Acer Iconia A510 10.1 16GB WIFI Tablet $178 - in Store Only

900

I saw this in store on a flyer and didnt think much of it.

Then went home to check and its on the website for the listed price.
Seems like a decent deal with the longer life battery and has 4.1 JB update as well.
Let me know what others think

Check online for store stock and make a call before heading out … Just my suggestion

  • Any stock in WA?

    • +4

You have to ring and find out yourself..

    • Just picked one up in the city.

      • In the city? Which city?

        • Being that I am replying to a post about WA. Perth. Specifically EB hay st.

    • Not at EB Belmont

  • Quad processor and dual cameras…. :-)

    No 3g no GPS………:-(

    • 10" is a bit big for a GPS IMO.

      • Interesting …. I would have said perfect size! Might be a bit big for a phone but tablets make useful alternative domestic phones to the usual landline + wireless setup if you have a cheap ISP plan (like I do!!)_

        • +3

I have one of these and it DOES have GPS…i'm looking at it right now!
Definitely no 3G but it supports a dongle

    • Got one been looking for cheap tablet. It has gps btw.

    • +2

      http://www.cnet.com.au/acer-iconia-a510_specs-339338950.htm

There is GPS. No modern tablet or phone that doesn't comes with a GPS these days(except iPad)

DUDE! read peoples comments, PEOPLE WHO HAVE ONE, I have one in my HAND! the back of the box:

        • GPS

        black and white.

        • +8

That's why he said "There is GPS." ;P

        • Wut

        • voting on my own comments is not allowed… I want to give myself a - for not reading that properly…

      • kindle fire hd has no gps, just wifi location. But 1920x1200 pixels.
Its only the second most popular tablet after the ipad.
And Amazon have locked it so you cannot even use an external bluetooth gps without rooting it :(

  • No Stock, no deal. But thanks OP.

    • Where?

  • I was told non in Sydney CBD. however maybe some at Chatswood chase.

price match at OW? Acer Iconia W510 Tablet ACITW5106B

    • lol. This one is A510.
I will be surprised, if someone will be able to price match the current price for a W510. Will be a very good price.

    • This is an A510 not W510.

  • +1

I have one these. They are brilliant. Don't get it for the cameras though.

One gotcha to look out for is the A510 uses a 12V charger. This wasn't a problem for me though. The supplied charger is fine and car chargers are easy to find on eBay.

  • +1

Is it worthit?? Good speed not too laggy???

    • It's very good for the price, not laggy at all. I have one. Not sure why GPS isn't listed in the specs here but mine is an A510 and definitely has GPS built in.
As 0xFFFF said, the only thing you need to be careful of is if you want to buy an extra charger, it must be 12v but you can easily find these.

    • +1

dont know why you got negged for asking a question, i just got one also said GPS on the box…now i have two acers, (500 and 510) - hoping the carger will be interchangeable :D

Not sure about macarthur Square which is where i originally saw the sign

  • SCORE! THANKS OP, i got the last one in northlands…in my bag as i type :D

    • Northlands, LOL. I grew up in the area, funny how Northland morphed into Northlands over the years. Im blaming my Greek and Italian mates, "Lets head off to Northlands Mate"

      • yeah somoene else picked on me for saying that too.,..

I grew up in thornbury… then moved out bush, now work right next to it… apple never falls far from the tree…

  • +2

As a flavour to the OzB community, I just rang Mac Square NSW

The rep there just told me there were 2 in stock there

So thats a total fo 3 out there in the Campbelltown/Macarthur region

    • i am off today but i work in the city. i wouldve bought one otherwise, unless they still have it tomorrow.

      • -1

could always ring and ask them to put one asside, I'd assume most stores only had one or two left, id assume they would mostly be gone already…

    • went to campbelltown store at 5:10, none left

  • none @ bankstown

    • none @ roselands

  • +6

Nothing in Adelaide…and no stock either. :P

FYI looks like 32 GB refurbs on ebay are going for 300 bux… nice!

  • Grabbed the last one from Canberra City, thanks Noonoo

    • +10

Nice, I must have been eating lunch about 20 meters away when you grabbed it but I chose food over a bargain. Girl in the store said I missed the last one by 5 minutes.

