they had the skylander bundle for $148 months ago? price gone up near the release of PS4? doesn't make sense.

    • Even then my store had the Skylanders for days before they all sold.

    • That was a limited clearance sale, Why do people keep bringing that up like it was a standard price and everyone had access to it.

I found one for a friend, but it was the last one at a certain store, they never re stocked or sold non bundles that cheap.

I was at Merrylands NSW Kmart yesterday and they had the 12gb ps3 marked down to $179

  • +2

Any change of BigW matching this? I've got an AMEX card with the $50 bonus deal

  • Can you upgrade the hhd in the 12gb model.

    • yes, you just need a caddy and a 2.5" hard drive

    • +2

Short answer: yes, upto 750gb hdd supported.

      • 1TB technically works, but it's an odd shape so you have to put it in without the caddy/bracket.
It doesn't stick out but yeah.

    • +1

The HDD bracket is $11 from JB Hifi

      • can you use a normal HDD
and if not what is aHDD for a ps3 worth

        • +1

          Slim height 2.5" sata :)

I even worked out the two best hard drive model numbers to fit into PS3 super slims! Shame I lost them :P 5400rpm has a good trade-off between speed and heat, the 7200rpm models start to get a little toasty

        • Just your standard laptop hard drive.

      • Found 1 but it says product no longer exists. Tried product search and get nothing!!!!

      • Just got the ps3 recently and no places at all sell the hdd bracket, i tried eb, jb, harvey norman, etc. Even online its rare to come across. Ebay do sell some non geniune ones but are located overseas. Just bought one from mighty ape for around $22.. Maybe they want everyone to buy the 500GB model.

        • I've seen them at Big W. (in the display case thing they have with the entertainment section.

  • wtf they still make 12gb hard drives…

    • +4

      It's flash

    • -3

      Only in 5200RPM

    • +5

There's no HDD in the 12gb model. The 12gb is onboard. It will turn off once you connect the 2.5 sata drive.

    • +3

Matter of perspective. No Kmart near me has stock so this was a relevant bargain.

    • +2

"Good if you missed the Kmart $179 deal"

At this point, unless you can't, I'd wait for some ps 3 sales, atleast heading into Xmas after the ps4 has launched

  • +5

$200 smackaroos for a 7 year old console and no HDD to boot.

    Nope.

    • +10

Think of it as a 3D bluray player that you can also play The last of Us on.
      Seems decent after that.

      • +4

        and GTA V

      • I've often wondered why people keep forgetting it's an incredible blu-ray/3d/wifi/external hard drive player WITH internet capability!

        • True. Compares well even to my $188 boxee box.

          PS3 can run plex yeah?

      • +1

Not really considering the price of Bluray players.

  • +3

$199 was cost of 500GB FIFA13 bundle from Target a few months back, so if you have time I'd wait for a drop to this price.

  • +1

new design looks ugalee and feels cheap, works fine though

    • +1

Meh, I didn't buy one to look at it! I know what you mean though.

    • +3

Then again, I don't stare at my 360 console when I game. It wouldn't make a huge difference, only its performance.

  • +4

Once it drops below $140, I'll purchase one for retro gaming purposes once I make the switch to PS4. That way I'll still be able to play GTA V and Last of Us when my current PS3 dies. Made the mistake of not buying a PS2 before they came off shelves, now I can no longer play my old games like San Andreas and THPS4.

Can't you get a cheap PS2 off ebay?

      • +2

I got one for $20 with a bunch of game 2 weeks back - a fat model so I could use FMCB. It didn't have a controller which is probably why I got it that cheap (I have a 90002 revision d so I didn't need a controller, and hence why I wanted a fat model).

It did however come from a family of bogans and was really dirty and the media remote battery compartment was corroded lol. However it all still functions fine now I've cleaned it up.

        • Now that's a bargain!

      • +4

hey! don't call san andreas lame!

      • +6

        No hot coffee for gavman….

      • +3

Just because I want to play my old games, does that make me lame? Troll much?

Geez dude you need to mind your own business and get a life.

  • +9

This item is pretty good. I have one at home and the games are pretty life like, the picture quality is not up there with a Pixar CGI movies but it's pretty decent concidering YOU are the person controlling what happence in the screen

you can use this machine to browse in the internet, listen to music and watch DVD's as well. very versitile machine for under $200.

the controller/remote thing is wireless just like a TV remote but doesn't need AA batteries which is a plus.

    good deal!

    • +4

i think most of us know what a PS3 does/is capable of

    • +10

      What a lovely post :)

    • thanks for sharing.
      lol.

  • I almost had to go for this because Firmware 4.50 broke my PS3. I managed to fix it but it was very difficult including removing and taking out the hard drive while still powered on several times until the recovery menu finally came up.

    • Wii U & PS3 aren't comparable.
and why would you care about your games not working on PS4 if you have a PS3?
      You don't make any sense.

      • How many people actually got a wii-u at 1/2 price from DSE, lets be generous 100-200-300 nation wide (maybe?) - the Wii-u promo had HUGE ads in the newspaper but very little stock relative to the demand at the advertised price.

Because you are investing in a library of disc games that isn't going to be playable on the ps4. It isn't a good investment spending all that money on plenty of game disc that isn't going to work. You're basically blowing money down the toilet especially when electronic are a depreciating asset especially when a device is EOL. Mind you I got a ps3 slim v1. but I got too much money sense in my brain to see my money flush down if I get a ps4 in the future.

Just sad how people with brand loyalty get the best of them.

        • +2

Your forgetting a true ozbargainer gets the games for a steal… so your point is moot

        • The game discs weren't a good investment. The measurement I am using to qualify this is that you lost money and I can see no foreseeable way that you're going to come back from this position. This is before you buy a piece of hardware that is close to obsolete.

  • It a not steal because the console is EOL with no future proofing. Your just pointlessly spending for nothing since there is NO upgradability for consumer should they purchase a ps4. You just end up with a dead weight from wasting a hundreds of dimes. Not a Ozbargain spirit.

No upgradability that support no continuity with no sight of future proofing your game library.

    • I think they're starting to strictly leave out backwards compatibility out of consoles (from this gen forward) intentionally as porting previous gen games & selling them digitally is the path they are heading down. It's all in the marketing mentality; bring in the new, phase out the old.

      • Which is precisely why the xbone presentations bombed, they moved too soon too quick

  • +1

Surely it's still a fun valuable piece if HW. PS4 games will be $94 etc for ages, whereas you can buy Red Dead, GTA4 etc all platinum now for super cheap.

  • +1

Nice staff discount 5%+ ign 5% now we need is for his unit to go $99 and its all sweet.

    • Yeah give it a couple more years and I'm sure it will drop down like the ps2 did… or you can buy a 40GB from cashies for $96 if you can find one ;-)

  • this is hardly a bargain…

  • kmart has them for $178

  • +1

If I buy this I would also have to buy a TV and GTA V :(

    • If your on a desktop just use your monitor :)
