  • That's not a complete set, lol

So disappointed that I read the books, killed the show for me altogether…

    • Hey, I've just started the show (only watched Season 1, episode 1) and I'm wondering whether I should continue with the show or read the books first…

      • +2

If you enjoy the show steer clear of the books until after the show is done and dusted.

BTW, the books are excellent though very sad and disturbing at times.

        • I watched all 10 episodes of the third season.very disappointed that I have to wait for another year for the new season. Please hint,if you also watched the show, how many more seasons will be ahead til the whole story is completely unfoldeded?

        • +3

It isn't after 5. That's one of the problems, GM doesn't seem to know how to wrap this up, he's like an old guy trailing off mid sentence cos he remembered his colostomy bag is full.

It's still good but only god knows how he intends on finishing this neatly. (He has almost admitted it himself that he is having trouble ending it)

        • it goes about 1 season for 1 book so if it goes at this rate it will be 5-7 season (depending how they want to split things up) till the story catches up to where to books are now, though the writer still has to write 2 more books
also apparently george has told the directors how he thinks it should end, if he were to die
total end of the whole series will probably be 9 or 10 seasons overall

Having read the books, I agree.
Hold off reading the books until the relevant TV season has completed.
The TV series is excellent, but the books are better!
Having read the books already, my imagined scenes are better than those of the TV show, so I constantly find myself mildly disappointed.

        • Largely true, however, the books muddle the timelines later on, so we've started to see some book 4 storyline but are yet to see all of the important plot points from book 3!

The books are terribly, TERRIBLY written. Why use a single word where a page or two will do instead? EPIC, amirite?

Stick to the TV series (never ever thought I'd say that.)

    • Yes my wife and I had a deal that we wouldn't read the books and she broke the pact. Some Game of Thrones restitution needed I think.

On the deal, I'd be waiting until he finishes them all too.

    • lol first time I've heard someone say that reading the books ruined a tv show/movie, it's usually the other way around.

    • +1

yup, read all the books after watching season one on TV.
      I couldn't watch another episode… :(

      • i enjoyed the books but would have to agree that if you want to truly enjoy the tv show, go in with nothing
luckily i read this at the start of season 1 so not remembering everything that happens is great, actually forgot about the red wedding up until shit went down

wish george will hurry up with the book writing though

    • Why is it not the complete set.
Do you say that as he has not finished the story yet ??

      • Two more to go. Not expected to finish them for 5 or 6 years.

        • or more.. (both in years and potentially in books, assuming he survives that long!)

    • I don't get it, why would reading the books "kill the show"?

Is it because the plot twists are now ruined? Or because the show is so crap compared to the books?

      • Both of those and more. I can't go into it without spoiler mania.

        • only good thing about reading before is knowing a bit more about the characters (though the tv show does it extremely well) and more likely to remember the all the names
though saying that it's better going in without knowing anything, way better

and you won't miss any characters
          spoilerish though not really:

poor strong belwas, hopefully he's introduced next season unlike the bloody mummers

      • The show is definitely not crap, I am up to date with TV show and almost finished book 1. I found the book matches the show.

        • Yeah, season 1/book 1 is close. Wait until 3 and 4

      • For me the world and events that occur in my head are even more grand than what they show in the TV series.
Plus, there's no suspense because you know what is going to happen next!

    Hodor!

    • +3

      HODOR!

      • +3

        Hodor?

        • Hodor Hodor

        • +1
        • You know nothing, Hodor.

        • "You kno nuttin jun snow"

    • Does anyone else picture Hodor as a pokemon since he only spouts his name? I do.

I picked these up at costco a couple of months ago for $32, for the same set.

    • :(
      No Costco in Brisbane yet.

    • Big w has had it for around $40 too, but they don't have it listed currently

      • Yeah… I checked Big-W online, they only had book 1 and 3 if I remember.

  • +1

The night is dark and full of terrors

    • not worth a neg though

      • +4

It is worth mentioning though. Someone could get really disappointed after reading all the books and then realizing they might have to wait another 5-10 years for the next books to come out.

        • +1

bit surprised I got so many negs, the many point that I didnt really say is that there will be a total of seven books in the series (eventually) and this is advertised as seven and complete

  • winter is coming

    • What is dead many never die, but rises again harder and stronger.

  • I suggest to read the books first. After S01E04 I found out about the books and started reading. Then when I caught up I watched each episode twice to compare with the book. This show surprisingly follows the books very closely, much much more than most shows. After a while you'll be far ahead and will forget all the little details, especially after a few years, and you still get enjoyment from the show. At the time my wife and kids went overseas 6 weeks b4 me and all I did was read the books the whole time. Usually I watch a lot of tv series. I download heaps, never watch tv, only what I download. I didn't watch any tv then. Got so hooked that I kept reading every spare minute of the day until I finished them. I read a lot, and for a few years before GoT I was mostly reading about history (real history, not the masonic crap they brainwash you with every day). Finding out what is really going on gets you depressed. Since then all I have been reading is epic fantasy. After this series I suggest The book of the fallen by Steven Erikson. 10 books even better than GoT, but much more complex reading. A lot of people find the first one too complex, due to the number of characters and end up giving up. If you stick through it it will be the best thing you have ever read. That's enough from me.

  • Not that good of a price. $55 is roughly normal price for the box set now. Also Costco Melbourne was selling them for $34 a few months ago and might still be.
