M3 FileRescuer Professional (PC) FREE (Was $49.95)

70

Let's face it, we've all been there.. files have been lost through fumbly fingers or worse, we've given a drive to a friend of our favorite mp3s/movies/marital aids and instead of copying, they've moved the file instead..

When it comes to recovery software, you can NEVER have enough tools for the job.. and for gods sake, don't recover the files to the same hard disk..

Anyway, todays freebee from bitsdujour (some french sounding freebie site) is a file recovery app.

The advertising fluff…

"M3 FileRescuer Professional recovers more than 600 unique file formats from all types of storage media. With M3 FileRescuer Professional, you’ll be able to safely recover data previously thought lost due to deletion, formatting, loss or partition, or a number of other reasons! Even if you have absolutely no prior experience using data recovery software, M3 FileRescuer Professional will amaze and astound you with intuitive wizard interfaces that walk you through the simple process of rescuing your files.

When you have M3 FileRescuer Professional by your side, you aren’t just able to recover files from your hard drive – you’ll have a brilliant data recovery solution that’s perfect for USB drives, external hard drives, SD cards, CompactFlash cards, and a full spectrum of other storage devices! Best of all, M3 FileRescuer Professional works in a read only mode that means your data is never at risk of being damaged!"

That said, its free, it seems to work, you just have to supply a throwaway email address and they email you a link of the software. No serial number, just a specially modified installer. That said, no ongoing updates either.. but hey, it's free and could restore those accidental deletions made in haste..

Any better than the good-ol' Piriform Recuva? I've been using that with moderately high success rates.

…or you could use a freeware solution that probably does a better job.

    • Yeah, too many of these file recovery software costs money. I used a free software for Mac OS X and it worked very well, cant remember the name, and it was probably through a shell only.

  • I can't recall ever needing this…
I just need something that will recover what I lost when I hit the wrong button at the "Save Changes?" prompt!
