Verbatim 3.5" External Hard Drive USB 2.0 1TB $169.95 + $10 Shipping Save $135!!!

130

hey guys again
soooo this is my second post XD

ummmm found this when browsing on city software, it's $169.95 + $10 shipping according to the terms and conditions page because its below 5kg…

Apparently it's $135 off RRP and msy has it for $185 soooo i guess if saving $5 will make some people happy then cool, and this is including shipping, if you were to go to city software's retail yourself, you would be saving yourself approx $15
OR
If you were to buy it from msy with their…shipping lengthy shipping process (at least that is what i think as you will need to post them an order form, wait for their reply, and etc), then that would cost you even more…

cheapest i found on staticice is ~$185 from msy as mentioned above…- http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Verbatim+1TB&sp…

Here's the product page: http://www.verbatim.com.au/en_AU/products/hard-drives/3-5-ha…

Oh and maybe you guys could get Officeworks to price match, I've never been bothered price matching but if it works then XD

Hope you guys enjoy!

this is two 500gb drives right? it's huge and chunky! go for the WD at office works, same price, no shipping. Slim model :)

      nooo, it's 1 hdd…=D

I got this from Harvey Norman for $189 with MSY price match not too long ago.

I choose this over WD for 3 reasons (even though they have the exact same hard drive):

    1. A fan
    2. On off switch
    3. An extra year of warranty
  • Isn't it illegal in Australia to say "save $135" based on an RRP that was never charged?

In any case, it is deceptive, dishonest bullshit.
And the triple exclamation marks just make it bullshittier. Why not ALL CAPS?

So the truth is "save $15"? Not so sexy, the truth, eh?

    • well that is partly true
its saving $135 from the RETAIL PRICE

but…like we all ozbargainers know…there are stores which offer prices way below RRP, and for electronics…msy is the way to go

sooo i was just pointing it out to all the ozbargain users that they can save another $15 compared to msy =P

if you kind of get what i mean =D

  • How is the transfer rate ? Most of the USB2 device claim to be "Up to 480Mbps" (60MB/s), but in fact most of them only max out at 10 to 12MB/s. Good ones, such as Vantec can provide 30MB/s and able to run 24x7. Others might get disconnections, which result in lost of data, due to overheating after long hours of running.

Ultimately, it is really you pay for what you get.

  • sorry but I can't find where it says that it has a fan built in…
    can you enlighten me

    cheers

  • Damn, I need one of these or similar. Wanna use it for backups primarily.. but anything that's priceless and irreplaceable (family photos, nostalgic porn, IRC convo logs from 1995, rare movies, etc.) will be backed up on several blank dvd +R's (TY, Verbatim) and stored in a fireproof safe for extra piece of mind.. So is this pretty much just a rebadged WD Elements in a Verb case? Is the WD Essentials worth it?

    Cheers!

  • I got one of these ages ago, not sure if it's the exact model, it certainly looks the same though. There's no fan as far as I can tell, but there is an on/off switch which is handy.

Dunno about exact read/write speeds, but compared to other drives, this one is quite slow I think (when xferring about 750Gb, estimated time required was about 3 hours!)

  • So, can anyone confirm what the actual drive inside the unit is? WD 1TB SATA II?

  • I already have one of these drives, there is no fan.

It's a good external drive depending on your needs, it's a very quiet drive as is a 5400rpm drive rather than the normal 7200rpm, doesn't mean that much performance wise as the 5400 can still spit out more than USB will handle.

Not as fast as a lacie or wd for same size but works great with a media centre in the lounge room as much quieter than both and also runs cooler(what i use it for). I got mine from COTD for $179 so not a bad price @ $169.

city software also do free delivery on order over $200 and under 5kg, so if you need something else at the same time might be handy for free shipping.
