Aren't these one of the company's still complicit in the exploitation and subsequent death of workers in Bangladesh?

    • +1

I'm not sure what's worst, buying clothes off them so the workers at least have a job, or not buy and hoping working conditions improve and then buy the clothes.

      • +1

The fact is where there is no pressure to improve conditions they don't improve. They would still have their clothes made in Bangladesh but at a slightly higher cost - may not sit with OzBr's philosophy but ethics is not just a consideration for foreign places.

That's actually how I feel about Australian brick and mortar rrps.

        • Interesting I watched a 4 corners video on this.

          Look up rana plaza

Negging that says much about some OzBr's. I know some don't care when others bleed. Let's hope the bleeding doesn't come home …

i didn't neg, but sometimes the only thing worse than apathy is misplaced self-righteousness

        • +2

I didn't perceive his comment to be self-righteous. I assumed he was informing those that did not know about this situation. I for one, was unaware CottonOn was guilty of this until his comment.

Kudos MarkB4 for caring more about people than your hip pocket. The world could use more people like you.

Thanks Roozy, that was my only intent - having seen the collapse of a sweatshop where at least 400 people were killed in the Rana building collapse (just one of many such tragedies) for the bottom line because much of the cheap clothes we can happily buy are a direct cause - western company buyers squeeze for the lowest prices. It's just not right, or acceptable - to me. Others MMV and that's their rightful position, until something happens to change that. Life has a way …

I believe compassion for those in the chain of production has a place when considering a purchase. I'd like to see such information on the label, but the world we live in …

        • The sad reality is that a large portion of this is attributable to there simply being too many humans on earth. We are now on track to breach 10 billion, which simply isn't sustainable. It is also impossible to expect 10 billion (or even 7.1 as it is now) to all live comfortable lives on this planet until that number declines (hopefully through education, birth control and a shift in cultural thinking when it comes to the family).

We will always exploit each other, especially when there isn't enough resources to go around (not saying it is acceptable, simply a reality of human nature). I'm NOT saying this is the answer to this specific instance, but compassion for relatively few workers by avoiding cotton on isn't going to fix the safety problem; you have to tackle it at a higher level.

For those can't be bother to look up HEREit is

      • Thank goodness for the ABC - many of the other big media companies are owned by mining companies or multimillionaires who want ad revenue and wont touch investigative stories like this.

No wonder Abbott will be trying to privatise the ABC if he gets in.

    • Well how much is your soul worth?

      http://search.dilbert.com/search?w=shoe+soul&asug=&view=list…

Anyway with the internet we more less than skip the middleman and retailers. Just as new artist can get their music out without going through record labels.

I'm sure with the internet we don't need to see a retailer buy a belt for 50 cents and then sell it for $10-15 in the store, instead most of the money can go towards the people who put in the labor to product the product.

  • saw that yesterday… the best deal is the $1 shoe but similar shoes can get $3-$4 sometimes instore or few-shipping online, $10 Shipping kills the deal….

The other's are just some sunnies, belts and hats which had so much already

Unless I can get 50 items to get free delivery!

    • Yeah true, I picked up 10 different $2 shirts and the shoes and a few $1 accessories(so about 2 bucks per item). I thought good in my case, so thought to share the deal.

      • It's a good deal though… I should have post it yesterday

Unless u want to share with someone or u got many stuffs to buy… it doesn't worth if just buying only 1-2 items

        • +2

I just realised, shipping is free if you buy 500 Squeegees.

  • +2

    shipping is a kill

  • anyone have experience with quality/comfort of those shoes?

    • I've bought a $1 Shoe and $2 Shoe similar style ones from Cotton On Outlet at Jan…. their Quality and Comfort are similar to those $5-$7 in Kmart or Target but BRANDED, will feel tired if you walk with it all day… Overall Alright!

BTW… they maybe uglier than u expected, but it depends on everyone

      • thanks, i was looking to pick up some of the $10 pairs.
branded as in cotton on house brand? wouldn't say that's much better than kmart house brands :/

    online only?

    • Just went to the Richmond store. Offer prices are available in store as well but the store doesn't have all items in stock.

  • Not bad, but shipping is quite high!

  • If anyone is buying anything and having it shipped to Hobart, I'll pay 5 bucks for the Dyna Boat Stone Shoe size 44

    Thanks :)

  • If anyone is buying anything and having it shipped to Melbourne, I'll pay $3.5 for the Dyna Boat Stone Shoe size 41

    Thanks :)

    • which suburb?

  • i bought a $2 backpack for my kid, then I bought their $2 paisley bag (similar to your grocery cheap bags, but this was nicer) which says all profits go to charity

    All junk + postage.

  • Anyone in Perth want to combine order? I have $25 worth of stuffs that I'm interested in buying…

  • Any one in Sydney want to share ? My order around $18

  • I must say, not as good as previous deals. Seems to be the junk left over. Couldn't find enough to warrant the shipping costs lol.

just buy $50 worth of stuff, use excess as gifts to relatives and friends.

      They are decent stuff.

Your friends will like you more if you give em a 'gift pack' that cost you $5, but is really $40 worth of goodies.

Or if your cheap and dont want to spend much on your relos birthday pressies.

      • I fall into the latter category :)
