  • The price is $1319 before cashback? How can you get it $1099?

  • I guess it is $1119 after cashback.

  • The "not so old" series W1070 is around $960 so this is a good deal

The W1080ST is basically the same as the W1070 ….. BUT …. it is a SHORT THROW projector and has very limited lense shift. You need to place the projector very close to the screen.

The W1070 can be had for under $900.

      • The W1070 can be had for under $900.

Any links to where its that price please?

      • I thought ST is a plus? I know so little about projectors though

        • +1

It depends on your situation, if you want to ceiling mount but a fan or light is in the way for the W1070 then the W1080ST may make it possible. If you want to put the projector on a coffee table in front of your viewing position again the ST may be the solution. It really depends on your circumstance, i.e. screen size and room size etc.

        • Thanks Red,
What about the lense shifts, what do they do?

        • +1

The vertical lense shift is a screw on the 'top' of the projector that moves the image up and down. It compensates for a less than optimum mounting position. So, if the projector was ceiling mounted and the projected image was slightly off the screen, i.e. too high, then it can be moved down to fit. Similarly, if the projector was sitting on a coffee table and the image was off the bottom of the screen then it could be adjusted up to fit.

      • @Red, what is the best screen for this type of projector?

        • +3

One that fits your room and the throw of the projector, check out Benq's calculator online. (said tongue in cheek).

If you are asking the type of screen, then under darkened conditions any screen will give an excellent result i.e. a gain of 1.0 is fine. If you have ambient light (i.e. daylight)then you need to look for a better gain screen. Some testify that a gray screen works well. DO NOT use a bead screen, flat white or gray is best due to the high intensity of the projector's light.

      • Wait - so it's short throw only? You can't just adjust it to have a more normal throw?

        • NO that is what the ST means 'short throw'. Even the W1070 is a relatively short throw. My projector (W1070) is only 3.5m from the screen and it can fill a 120" (diagonal measurement) screen. Most other projectors would need to be much further back to do this. Both Benq projectors do have a zoom function (manual and digital) on the lense but you need to locate the projector appropriately.

  • Looks like they bumped up the price by $20. Still a good deal, I bought one myself, and it was delivered in 2 days. I received the cashback even before it being delivered.

  • Aahh if the rep can read this, if only you can give us the same price as before..

  • +2
  • There is now a better deal available for the W1070. It is a price match from Officeworks of $876.85 for Melbourne ($906 plus post - 5%).
