Can you do a 7/30days free trial for android ?

    • +1

      Yes, me too, please!

    • +1 for trial

    • +16

Thanks for the interest so quickly!
It's tricky on android because if I make the app free it gets locked permanently to that setting. What I might be able to do is upload a free duplicate and then just pull it down when the trial period is over. Everybody who got the trial would be able to keep using it forever, the only downside is they'd have to buy the real version to get any updates. I'll have a look into this now.

If anybody has any other ideas please post them, I've had a look around for options but there may be a better way I'm not aware of.

      • +1

The duplicate method is what app gratis and appoftheday do. Should work fine.

      • Can't you put a trial version up that lasts like 30 days or something, and then have a field in it where people can put a code which makes it the full version? That way after this is over people can still trial your app, plus those on android who got this version will also get the updates.

        • +1

That's a great idea but I'd need some sort of server to validate the codes (check they were only used once etc) and that's a bit beyond my skill level. I'm really hoping that in the future google will allow developers to switch apps between free and paid, it seems to work for apple and would make things much easier for us devs. :)

        • But surely apple would have patented the crap out of switching between free and paid on an AppStore ;)

  • +4

Can anyone tell me if I can get an app to tell me if it's worth my time to get an app to tell me if tasks are worth my time? pretty please?

    • +9

I think the app would tell you that, as it costs nothing, you would need to spend no time working to pay for it. Ergo, it is worth your time.

      • seems legit! thanks for putting the thought into it! :)

    • There's no app for that, but a shitload of "free advise" from your fellow ozbargians.

      • "free advice"

        • +1

          Case in point?

        • +1

          Your spelling.

        • See, this advice is free.

    • -1

I'm confused scratches head until its raw and bloody

  • Whats the highest salary the app will take?

    • +1

      Hmm, not sure. Maybe:

Free version up to 300k p.a.

      Premium version from 300k - 99999999k p.a.

      /s

    • +5

I think the technical limit is 9007199254740992, it's also going to depend on what values are in the other fields though :)

      • Then this app will not work for me ;)

  • +4

Does the app also have a comparison of how long you have to work to pay for something:

    1) If you also have kids
    2) Without kids

PS. I love my kids but they do hinder my self-indulgent purchasing power somewhat!

    • +1

If you can estimate what percentage of your income goes to them you could put that number in the tax field. Would also work for partners. :)

      • +1

Family and partner tax, I like how you cut through the red tape and say it how it is! I hope my partner and family don't see this post :P

So to clarify, is there no way to go below 99c? I don't care about free, I'll buy it but I'm just curious if 99c it lets you go without the hassle mentioned above?

        • +1

Yea, 99c is the minimum app price I can set for a paid app, I guess if we were allowed to go any lower it would be a race to the bottom :)
And yep the 99c version is the full version so that's the one that will get any updates I release in the future. The free trial version will hopefully be in the play store tomorrow and will be identical in terms of features, but I'll have no way to update it once the trial is over.

      • +2

        That's easy: kids+wife=100%

        • lucky.

          mine are 110%

  • What a great idea. Thanks!

  • +1

6.7Mb for this app? I guess one of the future improvement is to make it lighter.

    • +1

Thanks, I'm a little puzzled myself as to why it's so big, the android version came out at 452k.
I'll definitely look into making it smaller for for v1.1.

  • +1

I like the idea of this… Future enhancements could be to block catchoftheday and clickfrenzy crap, as they are worth nobodies time :P
Also, big + for the rep being helpful!

  • +1

Rep, is there a way to set the default pay per day/week/fortnight/month, rather than hour?

    • +2

Not currently I'm afraid, but it sounds like a great thing to add to v1.1. Thanks!

  • +2

Would be great if it could use the current tax rates. A single tax rate is pretty useless since Australia has a progressive tax system for earnings

    • +1

With the ability of being able to change the currency symbol, I dare say the rep might be looking at a market beyond Australia… In which case you can't automate the tax without having overrides, etc.
Also, the disclaimer would be too lengthy, IMHO - having too many "tax is only an estimate" stuff in there.

  • Here's some succession

-pay per week or per year..since ppl might not know there hours rate

-Make a item name field, so ppl can label that item and then have it store in a history section, so we can look at a few items previously entered.

  • A super simple app that just makes it slightly easier than using a calculator, but honestly I wouldn't pay for it.

  • Rep, I'm on SGS2. After I have filled up the last input field, the screen keeps scrolling back to field in focus (tax) even if I try to scroll to the top where the "Go" button lies. So I have to tap elsewhere just so there are no fields in focus and to scroll up. Needs a fix.

    Great first app.

    • I'm definitely aware of some field focus issues on android but I haven't seen this yet so I'll add it to the bug list. If you get a chance could you post your android version, I'll see if I can reproduce the problem.
      Thanks for the feedback!

      • Its 4.0.3, kernel version 3.0.15

        • thanks!

      • feature request:

        • if i put the $ to my mortage instead of some widget on ozbargain, how many days earlier will I own my house? (simple calc assuming fixed interest rate and remaining length of mortgage.)
$50 saved now can be $150 off the end.

        • if I had bought Apple shares instead of the stupid car stereo when I was a kid, where would I be retired to now?

  • Not compatible with my session XE. I suggest you use a lower api level

    • I had a pretty bad performance test on an old huawai phone so I was worried about user experience with older devices, but now that I think about it the free app is a great chance to test some more on similar devices. I'll get an updated version with a lower api level out asap, it should be in google play tomorrow at the latest.

      • I doubt my dual core HTC will have a problem with this app. At least it shouldn't.

        • I agree, and looks like the updated version has hit the play store so you're good to go!

  • +1

Just a friendly reminder to everybody to please review the app :).
Reviews lets developers know that an app is appreciated and that it's worth their time (excuse the pun!) to keep improving it. It also encourages other users to download the app which further increases the chances the app being maintained. This is true of all apps by the way, so if you have apps from other developers on your devices please show them some love too :)

    • -1

The app told me it's not worth my time to review

  • Cool idea! Idea for development: Worth my money, same idea, just working it back… i.e if I take a 10 minute smoke break, how much did I make :)

    • +1

      Or…
If you have 6 smoke breaks, how much harder do your colleagues have to work to make up for it :P

  • rozifus cool idea :)
