Great deal on amazon for one day only! the fantastic Roku LT streaming player (720p)

I used amazon currency converter and it worked out to be AUD 53.87 but you can just let them charge in USD if you want.

All you will need is a travel power adapter when it arrives. read the tutorials on whirlpool to see what you need to do like unblockus DNS or Unotelly etc.

The 1080p model has 15% off also

    +1 for Roku!

  • Does this work just as a media player with plugging in a usb hdd and just play videos from it?

    • No, there is no USB port. This is purely a wireless streaming player.

You can use it to stream local network media videos with PLEX though. PLEX is awesome.

  • Does anyone have a link to easily set these up for Australia. Showing DNS, VPN and Netflix settings

    • easy peasy …http://www.unblock-us.com/how-to-set-up/

Will using PLEX with this allow transcoding and playing of 10-bit h264? Any point if I already have a wdtv live?

    • Not sure all of the features of the wdtv live… But the plex app only streams content. I believe the Lt is limited to 720P though. However it will play pretty much anything your server can play. (I've yet to stumbled across anything it couldn't play)

Can anyone let me know the benefits of using this and plex rather than just having my vids in a share and using my android box?

    • +1

Plex works in a server / client config.. Do if you have a plex server running on windows/Mac/Linux… It acts as you central store. Everything else just streams content from there. For me the biggest advantage of this is the server does transcoding.. So no more worrying about codecs and crap. Plus you can have as many clients connecting at the the same time: ( TV + laptop + tablet) all playing content from the plex server.

Plus the ui of plex is gorgeous, much faster and easier to navigate.. Keeps your spot across multiple clients (so you can pause play resume from any device)..
And also sync "watched" so you know exactly what episodes / movies you've watched or are upto .

    • You can use it to watch over 700 roku channels if you set it up right.
But bear in mind that this does not have ethernet port,it only uses wifi.. buffering will occur if you have crap internet.
I have Roku 3 and love it,so much content to watch..head over to Whirlpool forum and there are pages dedicated to the roku.

      • have you got a guide you could share by chance?

  • +1

Amazon also has the Roku 3 is also on sale, from $99.99 all the way down to $99. BARGAIN! :P

    • shut up and take my money

  • just fyi, if u have a ps3 sitting at home, it can do what Roku does, e.g netflix, youtube, and streaming ur local media collection.

    • Sure it can but in households with more than 1 TV, the Roku is excellent.

  • Anyone know what sort of power plug this uses? Is it proprietary or is it something like a 'figure 8' I can swap out?

    • it comes with us plug …i just connect this adapter off ebay …

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/US-USA-EU-to-AUS-AC-Power-Travel-…

      it takes 100-240v

      • i assumed it would but I'm asking about the other end of the plug? Is it something easily replaceable? Prefer to not use adapters if possible.

Eg my playstation uses a figure 8 cable so I could import a Euro version and by replacing the power cable I can use an Australian figure 8 instead. No need for an adapter.
