren't all that common

      • +4

Plan hopping - monthly! (for best data deal)

      • +3

Many people change plans regularly. That is the beauty of pre-paid.

    • +12

Because this is OzBargain not OzRational, and this Sir is a bargain!

    • Some people put this sort of deal on a spare phone, so no plan hopping.

  • Not valid for current dodo customers , darmn

  • i think you get $10 free when you signup? Could get this deal for free?

  • finished

    • Are you sure? I just bought and says 6 days still left

      • nm, found the culprit, noscript wasn't allowing groupon so was just sending me to the next deal, thanks

  • +1

Sorry if I'm missing something, but how much is it after the first month?

  • +4

Thanks, moving house shortly - this should tide me over for the dreaded ADSL downtime.

  • Consumers who already have four or more existing pre-paid mobile services (including mobile wireless broadband) will be unable to activate the service

    why?

    • There may be a question during the activation process that you are 'obliged' to answer accurately about how many active sims you have, but this '4' business is just Dodo 'trying' to dissuade plan hoppers.

Legally, you don't risk getting into any legal strife as long as you don't have any more than 5 still active sims.
Supposedly, if want to have any more that (and not have the potential flag against your name as a possible drug dealer/terrorist), you may be required to fill out some form and send it somewhere along with your bona fides.
Whether that, to any significant degree, is enforced, I have no idea.

Product will be shipped to you in approx. 3 weeks

    • Just rang them too - bit sad. oh well
Also rang dodo and they wont do it direct sadly (just about to move house and hoped it would fill the gap)

  • Can this be used on a mobile tablet, like Nexus 7 3G?

    • +1

Yes, but just be aware that unless things have changed since I tried one of these 'magic' sim deals, Dodo throttle data speed ruthlessly.
I had a Virgin sim active at the time (also throttled but not quite as bad as Dodo) and an active Amaysim, which was about two times faster than Virgin, but at least three times faster than Dodo.

What I'm basically saying, is that irrespective of how good the deal looks, at least as far as download speeds are concerned, expect to be disappointed. I suppose you might be lucky, but when I was using the Dodo sim anything video related just wasn't worth the grief.

      • wow, is it really that bad? just bought one.

        • I thought the Virgin sim experience was bad (and it was), but beyond standard webpages, using the Dodo sim was like trying to surf the internet on back of a dead bird…

        • Extinct flightless bird?

        • You can't have seen the ads. It lives, flies - and dances…

  • Is this $39.90 after the first month ?

    • It was and probably still is.
Incidentally, vandwi, if your wondering how Virgin (owned by Optus), and Dodo, throttle their data speeds - it's because they have their own separate APN's.
Most (all?) other Optus 'Open Network' resellers just let you use any of the several regular Optus APN's - even when they specify that you use just one.

      • thanks for the info Tas, will update here once the pack arrived.

  • I noticed someone posted dodo is with Optus, my iphone 5 is with Optus, does this mean dodo will work?

    • Frequency-wise, yes, but as long as your phone remains locked to Optus, no dice.

  • +2

I've never had a positive experience with Dodo…starting from the 3G usb stick I bought when 3G was all the rage….it got throttled so badly that i gave up on using it…And, for some stoopid reason, I still get calls from Dodo (Phillipines call centre) telling me that they "have a special deal for me"…Please stop calling me!

Also, yes..$9 sounds cheap..but what about 30 days after? you have to buy credit as normal? thanks, but no thanks…

    Don't say i didn't warn u guys…

    • You just reminded me - I still keep finding 'missed' calls on my old (backup) phone. I google the numbers and regularly find links to forum posts about Dodo call center harassment.
I don't know if some of the calls come directly from the Philippines, but the ones I get come via an unblocked Sydney or Melbourne number. Unblocked so people are more inclined to answer, presumably.

  • I am using DODO myself and connectivity is overall good. Another good thing about DODO is guys that it costs you $5 for 1GB per month after initial month:)

  • +1

Wow, this sounds a good deal.
But, the drawback is Groupon (not a big fans of them).

  • I got a relo coming over this sunday, perfect timing!

    • +3

board games for 3 weeks till the sim card arrives then?

      • Yeah didnt read the fine print, almost went through with the order.

  • Starter pack must be activated within 30 days of receipt

so no stockpiling - do they normally have such short validity periods?

  • Product will be shipped to you in approx. 3 weeks

Does that mean shipping AFTER 3 weeks??

    • Oh, please…

  • This is really a $40 10gig plan.
The 1month honeymoon is just that.

