Fitness First Macquarie - Join before Monday to Get First 3 Weeks Free

10

A receptionist at Fitness First Macquarie Centre just told me that anyone joining by Monday 22nd July could get below additional offers than usual.

  • No joining fee
  • First 3 weeks free
  • Option of choosing month on month or annual plans at reduced rates.

If you are in a thought of joining fitness first maybe you could use this opportunity and save a $200 approx. I am using the gym for last couple of weeks and so far its great.

Typo in the heading, should read "Finance First".

    • The spiel seems to be fitness related, not finance. Confused.

The company has a well established and long-standing reputation for being infinitely more interested in customer's money than in their health and fitness. Lots of complaints, regular coverage on A Current Affair and Today Tonight. Lots of complaints on consumer web sites. Difficult to cancel membership. Continued direct-debit deductions from bank accounts after membership cancellation. High pressure sales. General dodginess. There's nothing 'fitness' about this company, it's all about finance.

You'd be a fool to give this company access to your bank account. You'd need to open a new bank account specifically for them, and only put the money in there that you want them to take.

Ahh I see, I thought you were somehow linking it to finances because it was "Macquarie", not because of the reasons you've explained.

        • Can't we just use it for 3 weeks and leave? That would be nice :) The equipment must be better than my downstairs gym :)

  • Even if it's 1 year for free, fitness first no thanks - they'll eventually get to your personal finance one way or the other! ;)

You could open an ING account, leave it empty of funds, and give finance first at when you sign up.

      • Even if i did, I would probably lose more money from FF than lose 'weight'.

  • My wife had loads of problems with this lot. no dice!

  • I would rather have my eyes gouged out with a spoon than go back to fitness first and their high pressure signup tactics

  • FF have recently been hiking current member prices to bring it close to their retail prices giving discount depending on how long you have been a member with them. They have really made a lot of people mad at them as price hike range from as low as 1% to as high as over 30%. If you have other gym options, I wouldn't join them as they have even hiked up people on foundation membership where many were told that the prices will not increase for the life of the membership. Avoid if you can, unless there are no better gym options in your area.

    • I have recently had this happen to me (increase of 25%) and I have thought long and hard about cancelling my membership. Maybe I would if I had an option that suited my needs. When it comes down to it I can't help but admire a company that has the guts to do what they are doing. In principal, I completely agree with their new policy, what remains to be seen is whether it will stay that way, if Gym Managers are given the option to discount I doubt it. Any insiders that can give an employee perspective?

Save $200 eh? Lawl… by my calcs you'd only be saving around $15.95 a week for 3 weeks - a grand total of $48. A saving? Yes. $200 worth? Nope. Don't even talk to me about saving the "joining fee". Come clean- you're really "Jane", aren't you? ;-)

  • Did she mention that they will not wave the constant annoyance and difficulties to cancel the membership?

  • I had tons of problem with Fitness First. They continued to draw money from my bank account 2 months after I cancelled my membership. I had to write in 3-4 times to the Fitness First HQ and threatened to go to ACCC in order to get my refund back. I think the company is absolutely doggy and over-price. I am with Anytime Fitness now and so far didnt have any issues even though the quality of individual gym (fitting, machines and etc) varies.
