OzBargain Exclusive: MEElectronics Wireless Headphones / Headsets from $44.99 + Postage

OzBargainAirFi

Dear OzBargainers,

Thank you again for being so welcoming and supportive over the last two promotions we have offered (found here and here).

Many of you asked for a deal on our wireless headphones, so I set about making one happen. Here's the lowdown:

  • Air-Fi Runaway AF32 On-Ear headphones: $44.99 ($30 off with coupon) - our bestselling wireless set. Available in 6 color combinations, the Runaway is lightweight and comfortable, and was tuned for a smooth, balanced sound.
  • Air-Fi Venture AF52 Over-Ear Headphones: $54.99 ($65 off with coupon) - our recently-released over-ear wireless headphone. It delivers an enhanced-bass sound with no-frills Bluetooth operation. The Venture is my personal favorite - it's very straightforward and easy to use and sounds good whether used wired or wirelessly.
  • Air-Fi Matrix AF62 Over-Ear Headphones: $69.99 ($80 off with coupon) - our flagship wireless headphone, the Matrix has a few extra Bluetooth features over the Venture such as NFC, Multipoint connectivity, and Bluetooth voice prompts. It has a nicer finish on the outside with the matte plastics, faux-carbon fiber inserts, and softer earpad cushions. In terms of sound they are similar but the Venture is tuned for more bass whereas the Matrix focuses more on vocals and instruments in the midrange.

All of our wireless headphones have built-in microphones and remotes for headset functionality. They can also all be used wired via the included detachable audio cables. The Venture and Matrix can be used in wired (or even wireless) mode while charging. The battery life of the Runaway is about 12 hours per charge while the Matrix and Venture can go about 18 hours at top volumes and even longer at reasonable volumes.

Coupon code is "OzBargainAirFi". All prices listed are in USD. There is a limit of 2 per order and the coupon will expire next Thursday, 10/24/13, at midnight PST.

The coupon code also gives an additional $2.95 credit towards shipping. For those who use US forwarding services, this will give free postage to any US address. For everyone else it will just discount the total by an additional $2.95.

Unfortunately the international postage for these gets a little complicated - because the boxes are much bigger and heavier compared to our earphones, the postage varies based on weight. There is a base charge of $8.95 for USPS 1st class mail, same as before, which does not change with the number of units. After that, the postage cost works as follows:

*Each Runaway AF32 unit adds $7 to the overall postage cost
*Each Venture AF52 unit adds $11 to the overall postage cost
*Each Matrix AF62 unit adds $15 to the overall postage cost

This means that international postage for two AF32 Runaways would be $8.95 + $7 + $7 = $22.95 before the $2.95 shipping discount ($20 total after discount). The postage for one Runaway and one Venture would be $8.95 + $7 + $11 = $ $26.95 before discount ($24 after).

Delivery times vary but are typically between 10 and 20 business days for the cheapest shipping method. FedEx shipping is also available at an additional cost and typically delivers in just a few days.

With our wireless headphones the goal has always been to deliver sound quality competitive not only with other wireless sets, but with similarly-priced wired headphones as well. The Runaway AF32, which was released in 2012, was recognized as one of cnet's best headphones under $100 and received other rave reviews from outlets such as PCAdvisor. The Venture and Matrix were released within the past few months and only have a couple of reviews, such as the Android Dissected Venture review.

I also want to address compatibility as it will surely come up - all of our headphones are compatible with Bluetooth 2.1 and newer devices that support A2DP for stereo audio. In practical terms, this means they will work with all modern smartphones and tablets (as long as they have Bluetooth built in) as well as Mac computers manufactured in 2011 or later. Windows computers a little more complicated and require some setup but as long as the hardware is compatible (Bluetooth 2.1 or newer and A2DP support) it should be possible to set up a wireless headphone under Windows 7 or 8.

As before, I will gladly answer any questions as best I can. I can also be contacted by email at [email protected] or directly at mike(at)s2einc.com .

Thank you all for your feedback and support. All comments and suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks Mike!

i know the company has a good reputation in the community but are these products good at all? It's a shame the postage is expensive.

    • I bought a pair of M16 earphones in December 2012. Sound quality is pretty good for the price. The microphone died after 6 months though… I'm still using the earphones but the left earphone is a lot louder than the right earphone.

      • Thanks. I was actually talking about The qualiTy of these wireless headphones.

      • +12

Sounds like they should still be under warranty - if you shoot me an email and I can send a replacement unit.

