Philips Headphones $7.98 @ Dick Smith (SHE3500BL) Excellent Quality

731

Note: Free shipping no longer valid.

Hey all,

Thought people might be interested in these. Serious budget beaters (my personal IEMs) which have an envious reputation from audiophiles - many preferring them to their expensive flagship models. Check out the 40 page thread over at Head-Fii for numerous testimonies on their quality. There's nothing in this price bracket available locally that sounds this good:

how can something sound so good for $10???

They're currently going for about half price at this current time. Internally the SHE3500/3580/3590 are all the same (I own 3500 & 3590 personally). Are great amped or running directly from your device.

Check them out, if only because they're $8. You may be surprised by what you find.

I just ran a check on stock levels. Got 253 stores (out of a total of 263 stores) with this item 'In stock', so I don't think I need to post a list of store names! :-)

Thanks, for $8 Ill give them a go. Free shipping too! (you should add this to your title)

Not getting free shipping in Adelaide - cost is $4.95

      • Sorry mate. I think the free shipping is off now (I didn't add that by the way, a mod did). I got mine from Westlakes though. They had a display near the checkout. Lots of stock. Maybe try there if you're near?

  • grabbed a couple- thanx op :)

I think I now have enough earphones to open my own shop :)

Just note there is a comment in the thread you linked to suggesting the SHE3500BL has different specs to the SHE3580, although people agree the 3580/3590 are the same with different colours.

Still great value for money with free shipping, but retail is only $10 any given day and HN have them for $9 as well.

    • I had the same concerns. I own both now, and the sound signature is exactly the same. Pretty sure they are the same. The thread starter also thinks so according to posts and PMs.

      • Good to know!

Yes, to prevent impulsive buy, people need to calm down a little bit since it's only 1-2 bucks different from rrp.

    • +4

and ive already bought the meelectronics headphones from yesterday. must resist

  • +8

I wonder how these stack up to the recently posted MEElectronics.

    • I think my m6 is better :)

    • was about to ask the same thing! anyone got both and can compare for us?

  • +10

Harvey Norman sold them twice for $2.80 in the past 6 months and had heaps (cos i bought alot :P), Maybe wait that same sale agian.. as stated abbove it aint much of RRP

    • Do you know whether the deal was ever posted on Ozbargain?

Their were a few more headphones not listed in listing..

And even though harvey norman says its out of stock, usually when you go into store they have heaps for some reason..

        • +4

Wow, 3 times the price and 3 times the number of votes. This is Ozbargain isn't it?

  • Got Philips in right now almost identical. I absolutely love them (got them for something like $5.95 in the bargain bin at HN).
They look the same, how can I tell if they are?

    noooooooooo

just brought those other earphones for 22$
    lolss

i been ozbargained here. taking all my money lol

  • can someone please advise if they fit people with small ear canals?

    • +2

I'd say so. They come with three tip sizes too: S/M/L. My girlfriend said the mediums hurt a bit, but now with the smalls it's fine.

      • +9

Mine says the same about my large. I tell her sorry I am born like this..

  • Bought 2 pairs…should be good for the gym.

  • +1

I had to buy this for $13ish when I lost my previous pairs (single balanced armature unit & Logitech Metrofi 220) on my overseas trip. If you have used any headphones that are more than $20~30 range, I strongly do not recommend buying this.

    • I don't know about that… I've got a lot of budget king headphones (Jaycar HM5s, ATH-M50s, MH463s etc.) and these are hardly left in the dust, especially factoring in price.

      • I meant in-ear headphones not studio headphones above. Certainly good on low bass frequency response range with bass exaggeration but it also lacks in higher middle/vocal frequency range just like any other cheap in-ears of other manufacturers(eg. Sony). I would say it's a good value(you can't go wrong much with $8 headphone anyway) especially if you like boom-boom bass sound. It is too much bass for me and personally I think the previous deal from logitech shop(UE200 in late 2011 if I am correct) makes much better (more balanced) sound .

        • Ah I see. I agree there is a bit of bass exaggeration, but I didn't feel the mods/highs are lacking. Just on that though - what's your personal recommendation for IEMs under $100? A lot seem to give the nod to the Hifiman RE-4000

  • $8 & free delivery? I'll give 'em a go. Thanks OP.

  • Also available in White/Pink at the same price
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/A8359/philips-compact-in-ear…

Bought a pair of each (his & hers) for use in training sessions. Won't care too much when they die from being eaten by the salt in sweat….

I bought these about 5 months ago, when they were half price (around $6) and I found them very bad, comparing to 6 year old iPod nano headphones and the headphones that came with galaxy S. I think the real price for these should not exceed $3. Sound quality is crap. And the bass is non existent. Luckily I got a big ones through ozbargain (audiotechnica ATH-T400)and especially after using them I can't use these philips ones.

    • +1

totally agree, i got a couple pairs for $2.80 when they were on special at Harveys. really tinny sound.

    • -1

Thanks for the heads up. I won't bother as I have plenty of crappy chinese plus laying around. Cheers.

  • You can use a wish gift card on checkout. So buy a gift card with ing card get 5% then use it on these dick smiths purchases :)

  • Picked up 2 sets from Carlingford, NSW. There were plenty of stock still left. Using one now and it's nowhere close to my Aurvana X-Fi, but that was $120 on sale. It's good value for money!

  • Just ordered 2!

Thanks for the deal. I've been looking for some backup earphones.

  • bought

  • Oh man it hurts a lot. Its so paintful in ear. I dont even like the sound output. I dont know why i bought it.

  • I got these for $2.80 from Harvey Norman like Chiken said. Deal???

    • +2

It's not a deal. Shows you can't judge a deal by the number of votes it receives.

I think I bought these just because they were on OzB.

I'm not an audiophile, but having only used the Beatz(tm) in-ear headphones, I really don't think they sound bassy.

    • +3

having only used the Beatz(tm) in-ear headphones, I really don't think they sound bassy

      Well, there's your first problem…

      • +1

I should clarify, I mean this is only the second pair with the rubber in-ear crap.

    • the word beatz is a tm now? what is going on with this world

and why do you bother with a tm? do you think anyone on OZB cares about (tm)?

  • I spent a good hour comparing these back to back with my UE200's and Brainwavz Beta listening to Daft Punk, ACDC and Lana Del Ray and these were better with all music types. More bass, and cleaner, more detailed sound. However, none of them come close to the Audio Technica ATH-WS55i's I have (over ear).
    Definitely great value for$8.

  • +1

I received mine. They come in the most annoying packaging possible and Philips take the time to tangle the cable for you so you don't have to do it yourself. However they sound pretty decent, not sure if I would say bassy but well worth the $$.

  • Doesn't look like free delivery any more :-(

  • Received mine… Pretty good sound in general for everyday use on the train!

  • i got mine
they are really good for the price
they aren't really bassy though, they are clear sounding

  • I bought 1 yesterday from Dick smith Broadway sydney for 5$. they had 3 more this price.
