unbeatable bargain. Bought one last december. same price $199 at ple.

  • they must be clearing out for the new model

i think its an official price drop http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/new-nexus-7-release-could-be-im…

US retailer Staples have dropped the price of the Nexus 7 tablet, the 16GB Nexus 7 has been reduced by $20 to $179.99 and the 32GB model has been dropped by $50 to $199.99, which could mean that the company is clearing their inventory of the device before the new Nexus 7 launches.

Hopefully will get cheaper when new model is released

    • Another Article

      http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/487846/20130709/plunging-nexu…

As if to prepare the way for the rumoured August release date for the second-gen 7-inch stock Android tablet, U.S. retailers are cutting down its predecessor's price tags, providing more reasons for tablet buyers to clean off the shelves before the replacement arrives.

      and

On its release date, pegged for first week of August, the 7-inch tablet is seen as the first Android slate to showcase Jelly Bean 4.3, which is matched by top-notch components and a starting price of no more than $US220.
Also, it is highly likely that Google will uncloak the Nexus 7 2 on July 11 prior to its commercial debut a few weeks ahead, reports said.

  • +1

Yeah this has been an attainable price for a fair few months. I don't see why these things keep re-appearing around the same price! TBH- I had one and sold it. I couldn't understand the hype… Was a 32GB bought for $199 in Feb.

    • +4

True, personally id wait for the release of the new one and grab this for even cheaper

      The rumored specs are:

      Full HD 1080x1920 resolution
      Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor
      2GB of RAM.
      32GB storage
      5Mp rear camera
      1.2Mp front camera
      4000mAh battery
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and support for 4G LTE networks.

      • I've seen these specs floating around and hope they're not true. It's a higher res screen and more powerful processor, with an LTE option and camera, yet the battery is smaller then the current one.

        • The Cortex-A9 is an energy hungry chip. I think the A15 should use less.

        • Qualcomm don't make typical A9 or A15. They use Krait… Your claim isn't always true either except in the case of A5.

      • how much will they sell for?

        • probably what the nexus 7 RRP was

  • cr*p, forgot my DS password.

    • +5

You did not forget your password, DS has "upgraded" their website and reset everyone's account.

      • I see, thought it was my bad memory again.

This tablet is great, bought one last time it was on sale, gave it to my mom. Good timing actually, just sold my Galaxy Tab 7.7, although I do like the screen on the 7.7, but the Nexus is heaps faster. Gonna get one for myself this time.

      • You did not forget your password, DS has "upgraded" their website and reset everyone's account.

So, that's it… and how does one get ones new password?

        • You have to wait the 6 hours it took mine to come through the other day -____-

        • Click the forgot your password link on the login form and wait for the email to come saying "Hello firstname lastname!" - mine came through in a couple of minutes.

        • Click the forgot your password link on the login form and wait for the email to come saying "Hello firstname lastname!" - mine came through in a couple of minutes.

I have done this several times. Never get the email.

  • Since getting one at the start of the year, i love it, use it every day!

  • Weird. The DS main page shows the special, but when you click 'buy now' it takes you to the product page with a price of $269.

I have one already. Use it all the time as well. Thinking of getting one for guests to watch XMBC movies when they stay over via the yatse app (works really well) as no tv in guest room atm. Although a 16gb would work just as well for that - will check out prices on those.

    • +3

Being a guest at your house sounds awesome.

  • +1

Weird… I cant seem to buy this item.
The home delivery option is greyed out and the click and collect option is not available for this product.

Edit: ok nvm it's out of stock.

    • Still says it is in stock. But the checkout is broken.

Click and collect works in Chrome, but not firefox, for me.

On second thoughts I might wait. Maybe they will bring out a 3G model that is not crippled from making calls.

      • -1

click and collect not working in chrome anymore

  • +1

too bad they don't have the 3g model. I got the 32gb wifi but now wish I had 32gb 3g.

  • +3

So many 7" tablet sales, I'm still pedaling my HP Touchpad waiting for a good 10" deal to come along.