        • +3

Wow that's great! I'll send an email shortly. Thanks Mike. I'm impressed by the quality and the service of ME (the M6 earphones (sports earphones) I bought recently are working perfectly).

        • Thanks, we try :). If you sent an email over the weekend I'll get it handled first thing on Monday.

    • Remember they have to get across the pacific ocean Ahan.

      • True. They will never be able to compete with Amazon on postage.

  • hi rep.
    1. what about battery life which one last longest.
    2. dimension/size. i have smallish head which is better (in term of clapping strengh, unit isnot moving when its in my head). thanks

    • +2

The battery life of the Runaway is about 12 hours per charge while the Matrix and Venture can go about 18 hours at top volumes and even longer at moderate volumes.

I would recommend the Venture or Matrix for a smaller head - the over-ear coupling keeps them in place better as there's more contact area with the larger pads compared to the Runaway.

  • +2

    AF71 please aptx please……

    • oh yes my note II support aptx so maybe i should get one with aptx ? big difference is sound quality?

      • According to web site, it's near CD quality.

  • AF71 discount please rep…

  • If I knew they have wireless headphones on special I probably waited before I get the ME6 off them, oh well love my 903+ atm.

    Cheers.

  • +3

Sorry, the AF71 has been dropped due to overall customer feedback not being as good as we expected. We are working on a replacement wireless in-ear for 2014.

    • Mike is it possible to do something based on AF71 specs liked having aptx, longer music play back time, flat cable, possibly built in memory card..?

      • APT-X and longer battery life are two of our goals for a replacement model, as well as (hopefully) a lower price and better wireless range. Flat cable turned out not to be such a great idea - when you sweat, it tends to stick to your neck more than a regular cable. A memory card slot is not something we have looked into.

  • Ordered the Venture, thanks rep

  • +1

Excellent price on the AF32 rep! I got a couple of pairs for $48 US each from Amazon earlier in the year. Shipping from Amazon was $13 for 2 pairs.

Amazon still $1 cheaper when factoring postage for 2 pairs, but still an awesome (current) price for a great headphone!

  • Dammit… I just brought your other deal, but these matrix wireless ones look the bees knees!

The reason I don't wear cans at the gym is because I hate the cord getting tangled.

Quick one - What buttons are on the bottom of them? What does 'media' entail? Pretty much just need play/pause and next/back.

    • +4

I don't know if I would use full-size headphones at the gym - the sweat is bound to soak into the earpads. Seems like it would be a mess.

      The buttons are as follows:

Left side: power | volume up | volume down
Right side: next track | play/pause | previous track

The power button is also used to pick up and terminate phone calls and to put the headphones in pairing mode.

Mike - you are a man of your word. Pass on my thanks to the rest in your company.

And well done on getting Kid Rock's little brother to model AF62's.

    • +1

      Thanks :)

P.S. we thought he looked like a guy who knew his way around a rock concert.

  • +1

Great sound for the price - for those wondering if their product is good… and great customer service. you cant go wrong. looking forward to add a wireless headphone to my collection - my A151 and M6's are great!

  • Hi Mike, just a small question for you in regards to the ventures I just purchased. In the Android Dissected Venture review the video shows that the 3.5 cable is straight which is a little strange considering the position of the jack, have you guys changed the cable to an angled one, if not I will get one from ebay while waiting for my headphones. Also is it hard to change the battery in these if need be in the future. Thanks

    • Unfortunately the cable is still straight - we added the headphone jack to them at the last moment and for some reason they couldn't change the cable connector in time. It doesn't get in the way as much as you might think, though.

  • Hi guys - any idea on how these would go against background noise? I know they are not noise-cancelling but am hoping to use these while flying and hate the background engine noise. Any feedback on that? Would any particular model be better for this than another?

    • +1

The Matrix and Venture provide some noise isolation thanks to the closed earcups and over-ear coupling. The Runaway provides almost none.

Personally, I do not use headphones for flying any more. In-ear earphones provide way more noise isolation - potentially more than a good noise-canceling headphone, even. If in-ears are not an option you'll probably want something with active noise canceling to kill off that droning engine noise.

      • Great - thank you for that :)

  • Would these be practical to for running/gym ? is there a specific WIRELESS model i should get?

    • +3

Not as practical as our sports models (http://www.meelec.com/Sport_Fi_s/397.htm) - earpads on headphones tend to soak up sweat and they aren't secure enough on the head for some gym activities. Plus, sweating too much could potential damage the electronics, though we haven't had any reports of this happening yet.

