Got mine from Wynnum west, loving it. None left there now. To update to Jelly bean you need to got the acer site http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers and update the firmware via micro SD to "Acer.AV041.A510.RV28RC08.AAP.A" you need to copy the zip file to an SD card and do a button hold procedure to boot into a loader.

Once that is loaded then the JB update will be advertised. Its doesnt go through the standard menu - system update part, it just pops up down the notifications down the bottom. Lovely tablet for the money, best bargain tab buy for last few months I reckon. Though it a bit last gen now the 2013 nexus 7 is out.

When I picked up one of the last 2 tablets from Dockland Melbourne, I was told normally they will keep one on hold until the end of the day. If you know of any store got stock on hold, may try your luck again 1st thing in the morning in case someone has not picked up and the store put it back to sale.

    • Lol…Thats what i did 2mins before closing and managed to get one that a fellow OzB didnt bother pik'n up.

  • Just wonder anyone has problem with updating this tablet to Jelly bean following the method sillyhead mentioned?
I downloaded the update file, followed the instruction and got a laying down green android with red exclamation mark shortly after the screen display "booting recovery kernel image".

    • hmm, I just got a blank SD card, download the file to my home PC and then placed the zip, on the SD card maybe your revision of the tab is different? this guide might help

      http://community.acer.com/t5/Tablets/Acer-iconia-a510-jelly-…

      • Hi sillyhead,
That is the thread I read before attempting to update. My version is also Acer_AV041_A510_RV10RC03_AAP_AU. I downloaded the OS file Acer.AV041.A510.RV28RC08.AAP.AU., copied the update.zip to a 512MB micro SD card. I formatted the card in Windows 7 before copy the zip file over. Could it be the size of the card the issue?

        • Hmm not sure, I am as educated as you are on this. I know the card probably has to be fat32 formatted? Maybe its that, the card is used was a 2gb fat 32. Then put it in and turned on while holding the volume button as per the guide and it loaded it with the android guy with the spinning belly.. Once this new version is on jb will be advertised to the device, No?

        • I remember to have the card format as Fat16. After getting the rom loading screen at begining i got a spinning android for about 2seconds then a belly up android with open door on belly. It will freeze at that stage fr about 10min then reboot into I the old ICS

          dle,
Format your sdcard by going to my computer and right clicking on the sd card- format disk- select type: fat32 (This will erase everything on sd card)
Then once that has finished make sure u have downloaded the " Acer.AV041.A510.RV28RC08.AAP.AU" zip from the acer site (go to support-tablet-iconiaA-A510- O.S- and it is the bottom of the 3 downloaded things)
Once this is downloaded, extract the Acer.AV041.A510.RV28RC08.AAP.AU.zip to your desktop and then only copy the update.zip to your sd card. Turn off the device, insert the microSD card and then hold volume up button, then hold power button at the same time until you feel a vibration. Let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume up button until a little message pops up in the left hand corner "saying something about cleaning disk and cache"
Then let the acer do its thing….took me 3 tries to get and realised i hadnt copied the update.zip to the sdcard. the sd card can only contain the UPDATE.ZIP>
Good Luck, lemme know how it goes?
          Cheers

        • Hi cecchy,
Thanks for the instruction. I have reformatted the 512MB card to FAT32, even using full format. My current image version is Acer_AV041_A510_RV10RC03_AAP_AU. I did downloaded the version Acer.AV041.A510.RV28RC08.AAP.AU and extract the update.zip (leave it unzip) to the SD card. Turn off the tab, insert the card, hold volume up button then press power button. Release the power button when it boot up, when the boot screen get to Booting recovery image kernel, I let go the vol button but still got the laying down android problem and couldn't upgrade. The tab will reboot after about 10min into the existing ROM.

Maybe I should try to get a bigger card next week and have another go.

        • yeah well youve done everything right…. i dont know if it makes a difference, but connect to your wifi then try it..
I used a 2gb card so id say try it again….
Another possibility is the zip u downloaded may be corrupt so try it again, because thats happened to me before

        • well, tried to download the zip file as well, test to unzip and seems fine. The only thing I haven't tried is a bigger SD card.

        • Has it worked?

        • +3

I had similar problems, but got it to work in the end.

I was originally using a Transcend 8GB Class 6 MicroSDHC card, in one of those tiny cheapie USB readers from Meritline. Formatted in FAT32 and copied over multiple times, with no luck at the other end—kept getting the Android exclamation mark screen.

It was only after I switched out the card reader with a decent Kodak one, and formatted the card with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HP-USB-D…), that the A510 then successfully ran the update through the described method.

Hope this helps someone else, good luck!

FreaqyGeeq, you are awesome. I used the HP USB Disk Storage Format tool to format my 512MB card and the update just run without any hiccup.

        • Awesome news dle—glad it worked for you!

    • Im having the same issue as dle.

      • Format your sdcard by going to my computer and right clicking on the sd card- format disk- select type: fat32 (This will erase everything on sd card)

        • no luck.

        • try downloading the zip again?
          it may be corrupt

        • no luck at all KiddieKid?

        • No luck at all.

I've tried redownloading the file and reformatting the sd card. In the end I'll probably just root it and put a custom rom onto it.

Let me know if you find a solution.

