Have been shopping around and doing research for a new AV receiver to replace my old Yamaha V361, narrowed it down to the below and found these prices to be a good $200 cheaper than local. If you like the deal please use the affliate links.

Sony DN1040 is currently rated as the best under £500 receiver at Whathifi:

http://www.soundandvision.com/node/100300

The V675 is in the same price bracket, also 5 star rated by Whathifi:

DN1040 appears to beat out V675 in terms of connectivity (built-in wifi), a user friendly GUI and slightly cleaner sound.

V775 would be next step up with powered zone 2 support.

I have personally had great warranty service from Amazon Italy, full refund of a broken $150 Crumpler bag no questions asked. Even reimbursed for return shipping of $80.

  • you are a rep of amazon.de?

    • Oops clicked it by accident, lol no I am not

Mods: can you please remove rep tag, thank you

      • Don't play dodgy with us, we're on to you Fritz.

      • you got a rep tag because you posted affiliate links

        • Users who post affiliate/referral links will have the AFF tag next to their name.

It appears the OP ticked the rep button by accident which has now been removed.

          See here

  • The Sony looks like a hell of a unit. Will look more closely! All 230V so I imagine no problems with voltages.

  • Good price on Yamaha RX-V775. I bought mine from Amazon.it, paid similar price - works great.

  • I did a similar deal from Amazon.IT late last year on the V773.

I bought the Yamaha RX-V773 back around November, but it died after 2 days (would power on, and then the protection circuit should shut it off, even with nothing connected except power cable).

Amazon shipped a replacement to me, but it cost $316 for me to ship the faulty unit back via Australia Post (cheapest of 3 quotes), and then Amazon refused to accept delivery several times (we think because there was extra import duties payable in Italy).

Thankfully Amazon refunded me my shipping costs (they must of made a big loss on the whole deal) and I have a working unit I'm happy with, but it sorta put me off buying such large/heavy electronics items from overseas.

I think they only shipped me a replacement and covered my return freight because it failed almost immediately (eg within 1 week). If it had died 2 months after buying it, I may have had to wear the $316 shipping cost myself.

  • Amazon.de, .fr, .it, .co.uk - Always compare these when shopping for electronics!

  • What else would I need to play music? Just bass and speakers?

    • You'll need speakers (bass not necessary, so floorstanders have decent bass), an input device like a BD player - but if you just want to use services like Spotify or Pandora you are good to go

      • By the way, in my Yamaha V775 I bought from amazon.it, Spotify/Pandora does not work ("not supported in your country").

Network radio works fine as well as streaming from DLNA server.

    • A sense of rhythm?

  • I hate the idea of having to import to get a reasonable price :/
The RX-V775 I can't seem to spot for less than $990 AUD here, ridiculous

  • This hasn't expired!

Just ordered a Sony STR-DN1040 with the Express Shipping option including delivery to Melbourne for 471 EUR, which should work out as approximately $667 AUD on my 28 Degrees Card.

That's a whopping $430 cheaper than JB Hifi currently ($1098) and $266 cheaper than the cheapest AU online price I could find ($933 at NAPF Electronics, not in stock).

The AUD currency conversion Amazon offered was not great, should be much better off charging the original amount in EUR to a 28 Degrees Mastercard.

Excellent post, I wouldn't have thought of checking amazon.de for something large and heavy like an amp…

The STR-DN1040 will replace my trusty Sony STR-DA5200ES which has worked without issues since 2006, so I hope I'll never need warranty service.
