  • Just a heads up.
I have purchased this router and the wifi does horrible things. It will just drop network connectivity at random times. I've applied the latest firmware, it has slightly improved things but the issue still occurs. A mate has purchased the same router with the same issue as well.
From further reading on the net, these do have problems with their wifi chipsets.

    • I do not have this issue with the wifi router + adsl2+ unit model, DSL-N55U.

    • Did you send yours in for warranty replacement?

    • There is an issue with the 5Ghz wifi driver included in the most recent BETA firmwares for this router, however that aside this router is widely acknowledged as having some of the best 802.11n wireless range and throughput on both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands around.

I would suggest using the 3rd party Asuswrt-merlin firmware if you're happy with the default firmware but would like some enhancements and fixes (including the aforementioned driver issue) - http://www.lostrealm.ca/asuswrt-merlin/ ignore the questionable website design, the firmware is very good.

    • I am using it since release, never experience any issue.
Easy to setup a DLNA server to share movie to my smart tv and music to pioneer DLNA speaker.

    • Probably firmware related. Every second, brand-new router or modem-router has WiFi connectivity issues until about 2 to 3 firmware patches after release (sometimes even longer).

Check that yours is up-to-date and inquire with ASUS Support about whether they can send you beta firmware that resolves the issue (often they will do this for customers who specifically report these issues as a test).

ohhh…it's a wifi router. Right. I thought it might be a windows RT tablet or something (which I still wouldn't buy at $163).

    • my point was the title is a little ambiguous.

If this router were a computer, it'd be powerful enough to run Quake..

  • thanks ordered one. had been looking at these, then got an apple airport extreme, but it didn't work with my hard drives, so took it back. hopefully this is good. :)