        • I downloaded the top driver from here:
          http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers
          ( selecting tablet -> A510)
make sure the version no. matches as displayed in the webpage:
          1. Check Image version of your A510 if it's AAP_AU

The downloaded file is a zip file. extract the content and copy only the update.zip to the SD card. Make sure the SD card does not contain any other file. ( Best to format it )

update was done, but my version remained the same. When I checked at settings -> about the phone. But then a notification came on for the system update. Pressed yes and it downloaded the update on the tablet and did the upgrade to Jelly Bean.

          Hope this helps.

          Solved the problem.

The tablet just didn't like the first 3 sd cards.

  • Anyone willing to sell for 250 cash? Melbourne unopened inc. Receipt? Thanks

    • -2

I do have an extra one . how do i contact you?

  • No stock left in ACT. They were all sold yesterday.

  • no more stock at eb parramatta, liverpool, fairfield, wetherill park, merrylands, campbelltown, etc. staff says these are going like hotcakes.

  • … bloke in the Nowra store tells me they'll have more stock middle of next week. Dare I believe him?

    • Must be a former DSE employee.

  • Got the last one in Tweed City. Nothing left on the Gold Coast. If you are the one put a hold that two in Surfers and The Pines, go get them now or they will sell it to someone else at the end of the day.

  • Just a silly question… Anyone has connected this tablet to PC using USB cable? The USB OTG cable supplied can only turn the table to a host. If I use a standard micro USB cable, the connector is a little bigger than the plug on the table so it can't fit in.

    • Yeah. I use the one that came with my Galaxy S3. Works fine.

  • I managed to get one in Sydney today - called the store that had one on hold yesterday, the kid said if you come in the afternoon and it hasn't been picked up, it's yours. I turned up at noon and it was mine.

Any deals for 32gb microSD cards?

  • Any cash back for this tablet from Acer?

    • i tried it wouldnt let me

    • Nope.

    • anybody else get a $100 gift voucher inside the box? i can see a plastic sticker but no card.

      • yes, initially they came with it. But if you read it is eGiftcard and promotion is expired.
The tablet is manf. in May 2012.
Worth a try to contact Acer for the voucher to be used to songs or books.

        • thx for that.

now where to buy a case and cover to withstand a 3yr sticky fingers?

        • +1

not sure about the 3 yrs but I just ordered one of these http://www.skindigitalstore.com/brown-genuine-leather-case-w… ($20 delivered including screen protector)

        • Wow. Thanks for sharing. this one looks really good. I prefer matt ones over the clear screen protectors. Also the prices are in USD, so will add up a bit with AUD.
          Edit:
I found it much cheaper on their eBay Store. USD 13.95 (Approx AUD16) with screen protector.

Ah I didnt know about their ebay store. Maybe next time. Good find. Their case is good quality, been using them for my ereader. Just need to be more careful when applying the screen protector.

        • Yes. For now will try the clear screen protector.
Cover in pics looks real good. As it is Leather one, will look good and more durable than the PU ones. Bought one from their eBay store. Best deal and cover at the moment

Scored one today. Thanks to the person that put the only one at belconnen ACT on hold and didn't pick it up. Poor old Matt at the shop refused about 100 people until he got fed up and gave it to me. Good times!

  • Hi Everyone.
I have updated this tablets android version from ICS to Jellybean 4.1.2 Is there anyway of making it update to 4.3?

    • Not sure. I think you might need to root it as there is no official declaration regarding 4.3 yet.

    • There is no official 4.3 update for the A510

There are however several working 4.2.2 custom ROMS. Now remember, you are required to root your device which voids your warranty on your device.

Im having a look at AOKP which looks interesting

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=8fe9f7159…

DISCLAIMER: ANY UPDATE OF UNOFFICIAL ROMS IS AT OWN RISK

    • Do you think there would eventually be an 4.3 update from Google for the A510?

      • Maybe, no one knows at this stage.

Could try a custom ROM at a later stage

  • LOL who did i piss off, someones gone though and put a -1 on each of my posts… wish you could see neggers…

    • Probs the people who wanted to buy the tablet from the store you got it from :-P

Are you replying to them from your tablet? lol

Seems like JB is clearing out acer tablet covers for $5.00. I picked one up from JB piccadilly in perth.

  • Any good deal for the Genuine 32 GB MicroSD Card as this one only support up to 32 GB.

I could see Samsung class 10 from shoppingsquare for $32 delivered on eBay.

  • +1

The page has been taken down off the EB site, does anybody know what happened? Also, I rang a local store and the guy there said he was told yesterday afternoon that he had to send back all the tablets he had left in stock. Anybody know what's going on with that?

    • Sounds as if they have cut a bulk deal with another supplier for the remaining stock.

      • Lol. Might be true. But most of the stores were sold out and the price was for a limited time only. EB might have done a deal to sell the rest to make room for the new tabs as these ones were like 15 months old model.

    • Spoke to an employee when trying to buy one myself. Apparently, all remaining stock was shipped back to EB Head office so that they can sell them at the EB Games Expo in Sydney.

  • I installed Adobe Flash earlier on the installed Operating system. After the update to 4.1, Adobe Flash is not installing again. It says device is not compatible. Is there a way to play flash videos now from dailymotion, other websites?

    • Im able to view dailymotion and youtube without installing anything bar the 4.1 update

Hasnt skipped a beat with stuff like that yet

      • But I watch a lot of serials which are not on these website due to copy rights issues. Wondering why this one did not support Adobe Flash.
