THAILAND for Two with THAI - Special Fares for 2 Adults Travelling Together

62

Travelling in 'Twos' is much more fun! Here's THAI's Companion deal to fly return to Thailand from just $873 per person all inclusive…and that's for a full service airline experience with all the trimmings.
THAI flies daily to Bangkok from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. www.thaiairways.com.au

So the deal is that each person pays $875 (Dep: Brisbane)when tickets are booked under the companion deal = total $1,750.

Looking at single price fares, I got fare prices on 3 different dates of $1,090; $1,189; and $1,444. So the saving could be between $430 - $1,138. So I'm unsure why people are complaining this is spam/no deal. Image the savings a family of 4 would have if 2 kids were 12+

  • What's the deal here? Does the 2nd person fly free? What exactly is a companion fare?

  • A deal? & Website not accessible either…

  • "full service airline experience with all the trimmings." - whats full services and what are you going to trim…I don't fly with trimmers…

my return flight from BKK to SYD (morning flight) with them last week got no personal entertainment (only 1 not so big TV in the middle), so make sure to charge your tablets and phones for your own enjoyment.
I didn't, thinking that there will be an in flight entertainment and it was a painful 8.5 hours journey. It reminds me of Qantas flights to Jakarta 10 years ago.

      • That must have been one of the older planes as I experienced this a year ago but I just flew to Bangkok last month and both flights has personal entertainment systems.

Flew to India on Thai Airways for $500 return. You were saying? Don't see any deal here…

    • I believe that was not a deal, but a pricing error.

      • +1

Actually it wasn't. After booking the tickets, I called up Thai to confirm my booking, to make sure they don't cancel my booking because of a pricing error. They confirmed it was a 'one day' kind of deal which got overwhelming response. I made my Mrs call as well, and confirmed the exact same response from two different customer reps of Thai Airways.

Flew with Qantas to BKK for under $800 a few months ago… no deal.

    • What is Qantas prices during the period this promotion is on? Jan - Mar is considered high season and I would challenge you to get a Qantas flight at that cost in the same period (excl Perth)

      • +1

I've just priced a Qantas flight SYD-BKK return in Feb for $AUD701 through Expedia Brazil.

      • Because Thailand is Buddhist, not Christian, it is often cheap to fly there during Christian peak periods like Easter and Christmas.

The opposite is true for flights to Manila…

I went to Bangkok in Easter 2013 for less than 600 return flying Qantas…

Would prefer to fly Thai - much younger, sexier hostesses….

        • Easter is just after Songkran - so its considered low season and hence why fares start to fall and you start to see some good sales.

Xmas is well in the high season and you are looking at more than $600 ticket. Singapore currently want $1,800 and Thai want a crazy $2,250 to go over and spend xmas there. A week ago Thai price for same date was $1,600. Thai prices can fluctuate widely at times, but at the moment looks like I'm spending xmas in Aus.

    No actual deal here.

I think the comments here are quite harsh. So the deal is that each person pays $875 (Dep: Brisbane)when tickets are booked under the companion deal = total $1,750.

Flew twice to Thailand with Royal Brunei - $758 return. Full service, food, entertainment, one stopover but minimal delay.

      • Ahh yes, Royal Brunei was a good alternative for people in Brisbane….until they discontinued the route. They were my preferred carrier over Thai/Sin. Wish they would come back.

      • A good alternative…for those who live in Melbourne that is…

    • +3

The problem is that it was entirely unclear what the deal was. I went through the page and i still couldn't work out what a companion fare was.

You're right though, it looks like an ok deal, but it would be great if the rep actually put in a modicum of effort instead of just advertising.

No Deal, The last Jetstar deal was 900$ for 2 adults + kid.

You cant't really compare the two when one (Thai) is a direct flight and the other (MAS) requires stop overs.

      • +1

But the thai airways deal from Melb for a single ticket is cheaper!

    • Can we also not call it Bangers? It just seems.. wrong.

      • It is just so right, and even better in Pattaya…

    No Deal at all

  • Flying Adl > Kul > Sgg > Dad > Han > Bkk > Kul > Adl for cheaper than this fare. Albeit without the 'trimmings'.

    • Sounds like a great holiday, enjoy!

      • +3

Nice of them to go visit their father halfway through though…

I was in Bangkok recently and missed my return home flight with Thai.

The airfare was a no cancellations / no changes etc airfare. I had even checked in online before I went to bed. I didn't have much hope but I rang Thai and they put me on the next flight back for $100AUD. Jetstar / airasia / scoot etc would have just laughed at me.

Will be certainly flying with them next time as opposed to my usual budget airlines.

    • Nice to hear they did that for you,

I think You could have gotten a similar deal with Jetstar, certainly not with Tiger, No idea about AirAsia

  • Not much of a deal - we flew to Phuket for $350 PER PERSON RETURN last year. This is more than double that price. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not a bargain.

