    Great mouse!

For sure. I have the MW3 branded one and can't fault it. Plays great with BF3 :)

I have only a single complaint. My MW3 version is only a year old and the G9x logo on it is starting to wear off. Would been a good thing if the MW3 logo did that too… :(

The last time I used a mouse to play a game (excluding Solitaire, minesweeper etc) was Tie Fighter on the PC about 15 years ago. I am pretty sure it had a ball I had to clean after every few missions.

    • +7

so how is the gaming experience with trackpads?

    • So what do you have when you have a mouse ball in each hand…

  • +2

lol i thought its $7, why the 5 is so small

  • It looks kinda ugly tbh, how does it feel though?

I have an MX518, is this better comfort wise?

    • I would say no. I had a G5 (almost identical to the MX518) and then got a G9. The G9 is a completely different shape and I just couldn't use it properly as it always felt weird as it's shorter and wider. I ended up getting rid of it and got the G500 mouse which was the greatest mouse I have ever used. It died yesterday. GOD DAMN THIS DEAL!!! I got a G700 mouse instead (MSY were sold out of the G500) for $77 which is pretty good.

      • G9 is a better 'pro gaming' mouse. I say that because you're 'supposed' to play with a 'claw grip' on your mouse, and short/wide mice are better suited to this.

Note my enthusiastic use of scare quotes, because I hate claw-grip gaming, although the G9 is a fairly well performing mouse.

      • On the other hand, the G9 suits me more comfort wise. Personally I find it to be a very comfortable mouse.

      • +1

I bought the G500 today for $68 at ebgames, pretty good price, and I love it.

    • I also used to use the mx518 and took a week to get used to this g9x… But I love the feel now and probably won't go back to the fat mouse

      • +1

Using the G9x at work and mx518 at home. Jeez really hard to get switch between the two. Entirely different grip styles. If my G9x played well with BF3, I'd use it as my primary mouse, sadly there's tons of quirks that makes it practically useless (some issues with the setpoint driver and button binding).

    ahhh. Heck…

    STRAYA!!!

  • How big is it? I always find the 'normal' mice to be too small for my hand which ends up being uncomfortable after a while.

these might help.. m310 vs g9x vs mx518

Very small and uncomfortable if you are a "palm" gripper. I've had a G9x, a G500 and a "Steelseries Sensei Raw" recently, and the Sensei is the largest and most comfortable of the three.

      • +1

I've always claw-gripped my mice and this is one of the most comfortable. It's short and the front buttons are set quite low so your fingers can comfortably arch over it with ample space. So yes, I can imagine it being very uncomfortable for palm-grippers. My only complaint is that the side buttons are mushy as hell because the mouse has a 'shell' over the base and there's another interface over the side buttons.

        • That is true. Sold the G9x to my mate who prefers claw-gripping. He loves it.

My complaint is that the scroll click button is one of the worst I've experienced - regardless of the mouse's size. Even worse than the G500 (which is similarly bad).

    Love this mouse.

Used by a lot of Korean Starcraft pro gamers as well.

    • I use it for SC2, its great!

  • Should be good for Dota2 then

  • Sweet. I've been using my (non x) for about 5 years now, has none of the original finish left and the scroll wheel is worn down to the bare metal. 3rd pair of replacement feet..time for a new one

    • Where did you get the replacement feet? My work mouse needs new slidey pads.

      • I just got some adhesive teflon tape, and cut to shape

It's super slick and works well

  • I need a casual mouse, any recommendations? I have an Apple Wired Keyboard and Ubuntu.

    • Personally I use a G9 for desktop use as well. If price isn't an issue, I think this is as good a mouse as any for desktop use. The ability to swap between smooth scrolling and 'click' style scrolling on the wheel is a killer feature which makes the mouse great for desktop use, while also being good for games.

  • I dont know how but id recommend trying this somehow before you buy it.

I got one a while back and had to get rid of it as it wasnt comfortable for my grip with any of its overlays.

  • From OzB, I got the TRON mouse which was too small and didn't grip, and the Logitech G600 ($50 from DS) had far too many buttons that was too small for gaming. No regrets with the G9X.

  • The only defect I can find with this mouse is that it emits a high pitch noise if you hold it up to your ear! Other wise it is a great mouse and very customisable.

    Logitech G9x - Avago ADNS-9500 (Laser sensor)

These mouse sensors have acceleration (~5-10%)

    Inconsistent tracking:

Mouse Sensor Benchmark - Figure 1

A mouse with good tracking should have a nice diagonal line with the pixels closely knit together until it reaches its perfect control speed. A good example is the deathadder. If you look closely, you can see the lines of the X8,G9x and mamba are not as smooth, the gaps between the pixels are also larger. This indicates that it is less consistent in its tracking.

Probably one of the more popular laser mice in the market at the moment (article published in 2011) - the Steelseries Xai which uses the Avago ADNS S9500 sensor. It has mouse acceleration present in the sensor itself EVEN at very low speeds which cannot be fixed from mouse fix (amount of acceleration varies between different mousepads). It has both positive and negative mouse acceleration as you can see from the graph.

Mouse Sensor Benchmark - Figure 2

Other popular mice that uses the same sensor and might be suffering from the same issue is the G500/G9x/G700

If you are considering purchasing this mouse and find this mouse suitable for your needs / don't mind these flaws, get it (or even stock up) while you still can as they are now discontinued

    • whats the new version of the g9x?

      • I don't think there is one yet… Can't see anything that resembles a G9/G9x in design to call it a replacement, the G500s/G700s is a completely different feel.

      • Not at the moment. Only G400s, G500s, G700s are the newest. But soon :)

      • There is no successor, they discontinued the line altogether it seems. :(

Which is why this is probably still worth grabbing.

        • I'd be surprised if Logitech doesn't release a replacement in the near future. The G9/G9x had a very good run.

  • If I got this, I wonder how hard it would be to adapt from a generic mouse…

  • Best mouse I've ever had.. I own a G9, G9x and G9x MW… Just in case the other two die ;)

  • Are the MW3 ones still selling? If so,how much do they go fo?

  • Picked up the standard one from Macquarie this morning. They had one left in stock at the time.
