  • Hi,

First post and all that, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what this tastes like in comparison to Horleys/ON?

    • Hi,

We have had regular feedback from our customers that our banana is the one of the best tasting banana's they have had.

The chocolate would be described as having Milo with milk - when we mix it with water that is.

      I hope that helps

Would need samples before offering this product. It's more expensive then a majority of proteins available to the Australian Market.

        • How so? Looks comparable to protein direct & bulk nutrients online. Remember this is WPI (which is probably overkill to be honest). Only thing I don't know is the taste of this, especially if ordering a 3kg bottle. Contemplating since finishing up my tub, rep - can you chuck in a mixing bottle?

        • +1

          Hi,

Would love to chuck in a mixing bottle, unfortunately we haven't gotten to that stage of getting one yet.

  • what is the fat burning part of this? I also can't find any reviews online, and would like to know other people's opinions before buying.

    • Hi,

The fat burning blend we formulate our products with include

Green Tea, L-carnitine and Hydroxy Citric Acid.

    • I would hazard a guess the fat burning part is the green tea ingredient.

It does have a good protein %

I agree with exc3113nce though, other proteins available which seem better value, just search through previous ozbargain deals.

      Oops beaten, but yeah.

      • I agree with you James - however for fonterra NZ whey protein/ packaging that won't break during shipping, I don't think you can get a better price.

Some other manufacturers (the cheaper brands) use Chinese imported protein to keep costs down. Nothing against China, but unfortunately you're not really giving the best to your body.

Word of advice is to ask where the source has come from before purchasing :)

        • Rep all protein powder companies source whey from cheese manufacturers, AFAIK. Even the most expensive/reputable brands cannot exercise control over the manufacture of what is essentially a by-product of the cheese-making process.

So how much actual science sits behind quality claims, when many aussie retailers do wpi at $27-$30/kg all year round?

        • I didn't know your protein was by Fonterra in NZ - that adds value to me, might be worth mentioning somewhere that the protein is from NZ - NZ protein much better quality in my experience.

I thought the place I get mine from also sourced it from NZ, however checking the website I can't find mention of it anymore. Tried to call them and got a message bank service. Hmm….

Do you sell any 100% WPI without the green tea? (ie not the fusion blend WPI/WPC)

        • Hi,

We decided not to advertise it as NZ Fonterra until we get approval by them to advertise it up on our website.

Unfortunately at this stage we're just doing the WPI/fat burning blends.

          Thanks,

          Please, name and shame.
If it's true, it's not defamation since it's factual :)
I'm using ON Gold Standard, I don't think they'll use Chinese imported protein.

        • +1

Hey jamestownfx, just bear in mind that quality is determined by the technology used in the manufacture - so is by company, not region.

So not all NZ cheese manufacturers will necessarily be the same, nor american etc.

        • Perhaps even just say it is from NZ for now is still good.

I gave a + for answering questions, sourcing from NZ, high protein %, and at now $95 is good value imo.

          Thanks.

        • Hi,

Sorry this post wasn't meant to name and shame anyone, as there is nothing wrong with using Chinese imported protein. It was purely to give the consumer further insight and question where the protein might have come from.

Having looked around at manufacturers we were able to find a Chinese supplier who could distribute WPI at $7 per kilo/per tonne. Great profit margins but it was too risky for quality.

Ah okay. I've got a chinese background and I would avoid Made-in-China foods where alternatives are available :)
Chinese manufacturers and people in general are pretty cut-throat with profits. Cutting corners where legally possible, still cutting corners behind closed doors where (illegally but physically) possible.
There's a reason why a market exists for those in China/HongKong to buy milk powder from Australia at a premium than the ones produced locally there.

    Not a bargain to me.

Source: body building for 3 years now.

Might be useful to others, and the retailer if you could state why it's not a bargain and possibly a link to better purchases…

        venomprotein.com.au — 4KG Flavoured WPI, use code: BBB - $105 delivered.

        • Terrific, thanks

8 flavours, can separate into 1kg + free shaker

        • Geez, dude. You should be posting this as a bargain. So this tastes good and gives you results?

        • +1

It has already been posted and is still an ongoing deal

        • Can vouch for Venom, have used around 8 kilos of the WPI so far. Good specs, good prices (there's always a $20 voucher floating around online), free shaker. Some of the flavours aren't so good (stay away from Cookies & Cream imo) but you can also buy a sample pack to try them out.

