I remember when DS had these at crazy prices too http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102831

    • This one http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/106318 was moved to forums for not enough stock, but there was heaps of stock in my local store. Picked up a twin lens kit for $160, so can't vote a + on this deal sorry OP!

      • do not worry mate. we, true ozbargainers, appreciate your efforts.
i call such deals hidden gems.

  • Seems like a decent price on the V1, though I'm not totally au fait with previous bargains (I'm sure someone will chime in!)

    Also, reviews:

In short, in good light and favourable conditions, the V1 can be as fast as any other camera out there at focusing and shooting.

    • So they are no good in low light unlike the Sony posted months ago.

    • ", the V1 can be as fast as any other camera out there at focusing and shooting." - I think that's a bit uncharitable, don't know many other cameras with that kind of burst mode!

      • Oh I only meant literally 'focusing and shooting', not the individual acts, which include the outrageous 1200fps movie and 60fos burst modes.

    • A good price indeed…

  • +3

Isn't the v1 a more premium version of the j1?
I think they have the prices the wrong way around

    • Agreed.

      • +3

Coz no matter what price they have, right or wrong, at the end will be just another typical hardly norman scam, no stock anywhere, took your money, pain in your butt to get a refund …

        • …..

        • +1

Why don't you just go in store and buy it.

        • Again their online stock system is just another joke … driving around wasting petrol ended up nothing either …

        • At 50% off RRP marked "Hot Deal", I am willing to take the gamble. The worst that can happen is that I get issued a refund.

Ordered mine last night, assume I will get bad news, but if I don't then hey… I needed a camera anyway.

        • +1

If only there were a device where you could speak with the store, but not have to drive to the location.

          That'll make millions.

    • That is a crazy price for the V1. Makes no sense to have the J1 more expensive. Awesome deal!

  • is this better for video than a rx100

    • nope rx100 is better
      bigger sensor too

you can look up the comparison on youtube

      • +1

They have the same 1 inch sensor. rx100 does not have larger sensor.

  • Yeah V1 should be more expensive than J1 - might be a pricing error?

    • V1 has been selling cheaper than J1 for quite sometime. J1 is more popular due to the size. V1 is too chunky for this market segment. Almost the size of a small DSLR.

I got this when DJ's did a $350 price for 10-30 lens and flash, instead of twin lens. Got me an FT-1 adaptor on eBay for sub $200, was chuffed.

Um ok, what the… the live chat window popped up after I clicked the link with this message:

    "Joe
Hello Ozbargainer - Need any advice, talk to a Harvey Norman expert now."

  • +3

The v1 doesn't have a built-in flash and it would cost close to $200 to get the add on flash

  • Tried this for a week then I swapped it for a Olympus PM2. Got a prime lense and be happy forever. Nevertheless this is a real bargain. Well done op

I recently saw the J1 single lens kit for $229 from broadway camerahouse
but this is a pretty good price.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CMdoE7BfRE Seems like its mainly good for its slow motion and high frame rate.. not so much for bokeh

    • You mean DOF

      • No, he means bokeh.

        • Every lens has bokeh. The small sensor size of the Nikon 1 system affects the DOF.

        • Naturally every lens has bokeh, but you can increase the bokeh in an image by creating a shallow depth of field with a combination of aperture size and distance from the subject. This is more difficult with these cameras because the of their smaller sensor sizes and the fairly average maximum aperture of the included kit lenses. Attach something like a 1.8 prime to this and you will increase the potential for a shallower depth of field, resulting in more bokeh in the image.

Man This V1 or J1 with FT1 mount is a Monster!! When you getting this, consider to get FT1 mount thats if you have a Nikor F Lenses

      http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/leonsidik/8620642089/in/search_…

This is a photo of my V1 + FT-1 + 1.7x TC + 70-200mm lens. It looks a bit weird but It's awesome for plane spotting!

      • +1

Yeh the ft1 one mount give extra 2.7x Focal length however it compensates gives extra length without losing the aperture!!!
…Although…the sensor sizes are so small!!!! can't beat the image quality of large sensor… Nikon should have used . Four Third Sensor..

Its good. Get it if you can because you won't be able to for much longer, and not at that price. (oh yes, those are my photographs.. I have a DSLR and I cant stop using the V1/J1 combo instead)

  • i dunno shit about cameras and just want to use auto for everything. Would the J1 be OK?
what's the diff between the two lenses in the twin lens pack

    • Sounds good for your needs. The Twin lens comes with an extra telephoto lens along with the standard zoom lens.

  • I have the J1, not broken after the kids dropped it few times off the table. It was very good for video, and OK for photographs. AF is very fast. Video quality is surprisingly good, and photo image quality is between DSLR and compact.

    • How good is it in low light? So the J1 comes with flash, right?

      • Low light without flash it's horrible but for daily everyday camera it's good. Iso200 or higher you can see a bit of noise in low light.

        • The V1 low light samples just posted above looks very good.

      • I use a off camera flash, using the on camera flash as a trigger. The off camera flash is bounced. You get good results this way. The only thing lacking is the 1/60 sync with flash on.

  • none of the v1 in stock :( i've been trying to find these at a decent price, admitidly i was looking for the s1 or j3 though…

  • Sold Out!

  • Just got call from HN Martin place, said my order is cancelled now due to no stock!

  • Can anyone comment on whether the Nikon J1 powers up without the lens mounted? My J1 will not power on, and I noticed the lens mount is cracked. Wondering if the whole unit is stuffed or the lens.

  • v1 sold out?

  • V1 sold out; what a shame.

I'm still on the (very) capable kit lens; second lens would have been nice and nicer when you can switch cameras instead of switching lenses.

    Not to worry.

  • Umm V1 is no longer on their system when we do a search their actual system… I managed to get a j1 single lens for $250… Then the assistance search for the V1 but no longer on their system. Just the V2 .

  • Moorabbin only have the display model left.

  • I've just got the last one v1 twin lens, the staff offered 3 years replacement and 300 photo voucher, photo book for only $50, if this starts to get issue within 3 years i can just come to any harvey norman to get a new replacement, assuming they got non-stock for this model, they will probably give me a latest model one.

    • I never fall for the extra warranty.

      • lol..me too, however 3 years is good enough for this nikon start to get issue (battery, heating issue blah..blahh) this is not repair warranty, it guarantees they will get me a new replacement if it has issue ( not like normal warranty which they wil send it back to the factory to get repair). By the time i may get v2 or v3 for free.

        • +1

I doubt it they will swap it for v2 and v3 because, even with APPLE one of best customer services they do replace it with refurbs.

I'm pretty sure that the price of fixing will be still being cheaper to giving out new model for more than 20 years (when the parts for the device becomes more expensive to find)
          Hence……yeh…

  • Somehow I managed to get one online and got today. When I opened the box found that few accessories like battery charger strap and all are missing. I guess they have given me used one. Can you please suggest what do I need to do?

    • +2

      return it.

      • thanks for your reply anywaz they gave me two choices.. either get your money back or get all new accessories. They offered me few more accessories along with missing one.

        • +1

Do you still get the full warranty?

If the camera looked flawless and I was getting bonus accessories, and the warranty wasnt affected… I'd take it personally.

Still poor form for them to ship used goods to you as new.

    • Received mine in the mail today. Box wasn't sealed. Manuals were slightly bent and there was some dust specks on the screen. Everything else was fine. I probably got a display model.

  • Courier delivery tomorrow. looking forward to it!
