Please explain. Unknown anagrams. What does "air-bags business" have to do with discounted rice?

No offence but this post needed more effort :^)

  • depends if its Australian grown.

The Sunrice brand which is product of Thailand is terrible!!!

I can't understand the logic of just being "Australian Grown" is a testament to a good product.Sure it helps the Aussie farmers, jobs, economy and all, but how could you say Australian grown rice is better?
Of course this product is not a premium one, that's beside the point. Rice been cultivated in Asian countries for thousands of years and they have hundreds of different varieties. There are plenty of premium quality rice grown in Asian countries that Aussie farmers don't/can't grow here.

      • Taste test from an experienced rice eater :P (Asian).

Ask anyone who eats rice regularly, the Thai Sunrice is dry, tasteless (rice has a sweet aftertaste) and has a poorer texture.

Agreed. There is a difference between the good stuff and the poor/bad quality rice. Taste. Cooking time. Texture.Hence the price difference between the brands (mum pointed out the good stuff to be and i tend to agree based on experience - im asian as well)

just be careful - if its old rice, it will be terrible.
you want to make sure you get the "new" crop

honestly , My family started to eat this brand of rice almost 4-5 yrs ago. But probably since a year ago, the quality of this green label rice drop significantly. Unfortunately we brought 3 bags of 10 kg , end up we cooked them in congee . Stay away for this particular rice for long. I have talked to one of the Asian supermarket store and because of the bad comments from many customer, they are no longer sell in store. and you will see this type of rice always at the lower range of price. If you want some "normal" rice , stay away this. Above is my personal experience.

    • If its imported (Thailand) this is true. If its the Australian grown version its the original quality.

PS: I have nothing against Thai rice, its just this brand of Thai rice which is of issue. There are plenty of great Thai rice brands such as Royal Umbrella, etc.

If it is of any interest to anyone, I started eating brown rice because of its health benefit but found it too expensive to justify. Woolworths has brown rice on sale at the moment (online only not in store) 2kg medium grain for $4. Double the price for white rice but definitely worth getting if you are after brown rice. Sign up for a new account and you will get free delivery for order more than $30.

      • Thanks; interesting read. Having said that, I still prefer brown rice :P

    • brown rice because of its health benefit

I don't think this is the place to discriminate rice.

We should treat all rice equally !!!

    • Is brown rice same as the red ? (excuse my ignorance)
What we do sometimes is have white rice but mix a bit of red rice in it (eg. 1/3 portion)
Works out yummy and doesn't hurt the wallet as much :P

  • Not strongly recommend to buy this brand even it's $5. I have tried last year, if u steam it and eat it right away, the taste is normal but if u leave it for 1 day, the rice will begin soak and smell. I'm not sure this product is from Thailand or not but I live in Thailand and I never heard of this brand until I came here.

    • I'm not sure this product is from Thailand or not

      http://www.sunrice.com.au/?nodeId=295

It says on their website it is grown in the Riverina region of Eastern Australia…

      • Incorrect, not all of Sunrice's crop is from Australia anymore. They started importing from Thailand during/after the drought they had in that region. It's only then the quality issues started occurring.

    • Not 100% correct I found that their rice changed in every batch, this batch seem OK (bought some a few days ago from Harris Farm for the same price)

So last year no good doesn't mean this time no good, I agreed I also bought some no good before.

  • I bought this over the weekend. It is Australian grown variety and tastes good enough. Offcourse it isn't as good as Indian Basmati rice.. But for just 1$/kg it is good enough quality.. Happy with the purchase.
