Good value TV for the bedroom?

hey guys, i'm looking for a TV that i can watch while i relax in bed. i'd like to be able to stream movies from my wireless router, but i can always just buy a WD media player if someone can recommend a good value TV that doesn't come with a feature to play movies.

what do people recommend?

thanks for any help!

  • What size were you after? And how much did you have to spend?

Most TVs nowadays will be able to perform all the features you're after, it just depends on how much you want to spend and how much you're willing to pay for a good brand name.

if your talking cheap i heard Big W is selling a FHD 80cm AWA for $228 starts tomorrow but it only has one hdmi port. i dont know this for sure (1 hdmi port) just regurgitating what i read from another post. or jb has a 39" soniq for $350.

i would reccomend getting an quad core android tv dongle such as mk908 which costs around $60 from china paired with a logitech k400r keyboard/mouse and you'll have yourself one sweet little unit

  • Kogan, they have TVs with Android, dual and quad core, WiFi.

  • Hey Frondono, can you please recommend a good website or search term that I can l plg into google so I can educate myself about how to use your recommendation? Thanks

  • I think Samsung TVs are good value for money. Play media files over DLNA (allshare) and have three year on-site warranty if anything goes wrong. We sell both the cheap Asian OEM TVs (non-branded) and Samsung, and frequently have the OEMs die just after warranty.

    So cheaper = OEM

But Value for Money, which is what you asked about = Samsung.

    • Eh?
Why does my Samsung TV only have a 12 month warranty then?

Our 2012 model crapped it after 10 months (lucky?) so they replaced it with 2013 model (PS51F5000).
Or is it that cheaper Samsung models have a 1 year warranty?

  • A SONIQ email (promo page link)earlier in the week drew my attention to these:

    HD 32" $249

    FHD 40" $349

Each have 3 HDMI and USB. The SONIQ link has on the TV images "Pause rewind and record live TV" but it's clear this function requires a USB drive.

    • +1 soniq 40 fhd. I have that one in the bedroom and it is great.

      • i have soniq 22" with inbuilt DVD. plays pretty much all media formats I've thrown at it. tuner seems strong (compared to my medion 32")

  • Some cheap refurbished Toshibas, I got one 2 months ago for my bedroom:

  • Buy yourself a nice new TV for the lounge room, and your old lounge room set can be moved to your bedroom for free :)

Beds are for two things and watching TV is not one of them.

..wanna relax - don't have a TV in there. My 2 cent!!!!

  • just went and bought myself the sonic 40" fhd for $349 from jb-hifi. just as long as your not delusional and know what to expect for a tv that price it works perfect, sound is a little shit. picture quality is more than good enough, it plays 1080p mkv blu-ray rips flawlessly even fast forwards and rewinds them without a hassle and keeping the audio in sync which suprised me. the guy in the store wouldn't budge on price but i bought it on my 28 degrees mastercard so hopefully it goes on special around chrissy and i can recoup some losses with shopper's protection.

  • If sound is really important to you in the bedroom and you don't want a soundbar or (God forbid) an AVR, here's a wacky alternative.

A long time ago, I ran small 2-way speakers mounted either side of our headboard. It originally had bedside lamps either side, so they were dead easy to remove and replace with the speakers.

It also had a dodgy clock radio in the centre. I removed that and replaced it with an old Kenwood CD car stereo running off a 12V plug pack. Connected a spare flex antenna and hid that under the bed. I used the headphone output (from the old CRT TV) and ran the cable under a rug, then under the bed to the RCA input.
So by changing inputs on the head unit, we had radio, CD or TV. A nice feature was you could alter the L-R balance so if your partner is asleep you can set the volume to 1 (mine even went to 0 with some sound, down again would mute) and watch into the wee hours.

    Kenwood head unit- $30 classifieds
    Plug pack- $20 from DSE
Cable was an extended and modded one, but shouldn't be more than $10 new.

If you have a cast-iron bed frame, it's even easier. Just clamp some active speakers on an upper rail either side.

It's ironic (moronic?); the market wants thinner and thinner bezels, then complains about poor sound quality!
