With the new firmware the camera AF actually performs quite well. It's not quite as good as the DSE clearance deals though…hope it's good for someone :)

  • That's a very good price. Made me think now if I made a good choice buying a used X100 at $500+ lol. You essentially get the same sensor size and focal length.

    • But the X100 has a viewfinder and looks amazing.

  • When this got reviewed in FEB, it was worth $800, so quite the deal. The reviewer didn't really like it though…

  • have they fixed AF issues yet?

    • see above :)

      • Cycle times still slow though?

  • Excellent deal. Killer omission for me is the viewfinder :(

    • Depends a bit what you're shooting and with what lenses. I have a couple of Micro Four Thirds cameras and with my E-P2 and 20mm lens, I've never really missed a viewfinder. But when using the 40-150mm lens on it, things become much more difficult. With it's longer focal length, steadiness and composing become much more critical and then I much prefer the E-M5 because of it's viewfinder. However, as I don't really use the longer zoom much, I am actually considering trading the E-M5 for the E-P5, which technically is almost the same camera, but without the viewfinder. My E-P2 fits nicely in a jacket pocket, while E-M5 is quite hard to get in and out just because of the viewfinder hump. Having said that, I wouldn't mind having the viewfinder, it's just that it's position on top of the camera, in a big hump makes it inconvenient. If it was located nicely on the top left corner, within the measurements of the rest of the camera body, that would be perfect.

      • Sony NEX6/7 has VF on the left top corner. :-)

  • Can anyone please help me as to whether it would be better to get the 22mm lens or the 18-55mm lens?
I have the 18-55mm lens from the twin lens set for my Canon 650d.
    Thanks

You'll need to get the EFS adapter for your lens to work on the EOS-M. That said this looks like a great buy and I'd also like to hear from owners on which lens to get.

You'd be limited with 22 in the sense that you have to compose your shots more carefully than the 18-55, but it can still be a great walkaround lens. Try shooting only at 22mm with your 18-55 so you can get a feel of the focal length.

Since you already have the twin lens with the 650d, I suggest u buy the 22mm kit plus the "canon eos m mount adaptor", about $150 + delivery from amazon.

The adaptor will let you use your canon dslr lenses on the eos m. Maximum flexibility for not too much money

This camera is great. Lucky to get one as part of the DSE deals. 22mm lens is great and in my opinion a better option than the 18-55mm. However AF is really slow. Frustratingly slow. Hopefully the new firmware will drastically improve this.

Amazon can't send the adaptor to Australia, so you'd need to arrange some third-party for that. B&H are currently out of stock of the adaptor, but probably easy to get stock in with a bit of wait.

One other thing to consider is if you plan to carry both cameras with you or just one of them. If you take both cameras then definitely get the 22mm. The 22mm is a higher quality lens and faster aperture, which is great for low light/indoors. It is also very compact and will give you a small package that delivers as good photos as the 650D.

If you just take 1 camera, it reduces your flexiblity but it will force you to spend more time composing your shots, which should help to improve your skills.

    • $459 from Georges with adaptor :)

    • Thanks everyone for all your help, I really appreciate it!! I ended up buying the 22mm and I will look at buying the adaptor to use the lenses I have for my 650d.
