Hail mini!!
Hail Lilith!
Hail Satan!
My Mini 4 battery dead last week was going to replace it, might as well grab one instead.
Just wondering how this will cope once the IOS 26 is officially released next month.
was thinking the same, how long until it's no longer supported
Does it matter? I mean when i use my tablet i dont even know what os version they all looks a like
it does if you want security updates and newest features + new UI/design
If that's the case , why would you be looking at this
why would anyone be looking at this when they could get the latest mini 7?
you should think about that before asking your question
yes because then you start to run into problems where apps won't run on an older OS, are no longer supported etc
run into problems where apps won't run on an older OS, are no longer supported etc
yeah
also forgot to add that too
iPadOS 26 should be fine for iPad mini 5th Gen and later? Reference (at the bottom): https://www.apple.com/au/os/ipados/
Thanks for that. Didn't realise iPadOS doesn't necessary follow iOS in terms of CPU support.
iPad mini 5 would not support iOS 26. Only supports up to iOS 18.
@mau0086 Appears to be supported according to the above Apple webpage.
This unit from Coles does in fact support iOS 26
Picked it up just now and installed iso 26 beta currently.
Isn't it slow?
I keep it in full-screen mode and do not use the multi-task interface.
If needed, you can disable the Liquid Glass effect via the Accessibility settings.
Available Online?
Apple iPad 5 Wi-Fi + Cellular [128GB] [Space Grey] (Renewed) - Amazon price $199
That's the iPad 5, not the iPad Mini 5. The iPad Mini 5 64GB WiFi & Cellular Space Grey (Renewed) is $269 on Amazon
Sold an ipad Air 1 - 16gb for $100.
Couldn't install much as iOS version not supported.
These are on the same trajectory
What are you on about? Air 1 is A7, Mini 5 is A12. Air 1 is 2013, Mini 5 is 2019. A12 probably won't get iOS 26, but security updates will still last couple years.
For 139 and probably 2 year use out of it isn't that bad.
My wife had the first model iPad Mini (I think that’s the model) and the thing boots up fine and works with all the native apps. I can’t download anything from the App Store (no Netflix, Disney, etc) so it’s basically useless.
This will probably be the same in a year or so which is a shame because the hardware is still fine.
Ridiculous they don’t allow sideloading after they stop providing updates.
Ridiculous they don’t allow sideloading after they stop providing updates.
Get Android if you want sideloading…
You can do that on apple, it's just more painful.
Doesn't that add say ipad 5, not ipad 5 mini?
Yeah got me excited for a sec
This is the only link on Coles.com so perhaps it is a mini.
https://www.coles.com.au/product/apple-ipad-5-mini-64gb-wifi…
Current price matches the ad.
Looking at the digital cataloue online, it's a little ambiguous. The item on offer is supposedly the iPad 5 but when you click the link it shows the iPad 5 but also the Mini 5 underneath. Based on the fact the iPad 5 was released in 2017 (with the A9 chip), surely this has to be the Mini 5?
Image and current RRP are of the mini 5
There is no iPad 5th gen 64GB (only 32GB or 128GB), so probably is iPad Mini 5 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular.
That's an excellent point - def the Mini 5 then.
Where do you see mini?
Be advised: this is an almost 10 years old device.
If by almost 10, you mean under 6.5 - then you are correct
This is iPad 5 released in 2017, not iPad 5 mini released in 2019. The promotion in the link says iPad 5 not the mini.
Except there is no iPad 5th gen 64GB model (so this could be iPad Mini 5 64GB model).
@AussieGargain: No idea, but good excuse to get a refund if not happy with the product (false advertising).
@AussieGargain: Given the picture and the RRP are that of the iPad Mini 5 - I'd say its more likely that Coles missed the word 'mini' in the description
cant believe this is 6 years old, it seems only yesterday. device is still going strong by the way
They build iPads well and back it up with ridiculously long software support, my now 7 year old 2018 iPad Pro 11" hasn't skipped a beat, iPadOS 26 incoming as well. Keep trying to find excuses to upgrade but nothing yet to justify it.
Wow that's good
would this be good for taking notes?
Why not?
Why note indeed.
Point noted
With pencil 1 support, assuming it is actually the mini, I'd say yes. At least for a couple of years.
I have an iPad Mini 4 with an old Brydge keyboard. Works great as a pure writing device.
Will likely pick on of these up as an update to my very aged iPad Mini 4.
Refurbished is BS, no one but Apple actually does refurbs.
Would be restored to factory, checked over, cleaned that’s it.
Theres no such thing as refurbs, it's just a buzzword used instead of saying secondhand because it sounds better.
