52L Starmaid Storage Tub, $7.99, Woolworths OR 7 for $45.93 ($6.56ea) Delivered with Code

860
DB10OFF13DBFREEDEL13

Hi All

Last time these tubs were on special, they proved quite popular. By the time I made it in to store last time around, they had sold out.

Apparently they are much better quality than other storage tubs, and easier to see through, making identification of what is in them easier.

This deal is available in store, but also online. Thanks to the codes provided by den_yong yesterday, you can not only get these delivered, but also get $10 off if you spend over $50.

So, if you order 7 of them at $7.99ea = $55.93 - $10 discount = $45.93 or $6.56ea. Available for click and collect, or free delivery.

Happy storing (of your many years of ozbargain purchases)!!

26/10 - It looks like stock has run out in many locations.

You'll probably be lucky to have an online order fulfilled. Rain checks available in store (however $10 discount wouldn't be available).

Hopefully they are much better quality than other storage tubs. I got a few cheap container from Kmart, the bottom broke when fill it with books and lift it up.

I've had mine delivered now, and I can assure you, they are much better than the cheap generic ones I've bought before.

      Stealing some of mgowen's analysis:

Easily the best tubs are the 52L "Starmaid" ones sold at Woolies and Big W:

      Much stronger
Properly transparent (It's really useful to be able to see what's inside without pulling it out an opening it, especially if it's at the bottom of a stack)
No "ridge" around the bottom (most have this, cuts into your hands, makes them impossible to lift from bottom when full)
No wheels (they break immediately and jam up if the contents is heavy anyway - which is of course the only time you'd need wheels)
Lid closes well / pretty airtight / clip lock handles
stable when stacked 5 or 6 high
      Australian made
      Food grade BPA Free
      5 Year Warranty

      Dimensions: L558mm, W390mm, H325mm

      Product info here.

    • 52L of books is like what? A tonne?

Those cheap black Kmart ones are actually some of the better cheap ones. Just don't try and put a crazy amount of weight and they will last years.

      • I looked at the Kmart ones a couple of weeks ago - just lifting one out of the stack cracked it. There was several broken lids lying around too.

        • That's no good. Were they the thick black ones? I bought a couple a year or so back (on recommendation from this site) and they have been great. Filled up with old phones, computer parts, RC gear and the like.

      • As if I can lift a tonne.

Great bargain with the discount codes, I bought 7 :)

    • Haha, the one bulk purchase I actually believe.

  • These really aren't very good quality compared to the Supercheap Auto ones, which can regularly be be purchased for sale at 3 for $20 every few months. I'd steel clear of these. They are slightly better than the 'generic' ones but still tend to shatter easily and have far too much bend in them.

    • Do you have a link to the ones you are talking about at Supercheap? There are heaps of different ones on their site.

      • If you need clear boxes or something fairly airtight, these Starmaid are the ones to go for. If you don't need clear or airtight but prefer something with wheels that can take some punishment, the Supercheap Auto ones are probably better suited.

They don't have 52L boxes but the closest comparable sizes they have at Supercheap Auto are 45L and 80L. They have wheels, and also they're not clear like the Woolworths ones, just so you know it is a different product we're talking about. But they achieve roughly the same goal, so we're not comparing apples to oranges, more comparing Big Red to Granny Smith:

        http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/search-results.aspx?keyword…

        45L:
        http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-R…
        80L:
        http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-R…

They're not on special at the moment, but every few months they have catalogue sales, eg 45L 3 for $20, I think the 80L is about 3 for $24. If you're buying ten or so you can usually chat to the manager and get a bit of a discount.

The website now says 'Available in store only' so I'm a bit concerned they won't be stocking them any more after this lot is exhausted. I've been buying them for 10+ years, they're extremely sturdy and rugged compared to all the other types of plastic storage boxes I've tried. Never had an SCA one break, but the Woolies, Coles, Target, KMart brands I bought have all broken/cracked/shattered without even putting them through anything particularly demanding. I've acidentally dropped the SCA ones, left them in the sun, put things that are way too heavy in them etc and they've all survived.

I retract my original comment about the Starmaid brands shattering easily - very sorry but I was confusing them with some crappy 'Starmax' brand I'd bought years ago, all of which broke nearly immediately. I just found I had one genuine Starmaid container here, and the quality seems very good, comparable to the Supercheap ones.

          Sorry about the confusion.