P.S. we are working on a sports bluetooth model for next year - hopefully it will be ready in the first quarter of 2014.

      • Nice! Can't wait for a sports bluetooth model, be sure to let us know when it releases =D

        • +2

Maybe a discount at launch since so many seem to want one :)

  • hi rep, i can't seems to pay with paypal, is it disabled for international orders?

    • Nope, paypal should show up for all customers are far as I know.

I took a screenshot of the shopping cart page here: http://imgur.com/vFT0ZHM

      • ah i found it, thanks rep

  • Got some Matrix and was looking last week at the S6P's before and looks like the Deal has expired. Just by chance I tried the code to get the S6P's and the Code still worked!! :-)

    • Time difference - it's still the 17th here in California ;)

first time post, but long time user of the site. I thought this site was for people bosting bargains, but all these posts from MEElectronics just looks like its a way for MEElectronics to advertise????

    • +1

these are bargains for good quality wireless headphones.

      • +1

Ever bought a van heusen shirt Sammy, exotic coffee beans, an SD card or free training course?

  • Hi Mike, the postage cost for USPS 1st class mail still shows $23.95 when I try to checkout Air-Fi Matrix, it is not $8.95?

    • its $8.95+ $15 shipping for Matrix minus $2.95 after you put discount code in I believe so it's right at $23.95

    • Unfortunately that's the correct amount. See this section of the OP:

Unfortunately the international postage for these gets a little complicated - because the boxes are much bigger and >heavier compared to our earphones, the postage varies based on weight. There is a base charge of $8.95 for USPS 1st class >mail, same as before, which does not change with the number of units. After that, the postage cost works as follows:

*Each Runaway AF32 unit adds $7 to the overall postage cost
*Each Venture AF52 unit adds $11 to the overall postage cost
*Each Matrix AF62 unit adds $15 to the overall postage cost

      This means that international postage for two AF32 Runaways would be $8.95 + $7 + $7 = $22.95 before the $2.95 shipping >discount ($20 total after discount). The postage for one Runaway and one Venture would be $8.95 + $7 + $11 = $ $26.95 >before discount ($24 after).

Total postage cost for a Matrix should be $21 after the $2.95 discount (which applies to the order total).

  • Are these compatible with a Playstation 3?

    • I am not sure if this is still the case but the last time I checked the Playstation 3 does not support the A2DP Stereo Audio Bluetooth protocol so you will not be able to use our headphones with it.

The support thread found at http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-General/B… lists Bluetooth Stereo Headphones (in general) as not compatible.

  • Hi Mike ,

I bought Air-Fi Matrix ,the shipping came around $23.95 ,is it not $8.95 ?

    • +2

From my reply above - unfortunately that's the correct amount. See this section of the OP:

      • +1

Ah my mistakes, thanks for clearing it out

    • +1

Base charge of $8.95, then add $15 for adding the matrix.

Take a look at the original post as it is pretty clear I thought.

    • $8.95 is the base charged by usps. you still need to add $15 for Matrix ($11 for Venture and $7 for Runaway) then the code gives you $2.95 discount. so $23.95 is correct for shipping of 1 Matrix

  • just FYI, if i use the coupon on the sports one it says free shipping -$2.95

    PRactically making money oo yeah!

    • Tricky tricky. Didn't think of that :)

      • haha yeah to be honest i didnt purchase tho just testing as wasnt sure if that was intended

  • hmm… cannot decide between AF52 and AF62

  • Can the Bluetooth on these things be turned off? Can the headphones be used wired on planes?

    • Yes, It can be says a reviewer, Donna on Amazon:
"* Can be used as wired headphones by plugging in a 3.5 mm audio cable, one is provided with this headset or you can use your own."
      http://www.amazon.com/MEElectronics-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headp…

      • But does the Bluetooth turn off when it is being used with the wire? If it does not turn off Bluetooth, then they may not be safe to use on planes.

        • What a lazy…
Answer is one click away. Read the reviews, be informed ;-]

        • Where does it say that Bluetooth can/cannot be turned off????

        • I was wondering about the same thing and searched reviews and searced the word "wired" in reviews. ;)

          Reviewer Twister - Says
          "…
I didn't notice any distortion at high volume levels and sound didn't get lost at low volume level either. As an option to wireless connection, you can use a wired connection with headphones off or even in parallel when they are on. I found this feature to be priceless…."

          No worries!