      Never again stomach, never again

    • Nps buddy

Now its on charge and having a play later!

      • +5

Are you gonna try the tablet too?

  • 2 in-stock at Bribie Island, although I just put one on hold, so 1 left.

Then again, I'm not sure I need it :/ I'll probably cancel.

    • Just looked at it on YouTube, definitely canceling.

      • Why? What's the problem?

      • I had a look on youtube as well
        Same as reviews online.

But the support for roms is pretty impressive.

Not sure what problems you are seeing with it

        • Nah, it wasn't that. It's just the design of it :P

  • BTW congrats on your second awesome deal!

    • Thanks mate, aiming to please :)

  • +2

IMHO it's a good deal for a name brand product. There were a few old reviews and whinges on-line in forums about lagginess and heat but these were reported fixed by the free upgrade to the newer version of Android by everyone who posted.

FWIW, the Acer factory store has the 32GB version for 399 including an extended warranty and accidental breakage insurance. And unlike most of the factory store stuff it's new not refurb. An extra 200+ bucks isn't worth it when you can buy a 32 micro SD for what? $25? But those of us who are clumsy or who have toddlers in the house might find the accidental damage insurance a great deal ;-)

  • +2

no stock in southland, dfo moorabbin, chadstone and swanston street

    • -1

      • you got the northlands, I got the Northcote :D called and put it on hold, the chick was complaining that she had over 50 phone calls asking about stock!

  • +2

No stock northlands, northcote plaza, warrigal, richmond, epping, greensborough, highpoint, eastland, ringwood plaza, altona

    • Victoria

I checked around Melbourne, Docklands etc, Forest Hill, Doncaster etc. None available (only 1 which was on hold already) and overlap with cecchy.

I was told that they'd had the tablets at EB for a month (maybe not at this price).

This morning most of them only had 1 or 2 units left in stock.

One shop hadn't had stock for 2 weeks.

  • anyone tried any stores in brisbane?

    • Yep, just called about 15 stores on the Southside and they are all either sold out or have them on hold.
I was hoping to score 3 for the kids Xmas presents :(

      • +4

If you want that many you will need to negotiate with Broden.

  • Got The Last One In Capalaba. Think There At A Few Around in Brisbane. Had Old Nexus 7 For Same Price

  • -2

This has been on sale at the same price for a few weeks, not sure why everyone is getting excited.

    • +4

Because nobody know if you didn't post it when you saw it.

      • +2

I sometimes don't post things because I get flamed all the time, everyone complains too much

        • +3

That's the problem, you feel like people are trying their hardest to make you feel like your wasting everyones time, so you don't bother.

        • Exactly.

    • I saw it in store a little while ago as well, didn't get too excited back then either. I quite like my Nexus 7, but I might just get this one for my mother in law.

  • Just picked up the only one at Northcote Plaza, Thanks OP

  • No stock at Canberra Center… :( but great deal OP!

  • +3

For anyone in WA, here is the list from EB guys. Good luck :)
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/99740015@N06/9418958321/

  • Just when Ainol pulls its finger out, I will want to be looking at - 2 GB ram, BT & GPS, OTG AND most important 1200p ips ALL on the latest installment *Android OS. Novo ten < $260 worth.

  • Keep in mind the stock shown got updated the day before, so anything sold today hasn't been accounted for on that list.

  • How does this compare with the quad core samsung note 10.1?

  • better deal than the kindle hd 8.9 for 229? I guess the main advantage of the kindle hd is the screen and also the 8.9", which seems to be the sweet spot for tablet screen size

  • Don't look for one at Robina, they had one, right up till 4pm, however now my missus has one. Well spotted OP.

  • +2

Guys, stop calling Swanston st. (Melbourne). Apparently they got 25 calls within last hour or so :P and they don't have any in stock :(

  • -4

    Wish it had GPS

  • -1

Anyone able to tell me if it is dual band wifi? Had a bit of a search and can't find it.

    • With a bit of a (focussed) search - BGN only. The user manual (with full specs) is easy enough to find.

  • got the last one in Sunnybank, thanks OP