I still stand by the Supercheap Auto ones being very good quality, but as stated they're not clear and they have wheels, so these Starmaid ones are better for some uses. According to previous threads, Starmaid seem to be very good quality:

        • Can you sign up for updates just on this product when it goes on sale?

  • Saw it is selling for $6.97 ea on OFFICEWORK website
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Sto…

Buy in bulk and save - 5 for $32
Buy in bulk and save - 20 for $115

    • +1

That is NOT Starmaid brand, that is a generic brand, and will probably break very easily.

Officeworks DO sell Starmaid 52L boxes, but they are $17.98:
      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Stor…

I wonder, are these Woolworths codes published anywhere, so we can price match at OfficeWorks and use ING 5% PayWave for an extra discount?

      • +1

Officeworks will (if the wind is blowing your way, and you're polite etc) price beat anything if you take in a print out of the checkout screen showing all costs including delivery. I've had them match overseas websites quite often (inc delivery of course). Of course, we're talking about a potential $2.30 saving here (for 7) for a fair bit of hassle. If you were going to buy stacks, sure, but I'm not sure it's worth the time, print our, hassle of negotiating, travel etc…. unless you enjoy the thrill! :)

        • And you can use officeworks as a secondary supply at the same price with their pricematching if Woolies/Bigdub run out of stock ;)

  • great deal… got some!

  • Awesome thanks! Was looking to buy some on the weekend, now just have to wait for it to be delivered.

  • the code DB10OFF13 cannot be used any more……

    • Just placed order for pickup from store - code worked fine

    • Have you already used it for another purchase? If so, you could always create another account I guess.

      • thanks mate,

you're right, log onto another account and it allow me to use the code.

        Cheers,

        Bob

    • Both codes I was told wasn't valid in my region (Central Coast, NSW) but it was only $2 more than stated above for 7, so that's cool. It was my first purchase online with Woolies.

  • Out of stock online?

Can't buy it. No add-to-cart. Anyone else having this issue?

    • +1

I'm still able to, perhaps it might depend on your location?

      • +2

Try logging in. Empties cart :(

      • thanks, basically the code can only be used once for any registered user.

    • Hey, assuming your OzBargain info is correct, I tried with a new browser and said I was in blacktown NSW, and was still able to add to trolley. Perhaps a browser issue? I've used IE and Chrome with no problems.

  • +1

Just purchased online no problem with both codes working.

Thanks OP, about to move house so need the storage space for all my crap, perfect timing!

  • +1

Cheers, ordered 7. Going to use one or two in the 4x4

  • +1

Love these things, but I've found the extra compartmentalisation and stacking strength of the 30L ones (which are the same width/length but less tall) more useful in practice for household storage. The 52L are great for some larger items but the 30L or even the 20L can be the better default size depending on usage, so don't overlook the other size options.

    • +1

Yeah, smaller ones would be handy. Sadly the 52L seem to be the only ones Woolies have :(
As a side note, looks like Woolworth Online is experiencing some technical errors. I'm not surprised considering the number of Woolies promos there are at the moment!

  • +1

Damn you OzBargain… 7 crates that I don't need will be in my garage shortly. Sure I'll find a use for them at some point. :)

don't make me buy 14 of it..:-(

      same since last night NSW

I think their online site had been flaky since yesterday evening. I don't think it's specific to this product. In theory, there's plenty of time (assuming stock isn't an issue).

  • If I stack them ontop of each other, do the lids crack? I normally don't put very heavy things in (kids clothes in smaller sizes etc), but my ones from Kmart & Target the lids get broken VERY easily. I don't get them down from the cupboards all that often, but stacking them on top of each other (and every so often somebody standing on a lid!!), break them, although gaffa tape on the cracks seems to do ok also

Or am I better going with the ones from Supercheap auto? 80lt is a better size for me, but would rather go with quality.

    • +1

The lids tend to bow under pressure rather than break. Can handle 50+ kilos, although that's true of the cheapies as well - difference is the plastic is less brittle and probably won't weaken as readily over time and become prone to snapping.

    Bought 7 ! Thanks !! hmhmhmhm should I buy another 7….. hmhmhmhmhm

  • +2

Bought 14, 7 to be delivered and 7 to pick up at local store, however this morning my local store advised they only had 3 of the 7 I wanted and automatically refunded 4 units at 7.99 making my 10 total even cheaper.. Winning! I was really only after around 10 of them anyway LOL.