Obviously these are not bad at all (for the price)

    • +1

Yes, Bluetooth can absolutely be turned off. On the AF32 Runaway bluetooth is always off when you have a cable plugged in. On the Venture and Matrix you can have bluetooth on or off even with the cable plugged in. This allows you to be using the headphones wired (for example with your computer) while also connected to your phone wirelessly at the same time in case a call comes in.

  • It seems you can combine shipping if you purchase 2 if you guys wanted to buddy up and save about $10.

  • Ordered 2 thanks for the deal :)

  • Good deal. I bought a pair of A161P's in a previous deal and they just arrived today. Ordered on October 3 and received in Perth today so bit under 20 days for postage. Ta!

  • OMG So tempting!!!
Been very happy with my M31's..

  • Rep, can you give indication of typical Bluetooth range from iPhone5?

    • +2

With line of sight (no walls in between) you should get more than the specified 10m of range. When there are such as walls and doors it goes down a little but I have no trouble navigating my entire apartment with the Runaway connected to my TV. Unless your home has lead walls, in which case all bets are off.

  • I missed out on the last offer. Really wanted to get the M-DUOS. Any chance of having a similar offer in near future?

    • +1

Probably not for a while - if you like, send me an email or private message and I'll match the previous offer so you don't have to wait.

  • Rep - Do any of these come with washable or replaceable ear cups? Or even just removable so that I can clean them easily. I'm pretty tempted to get a set for running if thats the case.

If I didn't have a set of Logitech H800's then I would have jumped on one of these in a heartbeat, still might get a set though.

    • The ear pads (the soft parts) are removable on all three. We sell replacements on our site and you can also just wash them and put them back on the headphones.

      • That's great to know Mike. I see on your website only grey or red replacement for the 32's, and not the other models. Do you also have black for the 32's?
I gather the cover that comes with the runaways is a cloth one (similar to my 21's). Do you have hard cases for the runaways? (and the other models? as folks may be interested, particularly as your prices are low and worthwhile shipping in the one hit.)

        • +1

Yep, we have other color pads as well, in limited quantities. If you need something that's not on our site we can typically provide it if you just email us. We temporarily remove items from the site when the inventory gets low.

Unfortunately we don't have a hard case for the Runaways. The Matrix (AF62), which folds flat, comes with a zipper case. You can see it here: http://www.headsound.de/WebRoot/Store10/Shops/63028271/5207/…

  • hi rep,

would the Metro AF71 go on sale like this?

    • Sorry, the Metro is being dropped this year in favor of a new wireless in-ear we are developing for 2014. Feedback on the Metro just wasn't as good as we like to see.

  • +1

Hi Mike…You sell GREAT HEADPHONES !…I've just ordered 2 (the Matrix and the Runaway)…The other ones I have had in the past are in ear types and had them a few years now….JUST LOVE THEM…Great Headphones and GREAT SERVICE…Thanks again..Best Wishes Robert

    • Thank you, I am very happy to hear that. We certainly do our best and in turn the feedback from you OzBargainers has been tremendously encouraging :)

  • Rep - Is the af52 or af62 better for gaming + listening to trance music. Wanting to use it for PC gaming as well as movies and music

Thanks again for the wireless sale.

    • +1

Just a heads up for bluetooth headsets and gaming.

A2DP protocol doesn't support stereo + microphone. You either get good stereo or bad mono + microphone. If you intend to use it for multiplayer gaming then consider a wireless headset that supports RF over USB + Bluetooth or just USB RF wireless. Also A2DP has a slight delay, so for gaming and movies it can be an issue. I've actually found that some programs seem to compensate for this delay while others don't. This is for PC, Mac, iOS and Android (I have a lot of devices).

      • I use skype to chat to my friends, so my in-game music would be affected? So these headsets can only be used primarily as headphones?

        • +1

Well you can't listen to music at the same time as chatting to friends over skype with A2DP unless you are listening in mono (and possibly a lower bitrate on that channel).

You can't play a multiplayer game that requires you to chat over teamspeak or whatever over A2DP unless you really want to sacrifice ingame sounds (and the voices of your mates). There is also the issue of the delay that is inherent to A2DP.

A2DP with its limitations still has great audio quality. For music (and general sound quality), A2DP is MUCH better than RF.

There are some bluetooth headsets out there that offer both RF and A2DP, which sounds like what you are after. There's also the option of getting a microphone and having it sit near your monitor.

