  • apus show $170 as the price for the dir-655 was it priced lower yesterday? (I'm only a few minutes behind your original posting :)
edit - oh I see - price match with apus/shoppingsquare then $100 rebate from dlink for units purchased from HN or JB (yes I know you said in in the title - its early and I havent had enough coffee lol thanks for the post!)

  • I've got one of these. It has Gigabit ethernet ports and Wireless N (and a usb port for sharing hard drives).

  • If it came with an inbuilt ADSL2+ modem, I'd be interested!

I have a modded WRT-54G, which performs flawlessly, and after reading this review of the "D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router", I guess I'll be sticking with my old router:

    http://www.cnet.com.au/wireless/0,239028844,339273558,00.htm

    • I was tempted to buy the Dlink too based on the price, but you are right - I also own a modded WRT-54G, and for several years now this router has performed rock solid and gives me no benefit of upgrading (apart from the shared usb port, that might come in handy).

  • JRuisan,
Can you please scan and post your receipt?
WfdTamar, how big a HDD can you connect to the router?
    Thanks,

  • There's no mention of a capacity limit, so I don't see why you couldn't use a 1Tb or more one.

This is 2.4 Ghz wireless N, not the better 5Ghz sort.

  • Which HN did you buy from. Can anyone else verify this deal. I keen to use one as a 3G router as I have a spare E220 for this purpose.

  • Bought from HN @ Alexandria.

Note it was the last one left.

I called the shop and they said I should bring a link so I asked whether to bring a printout instead and they said it would even be better.

    Went to store,
    Presented the printout (Einfield) http://ijk.com.au/branch/kingsford/product_info.php?manufact…
And they gave to me for $194 (Beat by $1) lol.

  • Cool I picked one up from Harvey Norman (Auburn) they had a few on the shelf. Just said I called earlier (I didn't) and I'm here to pickup a price match DIR655. The looked at the price $186.95 and wrote it on the sticker. Just be aware they have some older stock there. I made sure I go the latest HW Rev A4, there was and A3 left on the shelf and a couple more A4's

    • Can you please post a scanned copy of your receipt?
      Much appreciated,
      Thanks,
      Varun

  • Anyone try it in Vic?

  • OOO dammn I gotta A3, not an A4

  • Is this ADSL+2/VOIP compatible?

  • It's a router only not an ADSL modem/router so I would only work if you had an existing ADSL modem.

Varunpant: I will see if I can scan it at work tomorrow. Can someone tell me how I can upload image onto this site?

Could D-Link refuse the cashback on the grounds that you got a price match?
D-Links T&C say "This offer cannot be combined with any other promotions."

    • +1

My understanding to the condition is "This offer can't be combined with any other promotion held by DLink, if you participate in the $100 rebate offer by Dlink, then you will not be elgible for any other promotion run by Dlink".

I just guessing as English is not my first language. I believe DLink should not control the selling price of the retailers.

      • +1

Yeah I think you are right; however the RRP on that router is $269 and Apus/Shoppingsquare sells it for exactly $100 less. The D-Link rebate only applies to HN and JB-Hifi — I'm just worried that they had a deal with D-Link to sell it for a high price in order to offer the rebate.

What do HN and JB Hifi originally sell the router for?

EDIT: Read the below post and I am now satisfied that it works :)

  • But price matching is not another promotion.

It is merely a price match.

The guy @ HN said it's fine and you can get it.

    There is no modem.

  • Hey can this router work as a wireless access point?

I already have N and G routers, but they dont seem to work as access points - looking to buy a router to work as a multi-port access point rather than buy seperate wireless adapters for XBOX 360 and Tivo

  • Picked up one today in Brisbane, HN Garden city sold out, I went to JB Hifi nearby got it to $194, they wouldnt budge on $168 because they buy it for $164 lol! Picked up the last A4 version, I think I took the last A4 version, others were all A3. Do we have to CUT out the bottom of the box, I like keeping my boxes!

  • Got my cashback in 4 days!!! Awesome work Dlink. Top 3G (with your own USB dongle) for $86.

  • Haven't got my cashback yet but I have submitted it.. and damn I never knew about all the difference in HW Versions and all that =/
Btw how can you tell from the OUTSIDE of the box which hardware version it is?! I looked at the box and I see no sign of how you can tell whether it's HW Rev 4 or HW Rev 3? Is it just luck..?

edit: Received the $100 Cashback on 31/3/09 - cheque is dated 24/3/09

    • Hardware revision is near the barcode (which I assume you cut out!). The only major difference that I am aware of is the picture on the box is different! :P
