  • DSE's website seems to be designed to be viewed on 50" TV's, their horizontal scroll just keeps going….

1920x1080 is pretty much the standard for desktop computers these days…

It's not that popular yet, 1366x768 is the new black, followed closely by 1280x800, then the ye olde 1024x768.
Ok, there webdev team really suck, when on mobile, all the links get redirected to the homepage for mobile, did they even test this thing?

        • You would be hard pressed to buy a desktop PC monitor that is not Full HD these days

Laptops which are lower res are either for cost or text size reasons. 1024x768 is unuseable these days on the web.

  • Which one do you guys think is better out of the Samsung and LG?

    • Samsung without a doubt

  • so which is best under 1k? happy to go plasma or led.

    • I bought last year's samsung ps51e550 plasma model. This year's series is the F5500 series for that one. That plasma is incredibly good value. The picture is very true to colour, the tv has wifi, lan, dlna, 3D, and samsungs smart tv apps and interface. Of all this I only use the dlna and do freeview tv watching most of the time. But its nice to have the other features at a sub $750 price point.

However, among the listings here from DSE, they are both basic F5000s… so you won't get the bells and whistles. Might as well get the LED tv and save $30 a year in electricity costs.

  • For the samsungs, which series are these, it plays a very important roll for which, doesnt matter on size or full jf ro whatever, it's funny they never mention which model series only the model number, jbhifi is best example for doing this.

    • These are the F series (2013), model is 5000… which is basic LED TV at 1080p, 60hz.

The eh5306/es5500 LEDs last year (E* Series - 2012) had DLNA, Ethernet, and Smart Interface, but no 3D. The 5306 had the same specs, but a different bezel styling as the 5500. I think it was meant for different markets, but The Good Guys sold it.

The Plasma E550/F5500 however has Wifi & 3D as well.

*Caveat: Samsung brands their TV ranges as "Series". So they state Series 5,6,7,8,9… but in the true sense of the word, they're model ranges, whereas the annual series over the past few years has progressed from C->D->E->F

      • *My mistake… the F5000 LED TV is 100Hz

  • The Samsung F5000 LED/LCD is 50 hertz refresh rate. Samsung when they refer to 100 hertz is referring to a Clear Motion Rate.
I recommend you buy purchase a 100 hertz Refresh Rate, which is found in a 6 series.

    • +1.

A buddy of mine has an LG LED set with some sort of motion interpolation enhancement. Sports look awesome on it, but Movies look HORRIBLE. The Soap Opera effect in movies is really distracting, and is extremely annoying during movies! It made Oceans 12 look like a cheap Star Trek production! I'd stay away from any CMR nonsense.

  • All these tv's have been pricebeat at Good Guys. That makes it even better value, especially with $2 shipping. The Panasonic is $846. In my opinion this is the better tv out of the three, and some research shows it is discounted by much more than the other models given typical prices in other stores.
