LPG is between 66.9 and 69.9c here in Adelaide. I welcome 10c off to make it 59.9c and beat every service station within at least a 50km radius.

For those buying petrol be sure to check out http://www.aip.com.au/pricing/tgp/index.htm and see the real price of petrol and hence what you can expect to pay at the bottom of the weekly discount cycle.

        weekly discount cycle

Only if you're in Perth, although Adelaide almost seems to be trying to revert back to a weekly cycle lately, the last 4 cycles peak-peak have been 7, 8, 9 and 7 days, before this in recent times it had been anywhere from 12-21 days peak-peak.

        • +1

If I'm buying petrol I refer to the AIP site to see what sort of price I can expect at the low end of the cycle. Generally the wholesale price a week ago is roughly where the discount cycle will stop this week. There are times where the cycle seems to break and stop, hovering low or not dropping so much after the last round of discounting. Picking that moment can be tricky.

I drive on LPG almost all the time anyway and there's no cycle there. It's diesel drivers who are stuck the most with consistently high fuel prices and no discounting war at all.

        • Yep it's a bit of an educated guessing game picking when a cycle will bottom out. The tgp is a good indicator for when prices will rise, or sometimes they just stay stable for several days or more e.g. My local servos in late May / early June didn't change their ulp price for about a week before dropping a bit in the following few days and then finally rising. If you buy for a few cents below tgp before any discounts are applied then you're doing ok.

        • @cluster Thanks for that tidbit.

  • My Woolworths has 15 cents off when you spend $100 plus an extra 4 cents off if spend $5 at servo. Assume it is Aussie wide.

    • Thats not bad.. I hate my local Woolworths service station. They charge a credit card surcharge as well as they do not let you use those discount coupons on gas.

        credit card surcharge is BS.

This deal will work in nicely with the docket deal, coupon and triple points email offer I'm planning to use this weekend.

    • +4

Im doing that today!!! but im also raking in the Coles Mastercard points also 4 points per dollar on the card (2 standard, and 2 bonus for having coles insurance).

This is the breakdown of my weekly shop tommoro.

for my $120 shop tommoro I will earn the following:

      120 Standard Flybuys points
240 Bonus Flybuys points being a triple point weekend
      480 Coles Mastercard Points
500 Coupon Week 9 Bonus points for spending >$50
1000 Docket Deal points for spending >$110

So in total thats 2340 Flybuys points ($11.70) and the 10c ($6 value on 60 litres of fuel) fuel voucher.

      • +4

That beats my points transaction tomorrow for spending $70 but my second transaction for the weekend might put me over your totals.
        70 standard flybuys points
140 bonus flybuys points for triple points email
        500 coupon points spend $70
500 docket deal points spend $70

total 1210 flybuys points $6.05. Credit card points 140 for a value of 80 cents. 10 cents fuel docket $4 value on 40 litres of fuel.

I'm planning a $50 transaction using my partner's flybuys account on Sunday
        50 standard flybuys points
100 bonus points for triple points email
500 docket deal points for spending $50
total 650 flybuys points worth $3.25 plus fuel voucher $6 value on 60 litres of fuel. Credit card points 100 for 57 cents.

I have been a FlyBuys member since the very day it launched. Knowing how to play the game yields best results!!

I only ever get wine docket deals. How do you get flybuy point docket deals? is it just the luck of the draw?

        • +1

The liquorland docket deals used to print all the time regardless of whether the flybuys member shopped at liquorland or not. They even appeared on dockets which didn't have a flybuys number on them.

The bonus points for groceries and discount docket deals are targeted offers that get printed on the docket. I'd rather have them by email but the dockets are still fun. You have to be a regular shopper in order to get all the docket deals that have been selected for your account. They only have a certain time period to be used but the valid dates are sometimes longer than the email targeted offers.

They seem to come and go depending on flybuys promotions at the time. Sometimes they are large 500/1000 points like the ones above and sometimes they are only for 75 points for specific items. I sometimes do a tiny shopping trip the day before a large shopping trip just to see if I can trigger a docket deal for use the next day.

      • how does the following work, are they email specific?

"500 Coupon Week 9 Bonus points for spending >$50
1000 Docket Deal points for spending >$110"

        thanks!

        • They are account specific.

The weekly coupons were targeted depending on your top spending level or average spending level( the values don't always work out fairly). The weekly coupons were posted to selected members a couple of months ago.

The docket deals are printed on the bottom of the coles receipts. They are also targeted to your spending limits and the types of products you regularly buy.

You present the coupons before paying for your shopping and the checkout operator scans them. If scanned correctly they appear as a 1 cent total on your receipt which is then removed for the final transaction amount.

They are a good way of getting more points but it is a hassle keeping track of bits of paper and the expiry date of each coupon/docket.

        • According to the terms and conditions the docket deals and coupons can only be used for the specific account they were sent to. I've never tested out this condition. My partner and I got the same docket deal recently with the sames points and spending qualification. I think they had the same barcode but I'm not certain.

        • They are targeted offers.

The coupons were are mail out, that were for 12 weeks. Their was also individual bonus points product offers also. These ones are not good value. They are simply designed to make you buy a product in all likelihood you sormally wouldnt. I dont fall for this trap. But the generic spend $xx to get xx points are great because Id spend that money anyways.

The trick to Flybuys is timing. And of course a Flybuys linked credit card is where most of the magic happens!

The docket deal I also believe is member specific. The best I have scored of a docket deal is 2000 Bonus points.

  • damn i just spent $100 at coles last night

    • +2

      return everything.

    • Adjust your shopping to be done on a Friday-Sunday, thats when the majority of bonus point offers and petrol offers occur, although lately it seems to have crept to Thursdays also.

  • +1

Feels good when that discount gets scanned

  • Gift cards excluded :(

  • Time to spend the $50 voucher that was a gift for signing up the Coles Mastercard :)