These headsets at these prices are great. If I was in your shoes I would get one and put a microphone on your desk for chatting/gaming and use VLC or other program that lets you set an audio delay so you can sync up the video to the headphones and set it as a preset :)

        • C0balt is absolutely correct. You cannot get good quality audio (stereo) and use the microphone at the same time - it's a limitation of the current Bluetooth protocols. The way Bluetooth is currently set up, you can do one thing at a time - either your headphones as a headset with microphone, or use as a stereo headphone for music/movies.

You can definitely get a standalone mic to put on your desk and always keep the headphones in stereo audio mode.

You can also get a microphone cable (such as this one: http://www.meelec.com/Headset_Cable_with_Remote_Mic_and_Volu…) and simply use the headphones wired when you need both the mic and stereo audio at the same time. It does kind of defeat the purpose of having a wireless headset but also has some advantages - you don't have to worry about Bluetooth audio being synced with your game and you can also have your headphones (if they are a Venture or Matrix model) connected via bluetooth to your phone at the same time in case a call comes in.

Just FYI, we also carry the adapter you would need if you have a desktop or older laptop computer with separate mic and audio jacks: http://www.meelec.com/MEElectronics_Skype_Adapter_for_PC_p/a…

        • Thanks c0balt + mike :) got 2 of the matrix. Hopefully comes in 2 weeks. Keep up the good work mike !

  • It's just a shame that the charging is not possible via micro-usb, as most phones us it by now. :(

    • On our next generation sets for sure.

  • +1

I just received my AF 62s yesterday from a previous deal ($30 more) and I'm really impressed. Very comfortable, great sound and the microphone is the best quality for calls I've found on any (sub $150 bluetooth headset I've tried). If anyone wants to buy my philips, kaiser baas or plantronics go headsets or jawbone icon earpiece let me know!

  • Really happy to see this deal. Bean looking out for it, since the earphones deal.

I'd appreciate some help choosing between the Venture and the Matrix.

Was going to grab the Matrix, cause you know, more expensive is better, right?
But then I saw the bit about the Venture having better bass. Now I'm not afraid to admit I like bass heavy music, so this leans me more towards the Venture.

What advantages does the Matrix have over the Venture? Clearer audio? Better construction? Flashier case?

I do prefer the look of the Matrix, but the Venture do not look bad.

In regards to sound quality, I don't have super-high audiophile standards.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

    • the Matrix has a few extra Bluetooth features over the Venture such as NFC, Multipoint connectivity, and Bluetooth voice prompts. It has a nicer finish on the outside with the matte plastics, faux-carbon fiber inserts, and softer earpad cushions. In terms of sound they are similar but the Venture is tuned for more bass whereas the Matrix focuses more on vocals and instruments in the midrange.

      • Thanks for the info.

Purchased the Venture this time round. Look forward to them arriving.

        • Good choice! If you just need a no-frills Bluetooth headset without all the extra tech, the Venture is the better value in my opinion.

  • Rep, I tried to ship to US Address and it charges me with an additional $6.03 as GST.

    • Is the address in California? We are obligated to charge tax (currently at 9.5%, I believe) for all packages shipped within California.

  • Was trying to figure out how I can use this with my TV… sooo….:

Since they work wired (via 3.5mm stereo) I guess I can plug that into a wireless transmitter?

any recommendations on a transmitter.. just checked fleabay and they all seem to be receivers only

  • Hi

sorry if this is a silly question, if I am going to use this to do online chatting on my PC, how would AF52 or AF62 handle this? because the old headphones I used all come with two cords for 3.5mm jack , one for audio in and one for audio out, whereas AF52 and AF62 only have one 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable as far as I can see? do I just plug that with the audio out (earphone)jack on my PC and the build-in mic will work?

any help would be appreciated thanks

    • Normally you would just use them wirelessly so you wouldn't need any cables at all. Both microphone and audio will work wirelessly with Skype, etc, as long as you have Bluetooth set up on your computer. The headsets you were using before were wired which is why you needed all those cables.

If your computer doesn't support Bluetooth, or you have some limitations such as the person above who asked about gaming, you can use them wired with a microphone cable (such as this one: http://www.meelec.com/Headset_Cable_with_Remote_Mic_and_Volu…) and this adapter: http://www.meelec.com/MEElectronics_Skype_Adapter_for_PC_p/a…

      • Hi Mike, sorry do I need to buy both or the adapter is sufficient? I just don't understand why I need to buy another microphone cable when the headphone already has a build-in mic? thanks
