  A few months ago I travelled to Europe and used this app on Samsung GS2 phone.
  The app did not work in offline mode. GPS location could not be locked.
  It's useless after trying many times (left the app running for an hour but could not get current location) so I gave up.

      Maybe it works better on iphone than android?
      @easternculture try at a completely different location like … different country. If you turn off 3G & wifi on your daily route, the app works fine.
      I did test the app when I was at home before travelling. It worked no problem, got accurate location so I guess the phone has some kind of cache gps location.
      When I was in Europe, at the end of each destination, after I used wifi on the phone for a while, the app picked up location but I travelled to a different city/country on the next day.
      App also did not work on galaxy tab 7.7. Offline maps were downloaded and prepared carefully before travelling :D

    I used it get around Shanghai using iPhone 5 without any issues whatsoever (in offline mode). Did a self-guided walking tour using this for direction and worked flawlessly.

    I've used it successfully in London.
    Sure the mapping isn't anywhere near google maps… but perfectly adequate for getting around.

    Great app, just remember to download the maps you need before you travel.

    The reason why is because with data turned off you're not getting Assisted GPS (i.e. rough location by network) being sent. Trust me, turn off all data on an iphone for instance and watch it take forever outdoors even in getting a GPS lock. The GPS not locking is an issue with the phone not being able to obtain a lock, not the software.

    I have this on android and it's alright, the only issue is searching is an issue and no navigation. Apart from Tom Tom and Route 66 there's not much else I'd recommend for offline maps navigation. Route 66 I find is pretty good with most countries, unlike Tom Tom where you have to buy map packs.

        If your AGPS data has been updated recently then it will take a shorter period, try no data for a week and then find location.

  Used in SE asia (singapore, malaysia, cambodia etc.) without 3G or cellular and worked like a charm. Make sure you download the maps before you leave. You can get off the beaten track without fear of getting lost.

  I also used this app last month on my iPhone 5 whilst overseas and it worked really well. My phone had cellular (Australian sim) on but data off and had no problems with GPS locks.

  The information it provided was useful and relevant and the searchable offline maps accurate.

  Worth paying for so grab it whilst it is free.

    Uses openstreetmap.org for it's maps. You can see that large chunks of street names are missing including in major cities. Also for offline maps it's pretty slow to render on a 4s (not a major concern). Compared to Here maps on Windows phone for offline viewing…. well there is no comparison. I'm a bit disappointed with this app but it will fine for its intended purpose depending on where you travel.
