10" MSI Wind U100+ Netbook New Faster Intel N280 CPU 6-Cell 160GB $619 This Thurs!

101

160gb/6cell/faster processor Intel Atom N280

For comparison purposes:

  • Intel N270 runs 533Mhz FSB and is a 2.5W TDP CPU
  • Intel N280 runs 667Mhz FSB and is a 2.0W TDP CPU (faster AND more efficient than N270)

The ASUS 1000HE uses the N280 CPU, has the 6x2900ma cells battery and costs > $800. I'm not sure if the battery has been upgraded on this newer U100 or not. Probably not, so I'd assume it's a 6x2200ma battery as in the original U100. So comparatively is a good deal. Consider other netbook prices at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1171893

EDIT: Appears this is a MSI U100+ as reviewed here http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/21/msi-debuts-atom-n280-equi… . An aussie poster at the bottom tells us "i bought this model last week, an MSI U100+, in Australia mind you, comes with everything the same except that it has 1GB of 667 ram."

Cheapest other price on staticice for the U100+ is $639, so a pretty good deal:

I've had bad experiences with Fluidtek, bad customer service, and the attitude of the owner there (Eddy).

    Price is good though :)

    • pay peanuts, get monkeys. Fluidtek is one of those places, unless you know EXCACTLY what you want (and have researched it beforehand), then you don't enter the store. Same applies with MSY.

    Their website hurts my eyes.

How can one view the website for more than 30 seconds?

agree i think i just got a head ache from it :S

  • One good thing about Fluidtek though is that you can actually talk to the owner. And he might throw in something extra or give you a small discount if you buy a lot in one go. In the past I bought a whole system from there (in parts) and he gave me a pretty good deal compared to just adding up all the prices. This was a couple years back though can't remember exact details.

  • Eddy might be an a-hole, but this is a good price. I've had a few mates buy from there and get things thrown in, random discounts.. YMMV.

  • Yeah he's arrogant and rude, best to avoid talking and just buy what you need. His prices are good :)

  • Make sure the chipset plays well with the processor - apparently you get a lot more out of the N280 if you are using the correct chipset. I read somewhere that some new models are being shipped with the same older chipset and apparently they don't run any better.

  • You're talking about the GN40 chipset I am assuming.

It's been promised but hasn't shown yet (that I know of). The GN40 uses more power than then 945 chipset though and the N280 has only a slight speed increase. But I think the value with N280 is fow playing high def content.

This is just based on my own research.

I gave up and got a 14.1" lappy.
