also comes with lycra top, lyrca shorts and clip in pedals. seems like a good deal to me

  • I have only ever had cheapo <$200 bikes. Would riding this compared to the cheap bikes I had would be like night and day?

    • +4

      yes

I'm sure you can find something in your room to convert it from a <$200 bike to a >$1200 bike. Seriously, you should really live up to your name.

      • Paint it red… red things go faster.. :P

    • On the bright side, you would get more exercise riding the $200 bike.

  • +5

Not sure if it's a good deal.
You can get a carbon bike that is lighter and$300 cheaper here. Not complete 105, but looks like a good start. They claim lighter than 8kg
    http://www.cyclingexpress.com/?lang=en&p=productDia&proId=22…
Also if you're in Victoria, graysonline have a few Colnago Ace 105 which are $1289 + commission, but probably both better bikes than the Cell one.

    • +4

But the problem is that you're comparing cell to cycling express. Cell are great with feedback and following up your order. Their shipping is a day or two.

Cycling express is shocking, teenagers run the shop, emails are not returned and their shipping is a month long process. I wouldn't bother with cycling express. Too many headaches and cost me too 3 months of my life getting it sorted

  • Check out some of the Polygon bikes at bicyclesonline.com.au These are all full 105:
    2012 Polygon Helios C500
    Polygon Helios 500
    Polygon Helios C4.0

The Helios 500 weights in at a scant 8.1kg. The Helios 500 also has better wheels. At around 1k you'll also have cash left over to get pedals/lycra, etc..

Also Polygon is a huge global brand. They have professional race teams and make alot of bikes. Check them out: http://www.polygoncycle.com/

You could also check out: http://www.velobuild.com/ if you want to put together a full carbon bike.
    Good luck.

The polygon bikes are not full carbon.

    • IMHO having ridden aluminium bikes with carbon forks and full carbon bikes you notice a big difference at the end of a ride with the full carbon because it absorbs much more of the vibration from the roads surface. For my money I would spend a little more on the carbon, your ass and arms will thank you.

      • NOTE: Carbon is supposed to make the bike lightweight. 8.56kg advertised here for a carbon bike isn't lighweight. Plenty of aluminium bikes are that weight or lighter,

In fact, an aluminium bike with carbon forks, rear stays and seat post gets you the shock absorption plus is more durable long term as the frame won't crack like a carbon bike can.

        • +2

You are both right. I have both. Carbon is a smoother ride but i would only ride it on nice roads (long weekend rides). My aluminium bike gets ridden more and i even ride it to work.

So carbon would be a nicer ride (and better for you butt), but the aluminium bike can take more of a beating and cope with bad roads better. IMHO.

    • +1

Polygon C500 is not full carbon, only the fork is (base on its spec). Its full 105 gear
Polygon C4.0 is similar with C500, only the fork is carbon. It is not full 105 gear.

Please compare apple with apple. :)

Anyway, happy cycling! ITs good price.

It's pleasing to see that not all OzBargainers have above average intellects

tell you what, if you can cycle at a constant 60km/h for at least 20km, i'll buy you this bike.

    • +5

ah, the old-fashioned cycle hater with the IQ of a possum, great!

      • +8

        don't insult possum please

    • +5

You wouldn't have this problem if your car didn't take up the whole lane…

FYI: we jump on the road because pedestrians are too slow on the sidewalks.

      • +1

No, we jump on the road to piss people like gotbean off :P

        • +5

No, we jump on the road to piss people

why am I not surprised by that remark…

you sound like one of the minority of cyclists that give all of them a bad name.

        • Why is jv up on votes?

ha ha ha. look at all these haters. do not you realise how bloody dangerous it is? i am worried enough as it is zipping around on my dirtbike. i couldn't imagine going the speed of a grandma blocking up a lane like cyclists do.

also struggling to climb a hill swerving all over the lane? seriously?

    • +5

Start cycling, it'll help your blood pressure

      • swimming is actually a much better exercise for reducing blood pressure, and is much better for your joints.

        • dirt bikes are not meant for the road either, get off my bitumen!

ps. road bikes are designed to ride on roads, now who doesn't belong?

        • well to be honest, it's a dual purpose bike - for road and dirt. registered and insured.

road bikes are for road, i am not arguing that. my issue is that riders travel at 1/4 of the speed of cars causing very dangerous situations. and two or three abreast? on brisbane roads, seriously?

        • +1

like i said in my first comment, tell me if you can cycle at motor vehicle pace for the length of an entire commute and see what you complain about first.

there's reasons even fit cyclists that CAN ride near speed limit for extended periods of time, simply don't.

          • blind motorists that turn in front of a fast travelling bicycle (even with strong headlight clearly visible during day), stop into bicycle lanes when coming out of back streets onto main roads, random pieces of glass that aren't visible at high speeds etc.
          • most bikes don't have disc brakes, v-brakes are like stopping a train at 60km/h
          • two abreast is usually legal, and three abreast is possible if overtaking, or maybe they are just two rows of two with one behind in a different position making you THINK it's three abreast. alternatively, they could just be claiming the lane for safety (motorists can try unsafe passing manoeuvres even with the smallest gap. sometimes this is necessary despite being against the law)

and before you say "oh, maybe you should just keep left then", we do need to turn right sometimes (cutting across lanes of fast moving traffic to do so (legally), and sometimes entering roundabouts, if we don't claim the lane we simply get pushed off the road (with literally nowhere to go but the kerb).

so instead of continually preaching your hatred for all things pedal powered (obviously you don't have a problem with two wheels), maybe you should put some consideration into something that is actually very similar to some of the dangers a lot of motorcycle riders face ie. poor road conditions, invisibility, manhole covers, glass and other obstacles, vulnerability against serious injury when colliding with other vehicles and around corners in poor road surface, rain, oil etc.

or maybe you forgot all that amidst all the arrogance and specific hate mongering in your comments.

    • Well trolled sir, well trolled..

  • Campagnolo where are you?

    • Probably out sacking some poor sods wallet?

      But alas, Dat carbon fibre!

  • I am 198 cm. what size bike would I need?

  • +2

Guys you are arguing over a kg which makes no difference for the amatuer and if you were pro, you wouldnt be buying a $1,200 carbon bike. The bargain here is full carbon with 105 groupset at this price from a reputable Aussie retailer. It's a no brainer for me. Unfortunately my stable is full but would love to add this to it.

    • +2

Trick is to take a big dump before any ride. 1kg weight issue sorted!

105 is a great groupset that will last a long time.

  • No mention of Warranty, id be wanting a decent warranty on a carbon framed bike.