    • Love it when things like that happen. Although bummer stock is out in your local store.

  • +2

Just got my whole order refunded as it was only of stock.

    • Bummer, what state/area?

      • NSW chatswood

        • Same here, North Queensland. Bought and paid yesterday, refund notification today.

bought 7 thanks - now lets cleanup the garage - :-)

These are perfect for storing blue meth…

    • If you have enough to fill one or more of these, then I suspect you're not too phased whether you save a few bucks buying them :)

  • Woolworths Substitution Notifications

We are temporarily out of stock of the following items from your order. However these products have been substituted with similar products with no additional charges.
Product Ordered Quantity Ordered Product Supplied Quantity Supplied
starmaid storage plastic 52l 7 Home Collection Storage Container Plastic Rolling 55l each 4

They substituted Starmaid with Homebrand lol no thanks! I took 3 Starmaid containers and a rain-check for the other 4. (They refunded me 7.99 x 4 = 31.96)

    I made $5.72 lol

    • Ha, I guess that's a bonus. Sounds like stock is drying up about the place. My local has also run out now. How did you organise the raincheck? online?

      • I chose click and collect :) so I had to go to the store

    • Is Home Collection the same as Home Brand?

  • +2

I bought 7 as well, out of stock and refunded. No offer of a raincheck or substitution, just a rude prick banging on the door outside of the delivery window to deliver the other two items that i had ordered.

First experience with Woolworths online, and likely to be my last.

    • same here

  • they posted me the homebrand ones… now to get refund when i call up or a raincheck

  • Sent 3 of the wrong brand and 4 were refunded.
They messed up a few of the groceries I ordered at the same time.
Unusual from my experience from Woolies delivery.

  • Ordered 10 and added in some items at the same time and successfully received the $10 discount. Noticed that they tried to substitute cheap ones for a few users so checked my order and substitution allowed was on for the containers but not the other items?

I amended the order to remove the substitution and wasn't able to use the $10 off voucher again so had to pay an additional $10 so I emailed them asking for a $10 refund (what sort of backwards system does Woolworths have - every time I use their online service I'm amazed at how poor the user interface is and why does it cancel the order when you make an amendment?).

Last night they cancelled the 10 but the other items are still coming shortly (Western Suburbs in Brisbane)

Went to my local store this morning to grab a few items and they had 10 in stock (Still marked at $15.98 but scanned at $7.99) so grabbed them all.

I don't understand why if they are short of stock they can't obtain it from another location for the delivery or offer to deliver it later?

    • wasn't able to use the $10 off voucher again?

that's because you didn't read this thread!
create another account because the same account won't work twice for the same coupon! :-)

      • But I wasn't trying to use the voucher again, I amended the order and their system cancels the old one and puts the item back in your shopping card. It's a rubbish system that appears to have been roughly put together with little to no thought.

        • shows how "intelligent/hard work/friendly" they are……

  • Placed an order - Got a No Show from the delivery guy - no call no email no sms nothing.
Now suddenly they're out of stock in SA.

  • I ordered these on Friday morning and got a call saying they cannot deliver as they have no stock

  • first time using Woolworths online - NEVER AGAIN!

they email saying it's scheduled to deliver the item today, so I thought they have reserved it for me as they are Paid.

then today comes, no one ever turn up today, no phone call, na-da! until I find them sending me a email THIS MORNING @ 8AM just saying it's "temporary out of stock".

and in the email they did not even bother to write what they will do……nothing like "wait for it to restock & reschedule delivery", "refund", or even apologise for it or anything!

    just an email:

    Delivery date/time:
    Oct 29, 2013 between 10:00 and 13:00

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST BE HOME DURING YOUR SELECTED DELIVERY WINDOW TO ACCEPT YOUR ORDER

    Woolworths Out-Of-Stock Notification
We are temporarily out of stock of the following items from your order.
    Description Unit Price Quantity Price
    starmaid storage plastic 52l $0.00 7 $0.00

that's it! where is the so called "customer service"?

  • had 6 of the 10 i ordered delivered. went to another store, had about 10 in stock, but no lids could be found… so didnt buy any (asked replenishment member, but he couldnt find any in the back dock)

  • Did anyone get their delivery?

    • i got six delivered and 4 refunded. i also placed a click and collect which was out of stock, but i got a raincheck for 20 at $7.99, was told can be ordered especially, but i will wait until they come back in stock.