    • -2

I know - these tablets are useless if you have a Note 2.

    • nope, nothing good on the horizon so far, iPad is ruling the roost on the 10" on the consumer market

      samsung is focused on phones

the bigger tabs demand a lot of attention,

      high res screen
      batt life
      powerful SOC
      good games
      productive apps

it should be a walk in the park for MS and Intel or hopefully AMD

      • Hardware-wise the Nexus 10 is very competitive or was back when it was released. The issue has always been the lack of tablet optimised apps to make it worthwhile on Android.

I had a HP Touchpad 6 months ago when this was clearly so and I doubt it has changed markedly since then. The other issue, perhaps more Touchpad-related was that input latency is much more noticeable on a larger screen although I'm sure this has markedly improved with faster chips and Jelly Bean smoothness.

    • I like the Sony Xperia Tablet Z (10") but at the price they're asking I have yet to bite. I want the cellular option, but not for $650-700 (with 16GB), it's too expensive. I'm hoping Samsung (or someone) releases something with better res than the Note 10 / Gtab 10 sometime soon!

I still have the original Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000T (7"), from the Telstra Clearance, don't really use it a lot these days.

  • -3

Looks like its sold out, checkout not working

Dick Smith , get ready for the phone calls this morning

    • Says instock for me. But i can see this turning the usual pear shape that DS deals seem to go.

    • +2

More like website bugs. Now it shows as $199 instead of $269.

      • -1

        $269 instead of $199

        • The first time I checked it showed $269. Now back to showing $199 a couple of minutes later.

  • +2

    Price beat at OW?

    • Yes I did that yesterday at Woollongabba QLD store, OW price down to $189

  • I wait for the Sony Xperia Z tablet or the HP Slatebook. Oh yeah, forgot, I already have the Nexus 7, from when it came out. Love it.

  • +2

I don't understand why they implemented a new check out system. Their old one was fantastic, this one pales in comparison.

Also apparently they changed their policy regarding click and collect:

If you reserve an item with click and collect and the price goes up before you can retrieve the item. You pay the new elevated price. I don't believe it was ever like that before.

  • +2

every time I add it, it goes into my "click and collect" basket!!! but I want it in my "home delivery" basket….and I can't work out how to change it.

    This is shit.

    • Both options are actually greyed out … so even though click and collect is selected it doesn't seem to work either.

    • @clandestino

every time I add it, it goes into my "click and collect" basket!!! but I want it in my "home delivery" basket….and I can't work out how to change it.

      This is shit.

Because of you forgot to +?….(O)

  • Still says $269 for me, probably because I'm in WA. I'm thinking I'll wait for the new one anyway.

Edit: When you click add to cart it comes up as $199.

  • +1

$179.59 with OW price match + ING 5%
    thinking to buy another one

    • wish i signed upto the ing deal

    • -2

add in staff discount = 170.60

      gst claim = 154.25

      • +2

staff discount dont work on price beats

      • how to use Woolworth staff card for discount

    • ING 5% up to $100 purchases only.

  • System is up and running now … But it wont accept my gift cards as payment.

What a POS system. Bring back the old one!

  • Can confirm this is the real deal - saw an ad for it on TV as part of Dicks Daily Deals

  • if it helps anyone, home delivery basket and click&collect basket both were grayed out when i tried to place order from laptop, but I could place my order thru my smart phone Nexus 4.

    • Tried on Nexus 4, iPad and Laptop, still not working

  • Just got one w/ home delivery option

  • +2

How do you click home delivery when its greyed out and its stuck on click and collect for me

  • +2

Says out is stock when I try to buy… Or less me do click and collect but will not let me select a store… Not loving the new bugs on the new dick smith site!

  • +1

I'm also getting "Temporarily out of stock" when logged in and stuck in click and collect when logged out. Hmmmm.