Yep, Apple replaces screens battery’s etc for their refurbs.
false, i got a refurbished iPhone from amazon many years ago and it wasn't done by apple. they replaced the screen with a horrible screen and the colour and brightness was no where near the original apple screens. a lot of the screen replacement places at the shops will give you an option for a cheap replacement or pay 2 to 4 times more for an "OEM" screen. i got the cheaper screen because it was an old phone and when i received it from them the colour is awful, and brightness was dim. i highly recommend paying extra to get the "OEM" screen. though i can't verify if it is an actual authentic OEM screen.
Apple don't sell refurb iPhones in AU, they wouldn't sell on Amazon would of been a re seller.
Which Coles in Melbourne is likely to have the most stock available? I was wondered. Thanks.
I was wondered.
By whom/ what?
Would one of these last 5 years if it was just going to be used as a reader?
It’s $139
1-2 years I think is acceptable. 5 years would be amazing!
I’m still using my 13 year old iPad mini as a reader. Somehow borrow box still works (not much else does though).
Excellent. Thank you for your reply. I would be using it like that too. I’ll see if I can get my hands on one of these. I was ready to drop $469 on a refurbished iPad 9th Gen (2021) from Phonebot but if I can get my hands on this and get it to last a few years, I would be much better off.
Aim for 1-2 years. Anymore and you should buy a lotto ticket!
Is this one pre or post jelly-scroll?
The AD leads to iPad 5, NOT an iPad mini, but the link is on the iPad mini at $339.
Silly question but where are they kept in store?
Not in the fruit section.
well.. maybe if a new starter is unpacking the stock.. right near the granny smiths.
Coming from a reckless monkey - I believe.
Yes, cause recklessMonkeys tell the truth (and share bananas in the fruit section)
iDontKnow
Must be at the front desk, like where they have the cigarettes. This is where they keep mobiles. Surely you would need a person / manager to take out out a locked cupboard.
Description says;
Retail limit: 2
Promotional limit: 12
Does this mean there is only 12 total for sale, maybe 12 per store?
these are max number of items you can purchase in store. e.g. so during promotion you can buy up to 12. That seems crazy high…. they would need to have a lot of stock to back that if.. that is not an error.
Has anyone found a way of checking stock levels? The website made me make an account and login, but even when signed in there doesn't seem to be anyway to add to cart or see inventory levels for click and collect.
How do you even buy these? Don't you have to be lucky that your local store even sells these? Online it just says in stock but you dont find out until later..
The website has no idea of which stores sell phones. Better to call and ask first to not waste the time.
What is "Refurb" in this case?
I've read it means "quality checked and professionally cleaned" but does that just mean it's someone checks it turns on and gives it a quick wipe, or are they properly, thoroughly checked and cleaned?
What might I expect the screen to be like?
Are they ones people have traded in after using them for 5 years, or are they ones that have been returned within the 30 days period?
These are used devices resold by Boost, I really doubt they actually do anything to refurbish them beyond just testing and cleaning, but I had a good experience with two iPhone XR's that I've bought through them in the past. Both that I got were in extremely good condition with very minimal marks and scratches and a battery health of around 87%. They came with 12 months warranty and you can return these within 30 days to Boost no questions asked and get a full refund, however you need to send it back to Boost's refurb centre since the local Coles can't refund you. https://refurbished.boost.com.au/blogs/help-centre/i-bought-…
Cheers - sounds like it could be a bit of a lottery.
We got 3 XRs 09/2022. All looked perfect. Battery life all around mid 80s. One went low in 12 months and they replaced it. Mine is at 80% now and still ok.
@chrisharry53: @chrisharry53 did you have to go through Boost or Coles? and what was considered low - below 80%?
edit:
nvm, looks like answered above with link.
Also most like this would be the condition these would come would be my guess. From Boost $299 in "very good" condition: https://refurbished.boost.com.au/products/ipad-mini-5-cellul…
@yoquierotaco: I didn't see anything in the above link re what was considered low? Assuming it's anything under 80% within 12 months?
nvm, chris answered below:
Through Coles warranty initially and then with [email protected]. They were excellent.
If phone drains quickly, over heats etc you can return within 1 year for assessment even if health 80% or more. Below 80% should be a simple replacement or refund.
Luck and mostly grade B to grade C for this price range, based on my experience on iPhone SE 2 from Coles before.
Can you check before buying?
Nope it was sealed in a box but easy to return per other people.
Can I pay with Flybuys dollars?
If yes, how is the refund handled if I return it?
Catalogue starts tomorrow.
i'd pull the trigger on this only it it was less than $100

I have checked with 5 Coles Stores in Melbourne South East and none of them have it in stock neither they can see any stock coming to them. Looks like the store who already have them will be clearing their stocks. Not sure if online orders will be taken tomorrow.
Then putting this in the weekly catalogue is just sock puppetting
long live the mini
