Seriously. Target has this 50% off sale every alternate week (or thereabouts) on microwaves. Do they ever sell them at full price???

    • +12

If, as you say, the sale is on every alternate week, then yes, they must sell them at full price every other alternate week. Only makes sense :)

This model comes on special reasonably regularly. That doesn't make it a bad buy at $114 though - you won't find a non-generic/crap brand 34 litre microwave at this sort of price very often aside from this one…

This model isn't stainless steel, but it has a semi stainless steel look to it and wouldn't look out of place in a kitchen with a lot of stainless steel appliances…

Large microwaves with such a look at this sort of price are as rare as Parramatta NRL wins…

This thing is not worth $229. You can buy Panasonic invertor microwaves for ~$170.
It's not a bad price for $114, but not spectacular.

    • +1

Yeah the original Target price is a bit over the top.

    • Are there any inverter microwaves with convection?

    • +1

Panasonic microwaves are crap. Sorry but its the truth.

They have a push button door opening mechanism which is prone to failure, normally just after the 12 month warranty has expired.

Panasonic were microwave leaders 15 years ago, now they are rubbish. Ask the guy at your local Good Guys how many he has come back for repair…

$114 is a good price for a 34 litre microwave. I am in the market for one right now so I've been shopping around. Sure Breville isn't the best brand, but its not Soniq or HomeMaker either. A very similar 34 litre Breville model is $168 at Big W…

      http://www.bigw.com.au/home-garden/small-appliances/microwav…

      • The Breville microwave from Target is better because it's got a door handle and looks slightly better built.

        • Better than the Big W one?
          I agree.

Better than a Panasonic "Make It So" one - well depends on the model I guess. As I mentioned, I know the Panasonic door mechanisms fail a lot…
Inverter technology isn't that great either. If it was good it would have been copied by now as the patent has well and truly expired…

My crappy Sanyo cooks better than any of the 4 Panasonic inverters I owned before it…

        • Yes better than the Breville microwave from Big W.

probably like most whitegoods, they varies from users to users.

I got my panasonic microwave since 4 years ago. I use it everyday. For reheating and cooking. (Approx 45-60mins total use a meal a day)

I won't trust any sales guys to tell me what is good, because he will want to push whatever he wants for commission or clearance.

My braville 'convection' oven broke (door hinge mechanism broke on 3rd mth, and the last it broke because the heating coil split) on the 14th mth. (Approx 40-50mins total use every other day) Was pissed off with the old design, but now I got back their 'smart' oven, just because it was from costco, 'lifetime' warranty and all.

        • +1 every panasonic microwave i've bought has lasted years :)

  • Bought the Russel Hobbs one few weeks go that was 50% off after my Panasonic microwave blew up after 16 months.

This one seems better then the RH one I have. RH is a budget brand that's pretending to be a high end brand

    • Surprising the Panasonic didn't blow after 13 months - they seem to be designed to do so…

  • I bought this brand with a model BMO100 3 months ago but finally returned to Target because of the bad quality. The problem is if I use this to warm the rice, I can find only the middle of the rice is hot but surroundings are still cool. Also, I tried to heat roast peanuts but only got burned peanuts in the middle of the plate and others still cool. I think this is the result of the uneven distribution of micowave in the oven

    • +1

Tried to microwave peanuts?. No wonder the damn things burnt there's no moisture in a peanut to microwave it. End up burnt.

      • I bought a samsung microwave with triple distribution system and get the problems solved.

The solution to your rice problem lies right here: Heat distribution module ;)

      Here to help!

      it's a microwave, not an auto robot re-heater. ;)

you need to stir stuff whether it's a thick gravy or rice.

the only time you don't need to stir is heating liquids like plain water where the thermal transfer occurs faster.

the only thing going for panasonic is that their inverters heats up the food more evenly but it doesnt mean you dont need to stir it.

      • I never stir rice when cooking it in my 15 year old Panasonic 'The Genius' microwave.
1 measuring cup of rice, 2 of water in the micro-rice-cooker and on for 10mins = perfect rice every time.

        • +1

mate… the poster above is complaining about reheating rice, not cooking it.

as for not stirring , if you don't stir the rice after it (microwave, stove, ricecooker, etc) is done cooking , then you are doing it wrong. ;)

  • bought a second hand five yrs ago and still going strong…no excuse for an upgrade…
