This special price cycles every 3-4 weeks.
Here's hoping Dell's inevitable 4K monitors will devalue this to a price I'm willing to pay.

  • I bought a cheap korean monitor (QX2710 LED EvolutionⅡ 27" 2560x1440) from ebay last week for $300 and I'm very happy. I received it within 2 business days. You take the risk of getting a few dead pixels or some backlight bleeding and no local warranty but for less than half the price it's well worth the risk imo.

Completely different kettle of chips. The U2713H has a wide colour gamut, beautiful for everyone but especially useful if you need good colour reproduction (think photographers, cinematographers, graphic designers etc).

      • True, but I'm also comparing it with the Dell UltraSharp 2713HM which is $559 when 30% off, almost double the price of a cheap korean monitor http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/111691

        • If you're only after size and resolution, you buy the cheapest you can get, if you're more picky, then you spend more.

    • $300… Australian or US dollars?

      They're like ~$US290 last I checked… which wouldn't have been $300 after conversion.

I was looking at them, but then the dollar crashed before I actually committed to buying one :'(.

    This monitor produced beautiful colour

  • You guys who use 27" screens, how far are you sitting from the screen?

    • My eyes are about 60cm from the screen

      • Doesn't the screen fill up most of your vision? I don't like scrolling my eyes.

I wish they would make 1440p monitors but at a smaller size, let's say 22". Apple is so far ahead in pixel density when it comes to screens. No one will make a "Retina" monitor for some reason.

I believe I posted the deal the last time it came up - bought the monitor then as well.

If your workflow is, like mine, purely SRGB based (or if you don't know what I'm talking about) then you can probably stick to the HM version and save some money.

If you don't care about photo/video editing or graphic design (i.e. colour isn't important) then you can buy a cheaper monitor. You'll know if you need a monitor that can be calibrated to fairly accurate colours.

I'm happy with the choice I made, paid what I think is a fair price for a good monitor. I have a calibration tool on the way that will let me tap into the hardware calibration and hopefully squeeze the most out of the panel in SRGB, and the wide gamut is there if I need it for future clients (my personal print work isn't that demanding).

I did have some initial problems with calibration - I don't believe this was an issue with the monitor but rather a conflict between profiles in the video card (which will be fully resolved with the hardware calibration).

The montior itself looks nice and clean IMO. I stepped up from a U2410 and I like the rounded corners on this one. It's no fashion model - but it looks professional.

The only gripe I have is that it didn't buy me as much additional real estate as I expected.
    The U2410 is a 16:10 format - the U2713H (and HM) is a 16:9 format.

This means that in the traditional landscape setup (widescreen) when I edit portraits I don't get any more actual height. If I flip it to portait though it's much bigger. But…I never bother. Just something to consider.

There is, however, a distinct improvement in resolution which is nice and certainly a lot more real estate when working on landscape formatted shots.

    Cheers.