  • +1

Saying click and collect for me, wont let me buy for delivery….arghhh

  • It says "Availability: Home Delivery" (only), and when you click "Buy Now or Click and Collect" and it puts it in the "Click and Collect" not the "Home Delivery" basket. And sometimes it says "Temporarily out of stock" on the product page, but not always. Does that mean the little stock they had is gone? Pretty slack if that's the case.

  • +1

So much hassle, might as well go in store tomorrow at this rate

  • damn i bought mine last december for $276 price match from Officeworks…
but its worth it… good device…

  • Wanted to buy it but ummm… the site doesn't work.

  • Having second thoughts about the Nexus 7.

    http://androidandme.com/2013/06/opinions/one-year-later-the-…

Issues with the flash memory dying?

    • I have the 32GB Wi-Fi version for about 5 months so far and works like a dream.

There's probably some issue there with memory, but haven't experienced it yet. I hope I don't.

  • The 8" screen is the sweet spot as the 7" screen is a bit small for browsing. Good price if you don't mind the screen though.

  • Gone! That didnt last long.was a good price.

  • I'm not going to be dick-tated to which browser I want to use!

  • Thanks OP, I managed to order via Click & Collect last night and got a email confirmation on the reservation. Does that actually guarantee that I'll be able to get the N7? Or can they just throw out the order as they please, if they're out of stock?

    • The banner advertising the deal actually states that "Click and Collect" is not available for the item. Nevertheless if they have actually put one aside for you then you need to collect it TODAY as they will not honour the price tomorrow. Best to give them a ring.

  • Got one in store, finally…

  • getting a 404 error, and can't find it doing a search in dse.com.au

    • That means no price match can be done in OW… Heart-breaking news for numbers of OzBers

  • strange, because it still appears as a banner on the DSE home page

  • now showing out of stock

  • Thanks to poster for this one. DSE site works OK for me in Internet Explorer. Officeworks price matched this morning on presentation of a printout of DSE offer.

  • Price matched at OW. Paid with ING.

    $179.60 each.

    Very happy.

    • -1

Can you please post the receipt ?

      • It was $199 - the 5% price match at Office Works = $189.05 ea on the receipt. The further 5% doesn't appear on the receipt, it gets refunded by ING when you use their Orange Everyday card.

        • ING 5% is only for purchases up to $100?

        • Make 2 x payments, none greater than $99. No problem at Officeworks.

  • I bought from from OW a few days ago for $258. Any chance i can go there claim back the difference? What is there policy of returning the devices?

  • Can i buy another 2 then use the old receipt to return the 2 new ones? :D

    • Let us know how you go…..

  • Just got back with two, price matched with 5% discount at Office Works, thanks

  • +1

DSE - back in stock (home delivery only)

  • -1

Price remains $199 after daily deal finished

    Is this the new price?

Please edit title to include $5 delivery

  • Just ordered one, $199 and free home delivery. Tried to order one yesterday but out of stock, visited two shops each only had ex demo. Happy now.
    Its hidden here: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tablets-accessories/asus-nexus-7…

  • -1

Really tempted to get one but have no faith in the DSE website, hmm…

  • -2

has this deal expired? i'm adding it to the cart but it's not showing up.

  • +1

Went in to OW today to price match, assistant looks at the DSE site, sees $199 and say no problem. Went to get them, comes back with a printout of an internal email telling them the price is a glitch on the DSE website. I tried to call their bluff, but sure enough, when you clicked on the buy button, up popped a screen saying $269!!

Yet again, DSEs website claims another victim…

  • got mine delivered today. The bloody thing won't turn on. Tried every trick in the book already.

    not happy.

    • Have you tried this
plug in your wall charger, immediately press the power and volume down buttons.

Press it for ~20-30 seconds and see if you can get to the bootloader screen.

      • tried it mate.. but nothing works. : (

  • Got mine for $189 after pricematch. Thanks OP. Sold unused 16Gb one for $180.

PS. Now trying to cancel the DSE one I purchased online. 3 phone calls and two emails and STILL it is showing as processing.

  • Anyone who bought more than one but doesn't need, can sell to me.

  • I would have considering how hard the order was to cancel.
