  • Excellent price, shame I'd need a PSU upgrade to use it.

Note that the 9000 series comes out in October and the 7950 is having price drops soon (went below $200 USD - about 160 with rebates - in the last few days in a newegg deal).

So: good deal, but we might see better in the next month or two, maybe even a week or so, if you can wait…

  • Sold out in Auburn, just called them

New news to me. I didn't know MSY answers their phones. I called a long time back but no one answered the phones.

NOTE: this is the older EOL HD7950-DC2-3GD5 800mhz 3gb model

The newer more expensive replacement model is the one listed on staticice:
HD7950-DC2T-3GD5 900mhz 3gb. So not exactly $100 saving when comparing two slightly different models. One being faster than the other

MSY do answer phones now. They now have a dedicated call centre in each state with a single phone number. Makes it much easier to phone and check stock levels for each store.

    • So short.

Good try buddy, trying to swindle two for yourself!

I was going to buy them all and you'd see them all on ebay with a 50 buck mark up!

  • Great price, this is roughly the price you'd pay for a used 7950. Plus you're getting one of the best coolers around stuck to it.

  • when i listed 2 of my asus dcu2 7950s on ozbargain for $249 (literally barely used cause it couldnt fit into my system)

    nobody wanted it

but now people want it despite it being superceded soon

    • Probably those who got 1 7950 early on and now are looking for a second to xfire. I know I did that with the 4870 years ago.

Superseded? If it works… it's not broken. Besides performance/$ generally favors last generation hardware anyway. I always end up being top tier last gen over 2nd tier new gen based on performance/$.

      • yeh but the downside is its harder to get rid of a 2 gen behind model when the even newer model comes out

you need to factor in the fact that the new models sell for a higher price

so the only thing you need to compare is how much asset value loss there is between models, not performce/$

i.e. even if the performance/$ is higher for older gen
its no good if the absolute $value loss is higher over time.

        using a made up example
if i bought a gtx780 today for $600, i could sell it for $450-500 next year when a gtx 880 comes out
whereas if i had bought a gtx 680 today for $450
i could probably only sell it for about $250-$300

sure the performance/$ is higher for the gtx 680

but if your intending to sell the card anyway, youre going to get most of your money back

think of it as paying $100/yr to have the top end performance vs $150/yr for value

note i just made those numbers up to demonstrate what i was saying. i dunno what the actual values are

but this strategy has been consistent with my personal experience

plus its nice to always have the latest and greatest :)

Just a note for future MSY clearance specials, these are usually only in very limited quantities and store specific. I have tried on a few occasions to buy items listed on clearance and most often they are sold out. They also say they update it daily, but it hasn't always been the case.
