Is there a popular website that I can post complaints to a business?

Kind of a name and shame website but for all businesses not just food.
I know the internet have everything and i know ozbargainers know of websites like this!

Nothing dedicated that I can think of but the whirlpool forums tend to rank highly on page rankings. But as I'm assuming you're looking for something like www.productreview.com.au but for businesses I can't think of anything

  • Something like this:
    http://www.tradeleaks.com/

Combined with Facebook to get some traffic/votes for article might be good? I saw this site for the first time yesterday, someone submits an article, then people can verify it, or say it's rubbish… I'm not sure how viable it is, as the article that led me there has since been removed… But it might be worth a look.

    • check that, this is the article that led me to the site…

Just had a quick look, seems like a very messy website o.0

Thanks for trying, we need more ozbargainers' brain power!

      • Maybe try womf.com?

  • What I have noticed is a very limited amount of websites with limited amount of discussion in various business types.

So far whirlpool offers the largest insight into the various business complaints.

Hint hint* Ozbargain should take up this opportunity to make their own, since making a complaint for under deliver of a service/product is part of an Ozbargain heart.

    • There are actually plenty of people complaining on OzBargain already. Out of the top 5 discussion topics at the moment, 2 are complains (CPL Online and DickSmith). Whingepool overflow?

Just need to be very careful with what you say online as well and be prepared to actually backup what you say.

      • I mean a database instead of forums

        • I wouldn't like to see that on ozbargain. We want businesses to like this website,to post bargains themselves and see it as a business opportunity.

I bet it would alienate a lot of businesses by keeping a prominent database of whingers.

The forum serves the proposed purpose already, but in a much more even and transparent way.

Imagine the lawyers bills for Scotty when companies decided to challenge the content of this database! From what I have read in the past, the forum isn't free from this problem either.

I'm against the idea of having a database for complaints as well, given that it can be an avenue for people with bad intents to have a go at businesses. E.g. I might be a competitor to business A and I might post allegations about business A onto the database…etc. It gets pretty messy pretty quickly.

Also, it's best to take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Be aware of non-response bias, those who are loudest tend to be those who have a complaint to make. A business may have thousands of happy customers who don't say much, but a few complaints which could ruin their reputation.

The best way to protect yourself is to be vigilant and aware, of course taking into account other people's experiences, but also understanding that everybody's experiences are different and not everything said is true.

The best site for both positive and negative comments in Australia is www.womo.com.au I use it all the time to get recommendations of businesses and tradespeople and advice of who to stay clear of!

  • Just checked this site and I like it.
Was looking for something like this.

I used to post on WOMO website a lot, was one of their top contributors in Melbourne at one stage.
But whenever I posted negative comment on one of the companies that participate in their "Happy customers program" it will end up getting deleted. Now I don't bother posting on that website anymore.

  • That surprises me as when I post on The Happy Customer program with a negative comment I have been asked to support my displeasure with evidence that I had purchased from the company. This I am told is to protect businesses from being unfairly targeted by competition. After submitting my evidence my complaints or negative comments always got published.

    • After looking at how WOMO works I'll say that they have indeed have some good formulas however verifying negative reviews do look like quite a laborious process for both WOMO and the submitter. Still, far saner than the open-to-all approaches that Whirlpool and we have here.

They also claim that only 7% of reviews are negative — difficult to believe (based on our experience here) but probably due to their strict review process. After all their business model is to get the service business to subscribe and pay monthly fee.

  • I like http://estorereview.com.au/

you post reviews of online businesses and earn points to redeem on gift cards, movie tickets, etc.

If you sign up and enter my email as a referral, you get a bonus 100 points, just message me if you'd like :)

  • Hi all, Fiona from WOMO.com.au here (previously called WOMOW - but I can't figure out how to change the name here!)
WOMO is Australia's largest reviews website for local businesses and yes, we do our utmost to ensure the integrity of the reviews (both positive and negative). We do have a paid program for businesses, but their reviews are treated the same way as all other businesses - generally businesses that pride themselves on their service levels participate in this as it allows them to have additional information on their page and take a more proactive approach to online feedback. (However there have been cases where we've had to boot businesses off this program too: http://wordofmouthonline.wordpress.com/2012/11/13/womo-rejec…)

We have over 300,000 reviews - many for tradies, beauty & personal care services, health practitioners, shops, restaurants, etc etc.

We also have a Member Rewards program where people can earn iTunes, Woolworths or Westfield vouchers for reviewing businesses: http://www.womo.com.au/rewards/

If you have any queries about how it all works, feel free to ask them here, post on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WOMOcomau) or contact us directly.

    • Hi Fiona — Please email support at ozbargain (or use the contact form) to request a name change.

  • complaints via twitter and facebook have been known to be resolved quickly - the power of social media :)

  • What we need is a site (new or existing) that the major players in the online community like whirlpool can unitedly get behind and support, and encourage all their users to support.

I think the main problem at the moment is that we have lots of sites available for this, but not one standout one that everybody knows about and uses. This fragmentation means none of these sites are as powerful as they could be.

If there was one site that became the most popular that everybody used and had a huge viewer base, it would quickly become a powerful tool and businesses would maybe start to care enough about it to resolve problems.

    • This is what I have been saying Ozbargain should do, since they have large and growing user base.
I just cant get my thoughts out correctly by typing here.
Ozbargainers seek for bargains but at the same time, if we feel hard done by after a spending money, people will pay attention before spending their money.

From the responses above I think a lot of users disagree with me, but haven't voice a solution/system that incorporate what you have said Riczter.
