Free iOS WhosCall- Reverse Number Search (Previously $0.99) [US iTunes Accounts ONLY]

101

Description

WhosCall is the leading app for reverse Number Search, with a global number database of over 600 million entries.
IMPORTANT
1. WhosCall iOS does not have Caller ID and blocking features for incoming calls.

Features:
1. Reverse Lookup: Look up info on numbers from our global database of over 600 million entries.
2. Call Guard Database: Download our database of top spam numbers in a country. This will create a custom list in your Contacts with warning labels, which will serve to alert you when they call.
3. Call Guard List: Create your own list and get early warning when numbers from this list tries to call you.

**WhosCall iOS has slightly different features from other platforms:

Number Identification: Please enter unknown numbers into our number search feature to look up numbers.
Blocking: Currently we recommend using the Apple “Do not disturb” feature.
Contact labels: We give you the option to enable specific "phone number" labels or address book generic "other" labels. The Call Guard Database downloads top spam numbers into a custom list in your contacts, while adding labels to serve as warning when they call. However, these labels will still remain even if you delete the top spam numbers from your Contacts. This might cause inconveniences if you labels to organize Contacts.

Thanks , got it using my US itunes account

  • This is an advertisement. It's a new app released Jun 07 2013.

    • +2

It was $0.99 when it was released. It has now been updated to v1.1 and the price has dropped to $0. If it had been free from release generally these don't get published.

    • An ad for a service you can't even get in Australia, what is the point of this 'deal'?

  • I actually thought reverse number search was illegal in Australia (vaguely remember someone getting into trouble over distributing a CD years back where the database was plain text and could be searched by number).

    • I recall that was a copyright dispute, the phone book company (Sensis?) sued for copyright infringement.

Probably not so much for the actual "infringement". If there is more than one supplier of phone books, companies who advertise in phone books would then have to choose which phone book to advertise in. Less advertising revenue for the incumbent in this situation, so the incumbent fights to keep the situation as a monopoly.

      • Yes, you're right. Sensis claimed ownership of the content (ie: the names, addresses and telephone numbers) and went after whoever it was for using that, not for providing reverse lookups per se.

This app concerns me a bit. It's international… where are they getting the names to cross reference phone numbers? I wonder if it harvests address books from every iDevice it's installed on…

Or you could just use http://www.reverseaustralia.com as this is where the app points to. But better have an app do it all for you.

    • Or you could just use…

It doesn't work very well - just put in our number that we've had for a number of years and it came up as someone else.

What is the point of posting a "deal" in an Australian forum that can't be bought using an Australian itunes account?

    • Because true OzBargainers have US iTunes accounts. And VPNs to access US-only media. And because free is free.

  • not free on US App store anymore.
