  • Does this include chocolate coated beans ?

JV, I'm surprised you're first to reply - its almost like watching the message go from brain to keyboard ;-)
Get in touch with Colin at Captain Chocolate, he has been winning awards for his new venture of three years. he is a mate, so declaring my affiliation; captainchocolate .com .au
(try the raspberry jellies, they are awesome).

        thanks…

        he is a mate

ask him to do a special for Ozbargainers…

        • +2

          I'm on it.

        • Legit question but can I simply put chocolate blocks in my coffee machine and let it grind it with the coffee beans?

        • No, dont do that.
Gloria Jeans sells flavoured coffee beans, which are roasted coffee beans soaked in flavoring - grinders that use those flavoured coffee beans need extra servicing and the reason why GJs actually use a seperate grinder for their flavoured coffees… but.. if you want to try this at home, and you have an espresso machine, top off the coffee puck with a good dusting of coffee powder for an different taste.

Hey, JV - I cant PM you, for some reason you have that disabled, can't imagine why.
I have the ear of the Chocolate Coffee Beans guy - which variety(ies) interests you? If he can put something together, do you want a trial pack or feast size deal? I'd prefer to take this offline, so if you temporarily enable PM sometime, hit me up.

        • how about something like http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119707 but:

5x200g different coffee beans each bag + 5x200g same but dark chocolate coated?

or 4x500g - 1 bag beans only, 1 milk choc coated, 1 dark choc, 1 white choc, all same coffee?

        • whoa - thats a LOT of chocolate coated coffee beans.

There might be some confusion here, and I might be the cause of it. Choc coated coffee beans are not for coffee machines, or as a beverage at all - they are a treat, to be eaten whole - I like them, but only in small quantities. 1 or 2 90g bags would be enough to share around at a small gathering. (not to be confused with those flavoured coffee beans, which are coffee beans with flavouring on them to make them taste like something other than the usual bad beans they are - they arent good for your machine either).

        • whoa - thats a LOT of chocolate coated coffee beans.

bulk buy = cheap price? :)

          also gifts

Choc coated coffee beans are not for coffee machines, or as a beverage at all - they are a treat, to be eaten whole

i think most know this :)

1 or 2 90g bags would be enough to share around at a small gathering.

they don't have to be all eaten in one session :)

most places sell choc coated beans in 200g bags

btw what's the chocolate quality? belgian? callebaut or valrhona?

        • okay, if thats what you want; 2kgs of choc coated coffee beans.. I'll ask him.
Best if you checkout his website for more info - I don't know much about them, other than he is picking up some great awards, and I love the jellies.

To save going too far off topic, get me on PM if you want to discuss in more detail, or jump over to the forum.

        • Hey, JV - I cant PM you, you have that disabled and we all know why.

          FTFY

        • i think most know this :)

I didn't know they were eaten whole :(

        • +1

Don't feel too bad. I once saw a women angrily return coffee beans because they didn't soften enough to eat after soaking them overnight.

        • coffee beans, not lima beans ;-)

        • @baybeans:

okay, if thats what you want; 2kgs of choc coated coffee beans.. I'll ask him.

actually, 1kg normal coffee beans, 1kg same beans but choc coated

5x200g different coffee beans each bag + 5x200g same but dark chocolate coated

and perhaps also a price for just one 200g bag each of coated and uncoated

4x500g - 1 bag beans only, 1 milk choc coated, 1 dark choc, 1 white choc, all same coffee

          maybe you're right and 500g is a bit big - let's stick with 200g bags :)

http://www.captainchocolate.com.au/chocolate-covered-coffee-… seems like a good option as well

since he already offers 125g and 250g bags, those sizes might be easier than 200g?

note that i am suggesting bay beans coffee be choc coated and not his usual kenya peaberry (single origin and not blend?)

    Ordered! Thanks James =)

    • Thank you. Have an up vote.

  • How can we tell if you're smiling?

  • +1

yey.. free grinding again… what's the shelf life of the pre-ground coffee?

    • Here is some extra info on Wholebean vs Preground;
      http://www.baybeans.com.au/educate.html#grinding

While the shelf life isn't decreased, the flavour reduces faster with preground (vs grind on demand). There are benefits with coffee I grind at the Rosterie - your coffee is being preground on a commercial grinder at low RPM - so you wont suffer from irregular fines (grinds) or burned grinds, its packaged correectly, plus it is super convenient.

    • As someone said on Coffee Snobs: "A commonly used rule is the 3/3/3. That is, keep ground coffee no longer than 3 minutes, roasted coffee 3 weeks and green 3 years.".

That's a bit idealistic but a good rule of thumb.

      • I've been using a 1Kg bag of ground coffee from Coles for the last 2 months in a non-air tight bag and I'll never do it again. I just can't stand waste :P

        • That's a bit voolish.

  • +4

I've also included FREE bean grinding

Is the grinding service pre or post delivery?

    • +8

I'll let you know after your snapchat :)

Hi I was planning to buy some beans before i go overseas, since I was planning to give it to my relatives to show state of our Australian Beans are. However I will be leaving on End of november and I'm not sure if it's ok to buy the beans now and it will keep it's freshness until end of November.

    • to show state of our Australian Beans are.

I can't make out what you mean there… but, if you can, order closer to when you leave for the best experience of freshness.

  • What origin beans are these?

    • +1

this is an expert blend only available from Bay Beans - its different to buying a bag of greens and thowing them straight into the roaster and roasting them up. You're getting; Strictly High Grown E.P. "Pola" from Nicaragua, Mandheling 'Kuda Mas' from Indonesia, Colombian Pitalito Supremo from Colombia and Colibri 'Tarrazu'from Costa Rica.

      • Thanks, Was after the origins. I do like African and Latin american beans.

        • +2

That would be a bean that can run fast AND dance

    • I've taken this over to PM.

    Are yours?
    http://www.republicacoffee.com.au/

  • hi rep, can i get 2 packs in 500g for the same price ? PM me thanks

    • Hi gang - I'll admit it, I've been messing around behind your backs, flirting with all the good looking girls in the room, sending them offers of 4x 500g side deals in exchange for a cheeky whisper in the ear…

I'll have to draw the line in the sand here and refrain from confusing things, so I cant offer any more 4x500g side deals now - I will make it a point to put together a special deal in the future of 4x500g (i'd hate to be mixing up any orders here, so I appreciate your understanding.

      We cool?

EDIT: KEV, Ill PM you with details - I dont want you to miss out on whispering in my ear… ;-)
