Returning GTA 4 PC

Hi, i'm planning to buy GTA 4 from EB Games but i'm not sure if it will run on my PC. I'm worried that i won't be able to return if it doesn't work because it requires online activation

I found this on the IGN site

Once I finish playing GTA IV, how can I go about giving it to my brother or friend as a gift? I bought it in the store just like all my other games, I can still hand it off to others once I'm done with it, right?

Rockstar: You can give the game out to anyone you want, at any point. If you bought the disc version, only the user who currently has the disc in the drive while playing will get to do so.

From this it looks like i should be able to return it but the EB games site doesn't list a preowned GTA 4 PC so i think they may not accept returns.

Can anyone clarify this?

  • I don't know if any retailer accepts returns for PC games. You could give them a call about it but be warned; the staff are not very knowledgeable.

I would suggest instead of paying $28 (holy crap!!!), wait a bit for the Steam sale which will be coming shortly and you can grab the same thing for $7.50.

    • i'm only buying from eb because i might be able to return it and because i have gift cards :)

  • What are the specifications of your PC?

    As a rough guideline:

Recommended Quad core CPU, or if running a dual core, at least Sandy Bridge i3 with 4 threads. If older, then it might not run smoothly
    4GB of RAM is preferable.
Graphics card that is faster/newer than Radeon 5770 for smooth gameplay.
If playing on higher settings, you're going to need a relatively fast GPU like 7850 / GTX 650.

    • Pentium G2020 with intel HD
      4GB RAM

I know they don't meet the minimum requirements but i have a friend who has been able to run it on HD graphics and another who can't. So it's a bit of a gamble. I only want to play it on min settings

      • I remember it looks quite crap on low settings but then again is does not look that good on high…

        • i don't really mind, i just want to play it :)

        • Alright. I tried to play on my on board graphics a few years ago now. I think it was a HD 4200. The game on lowest graphics ran quite bad. My cpu was not that good either
(AMD 240). I upgraded to a HD 5770 and I could play the game at full graphics.

The HD4200 was meant to be a higher up on board card. It was terrible.
Its not a bad game but I enjoyed Vice City a lot more.

        • Well, you have a desktop, so upgrades are possible. Depending on your budget you could throw in a $100 card (e.g AMD HD7770) and be playing a lot of other games as well, not just GTA4.

        • i put your specs into the game-debate site and my specs seem to be a lot better. Hopefully i'll be able to run it smoothly on low settings

  • Check the minimum specs required for gta4 on steam, I assume it would be the same as disc.

  • +1

Not sure why nobody has suggested this yet?

  • I have not seen an eb sell used pc games ever but they may accept it back as a return if it does not work
    Ask them up front

  • Without getting a dedicated GPU it wouldn't be worth it. You might be able to pick up a second hand 9600 gt for less than $50 that would probably make it nicely playable at respectable settings(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh1VXAYqius).

This video is of a g2020 playing GTAIV. Does not actually specify if it is with a dedicated GPU or integrated Intel HD graphics, but I am assuming it is on Intel.

This one too, actually says using intel HD graphics.

    • thanks, i bought the game a couple of days ago. I'm quite surprised how well it ran on my pc. It runs a bit smoother than the second video you linked