Edit: that said, this deal doesn't seem too bad for what it is

        • +2

Eating a clean diet will give you the best results, the after workout shake is only 1 small component of that.

You can get Optimum Nutrition delivered from iherb.com, au.bodybuilding.com or vitacost for a little bit more (think $110-$130 for the equivalent) and there are local alternatives like Maxs Super Whey 4kg for $120 delivered.

The OP's product does have a remarkably high protein percentage (93% whereas most have 75-85%). However brands in this field have been known to fudge the numbers, so it's hard to know if it's legit or not (whereas Optimum Nutrition is pretty reliable).

It's not neg worthy but it isn't pos worthy either.

    • +1

      Hey guys,

Please read the modification above. Unfortunately with the dollar against us this is the best we can do. We've heard clear that $100 was probably boarder line. We hope 5% off sweetens the deal for OB buyers.

      • Definitely an improvement and kudos for doing it.

I'm still not convinced it's better than other prices going around though (see AnthaxXx above).

        • Hi Tantryl,

No worries at all. Unforunately these are the margins we work on. We hope this deal may be useful to someone else :)

    • $30USD for 2lb (909g) of ON Gold Standard delivered is the norm for VC. There are ways to get it even cheaper, but $30USD is pretty easy to do.
Also note the AUD is weakening against USD (takes costs up slightly), + the 10% GST, so this post is probably one of the cheapest.. in Australia that is.

      • Personally, I'm a big fan of ON Gold standard myself. It is worth noting though that ON is a blend of WPI/WPC

      • +1

        The maths for people:

        3 / .909 ~ 3.3 (you'd have to buy 3.3 2lb tubs to be equivalent of this deal)
        $30USD x 3.3 = $99USD
        $99USD ~ $104AUD

That said, even using a 12% off coupon VC is charging $34.62USD for a 2lb tub including shipping. Which would mean an equivalent of $120 AUD.

        • edit: nevermind

  • +1

I'd pay this price if I knew what it tasted like. That is one of my main concerns when switching powders. I'm currently using GNC branded powder, which is well known to be overpriced, because I know the taste and won't shudder when I drink it 3 times a day. I'm sure I'm not the only one who factors taste over price.

Rep - If you can offer a free sample somehow without being raped by us ozbairgainers, prior to offering a deal like this. you might have better results.

    • +5

No worries. We understand that it is a big investment (1-3 months supply) if you don't like the taste.

At this time we are getting 2000 samples made up which should be ready in a fortnights time. We will definitely get some posted out to you guys by then.

  • +2

What is the expiry on this? It is a great price for WPI with some added goodies & I'd love to support a smaller company… But I just received 5 kg of WPC from Bulk Nutrients!

    • Best before June 2014

      Thanks

  • -7

100% WPI is bullsh.. You can't get 100% WPI commercially, I'm sure the rep has cooked up some creative justifications for their misleading advertisement. Oh wait, 100% is part of the name? Can I add a 9 on a $5 note and pay for your 3kgs of protein with that?

It's further more not 100% WPI when you add Green Tea, L-carnitine and Hydroxy Citric Acid into it, is it?!

    • +7

Sorry Dexxl, We didn't mean to offend you with our name brand.

We stated that we use 100% Whey Protein Isolate because some people like to know what the breakup of their protein is. For instance, there are some proteins with 50% WPI/ 30% WPC/ 20% Casein. Our Platinum Whey protein is made with 100% Whey Protein Isolate and not a concentrate.

I hope that clears things up for you.

For a true indication of the nutritional facts, please look at the nutritional information on the side.

      • +3

Just to back enduro here - this is an actually responsible way to label it for the reason he/she lays out.

Bad labelling would be Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey line, which is a mix of WPI, WPC and whey peptides in undisclosed ratios.

    • He's just pointing out the blatant deceptive marketing for the benefit of others.

Don't neg cause he might also be angry! :)

  • If this could somehow be available until next Wednesday (19 June) then I may be able to buy it! No cash until then.

  • +2

Not a bargain. Go to Nobull supplements- you can get 3 kilos of WPI (all in different flavours) and shipping for $95 all up. it's also ~93% pure WPI protein.