I think we are all used to sub $20 deals, or $30 kogan unlimted talk.

    • +1

It's a $40 5GB plan. You don't get the extra 5 gigs after the first month.

  • +1

    Few things

    • Tethering is not available for iPhone (as per their website)

    • Data increment is in 1 MB

    • International calls are cheap to few destinations like (China 3c, India 2c, Israel Land-line 3c)

    • Poor customer service in terms of resolving issues but connectivity to get to customer support is fast (unlike other providers which might take 15-20 mins)

    • $100 for 365 days standard Sim recharge (credit can be used to buy add-on like $5 - 1GB data with 30 days expiry)

Good deal for those who change their service provider every month or have spare phone.

    +1

  • Starter pack must be activated within 30 days of receipt

    no thanks!

    • so what does this mean?

30days since the order on groupon

or 30days from when it arrives on your door step?

  • Just to warn you, my wife is a lawyer, she told me that there are more complains against dodo than any other company, I wouldn't take the chance.

    • Does she work for Dodo?

  • I bought a couple this time last year http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71564 had no problems.

    • +1

      when you brought a couple
how did you activate one after the other?

did you use it in consecutive months?

      • +1

I used them in a modem for the data, i don't think they had the 30 day activation rule last time or it was not enforced. only bought 1 this time just in case.

        • ok thanks

i just purchased one as well

going to use it in a tab

  • has anyone got theirs yet

    • Waiting, waiting… nothing in the post yet

      • As per website: Product will be shipped to you in approx. 3 weeks.

So I'd pack up the deckchair and stop staking out the post box until then.

        • 2 1/2 weeks, waiting waiting

  • +2

Received mine this morning. Back says expiry June 2014. On the phone with them now trying to find the latest date I can activate.

    • Thanks mate
Please post back also need to know latest activation date

    • Yeah also got mine today and it says expiry June 2014

    • whats the latest date you can activate?

      • i am guessing June 2014, still havent activated mine

  • got mine today, will activate later and see how it is

  • Received mine yesterday
It dont allow tethering in my iPhone and can't use in my modem neither.
Customer service say because its prepaid so don't support it.

    • You must be doing something wrong.

  • also got mine today

    activation date says June 2014

  • Where does it say expiry?

    • nm, on the back of the package.. where else..

  • If anyone trying to access apn for nexus7
    I used apn "yesinternet"
Cause the dodo one didn't work for me

Took me hours to figure this out

    So heads up

    • If Dodo have decided to let people access data via some of the regular Optus APN's, instead of their own wretched one, consider that a blessing.

  • Does anyone know if the activate within 30 days of receival fine print is enforced? I had it in mind that there was such a clause but the 2014 expiry date on the package led me to put it aside until next month. I could activate and use the data if it really has to be activated.

    • I'm confused. Why wouldn't you want your dodo to hatch immediately?

  • Confucius isn't confused. Confucius say…"All sims themselves tend to have long expiry dates. Specific offers relating to the activation of sims do not."

  • Just activated today! Rang Dodo. Unlimited Talk & Text, balance expires in 30d, 100min international, etc.
Have not been allocated bonus 5GB yet. Will ring if not added, but probably won't use it.

    • I activated a few days ago as well and only got 5gb

      • Interesting! As pack we bought states 10GB, should be able to fix with a call to Dodo.

        • Yeah will try that.. think though the extra 5gb had to be activated within 30 days of receipt of package.. doesn't hurt to try! thx

  • Tethering between Androids or Desktop at OK speeds. Great deal!

    • Yep works great using my Galaxy tab as a hotspot with iphone

  • Just activated via web. Online registration process confirmed the 10GB of data.

In any case, the 5GB bonus data is for activation "within 30 days of receipt" so I presume you could leave it (unloved) in the letterbox until later in the year when you need it.

Set APN to yesinternet as the default settings in the wireless router didn't work (internet) and the manual setup choosing Dodo wanted to use dodolns1 or such..again…epic fail.

    Speed; 5GB down, 1.1GB up.

    Bargain!

    • correction….APN: internet (not yesinternet). The Dodo one didn't seem to work.

and the biggie! Speed down is 5 Mbps down / 1 Mbps up (not 5 GB down etc., although that'd be nice).

  • Darn… the love lasted about 2 hours.

SIM has completely died. Firstly, net started dropping out every 50 minutes or so.

And now the SIM is not recognised in any device.

Never ever had a dead SIM before. I guess it happens.

Hoping I can get DODO to swap over to a $2 SIM or such.
