This is a better pick up, not directly comparable and yes these are $22.50 (for 2 so $11.25 each) but you'll make your money back in less than a year easily. Also 25,000 hours instead of just 2,000. So you'll have to buy 12 of the globes in this deal to last the same time as one of these LED's.

    • Not directly comparable and not necessary a better pick up:
      - You will not make back your money easily. In this particular case you have to run the LEDs on average 3h per day to break even in a year (using $0.25 per kW). Hence they are a good deal only if used in some parts of the house.
      - They are equivalent to 35W only. Again not very helpful unless you can live with about 1/3 less light.

    Thanks Rekabkram.

Noted, but just so general consumers know, this product you mentioned is an LED item, and for the padantic in me, completely different products.

    Mainly in that:

    • Colour rendering is not true 100% like Incandescent/Halogen
    • The Philips retrofit does not have the 'true' light output as a 50W and will be less bright
    • You will not get the "Rainbow" edges from an LED, which is quite a nice effect if you have some serious light scalloping effect going on, or if you are highlighting crystal items.
    • Not everyone can afford the $1.10 to $22.50 switch to LED upfront, so more of an option to other consumers. Plus this is OzBargain ;)

One other thing to note, the Philips LED line of gear in the Masters/Bunnings is the consumer grade and not the contractor grade lamps that we stock. Contractor grade will usually be higher quality and last longer and have the "MASTER" series attached to the box somewhere.

So if you want contractor grade stuff, feel free to visit us at any of our branches.

I just noticed i forgot to mention colour temperature in the specs. Adjusting now.

    Thanks for your feedback :)

    PS nice profile pic!

    • Any chance on a deal on them

  • What sort of light fitting does this require? I have been looking for something to mount above my little mini greenhouse that contains chilli plant seedlings. This kind of light would be good but I somehow think that getting a fitting and having it wired will be cost prohibitive.

    • Hi Bonez,

This lamp uses a 12V current so any light fitting that can convert 240v current to 12V and takes the MR16 base can be used, however we strongly advise that you get a licensed professional to wire anything up to mains.

You can install it yourself if you have GPO and flex and plug fixture/unit, however if your not technical, we still advise with everything electrical to get a professional to do so.

On a side note however, if you are planning on encouraging growth in your plants, we would recommend specialised plant growth tubes rather than the halogen, they may get a better result for you depending on the purpose.

Feel free to drop by any of our stores and ask our staff and we will find the best 'bright solution' (excuse the pun) for your needs