    • which carrier? care to share how to get a similar deal?

      • It was Jetstar and we flew out 7th November came back 17th on a Friday Fare Frenzy. Like the amazing $88 deal to Singapore on right now through Scoot, these deals just pop up occasionally. Gotta jump on them when you see them. Just noticed my negative vote on my comment which is hilarious. I'm telling the truth I took the whole family to Phuket for around $1400 return last year.

How can I get a negative vote when a so-called deal on here is $523p/p more than a real bargain? Not even close!

If the person giving me a negative would like to explain his/herself I would really appreciate that please. I should not get negative votes for speaking truth.

        • What is hilarious is you comparing the price to a flight you went on almost 12 months ago. The point xavster was making (which seems to have been lost during your bout of hilarious laughter) was where someone could find your deal NOW.

I just did a search on Jetstar and a random date fair for one person was $1,701.09 (with added luggage upgrade to properly compare with thai). The dates were 8 Dec - 22 Dec (not the dates I wanted). This requires me to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne before flying back up again to Thailand.

Maybe this is why you got the neg and someone just couldn't be bothered taking the time to spell out to you. I just looked at Scoot and one you add up all the extras (meals, inflight entertainment, selecting standard seat, blanket and pillow etc) a flight around the similar dates is $949. A work colleague just returned last week from Phuket flying Scoot and even though she got the tickets cheap, she stated this was the last time she would fly with them.

So rather than getting all precious because someone gave you a neg on what is clearly an irrelevant comparison, maybe like everyone else here you could actually contribute with up to date information and where someone get get a cheaper price now which is comparable to the service offered by Thai now.

        • Wow aren't you a charming person who absolutely belongs in these forums discussing bargains! Especially seeing as you're person credited with finding the "DEAL" in the first place at the bottom of the original post.

This is a discussion and as such I made a fair comment. Deals DO pop up, and DO pop up better than the "DEAL" you posted. This is why we are all here. I gave an example. I'm happy to send you ALL the scanned paperwork I still have to prove it. When we booked the flight, the fares to Phuket were also around the $800 p/p from other companies. So, even 12 months ago, $350 for an $800 flight was a BARGAIN. We went on holiday because it was a BARGAIN. We nearly booked to Singapore in December this year on a similar bargain my wife saw but it clashes with my work.

So, you get upset because I say your deal is not a bargain in my first post. A FACT backed up by a lot of comments here where people get similar rates from other carriers. I mention a real bargain I had in the past, and Xavster asks basically with who and how you can get a similar deal. I explain how I got the deal (by keeping an eye on the Jetstar Friday Frenzy deals in this case). Another FACT. xavster will not get this deal NOW. But I guarantee he will fly to Phuket cheaper than your original post if he keeps watching the discount airliners and deals. He will save. FACT.

This is OZBARGAIN - A web-site and forum where people share deals/ask for help and share experiences. FACT.

THEN you admit to negging me because of my reply to xavster. Uhm, mate, you negged me BEFORE I replied to xavster's question. You then try to prove your point by finding this deal NOW, finding some random flight to Phuket when there are no deals on at the moment, waffle on about in-flight entertainment etc. all these extras I certainly did not miss when the longest haul was like 5 hours and there are things such a books which have been around for centuries, or you can fire up your tablet for 5 hours easy if you have one. Then you have a crack at Scoot, which I merely mentioned had $88 deals because someone did not like them. Well, I'll stick to real reviews thanks like tripadvisor reviews and AirLikes, which give a bigger demographic of experience. Have a look, there are good and bad reviews there, but none of the reviews would stop me flying them, because I've had delays and service issues flying Thai as well, and most of the reviews are actually positive.

So, even though I got "precious" for giving my opinion, and experience on this public forum as is asked when you join OzBargain and seeing a neg against my name whereas in the past people have appreciated my feedback and I've always had a positive vote on my name….

I understand now where you are coming from.

You just thought you'd show us a product that by ALL the comments above is not really regarded a deal regarded by many, and your nose was put out of joint when this is pointed out to you.

Mate I apologize for obviously upsetting you. I did not know you couldn't cope reading negative comments about your product. I honestly would never have responded had I known. Fell free to neg me some more as it obviously makes you feel better. Wouldn't want to spoil your day again. I just tried negging myself to make you feel better but it won't let me. All the best

        • I didn't bother reading past your first paragraph where you get things wrong yet again. I didn't "find" or get "credited" for the "DEAL" as you will see the OP is SYDNRTG. All I did was clarify what the deal was in a post and then a Mod decided to put that into the deal description so it was clear what the deal was for others.

Seriously, negging a deal based on the cost of a flight you went on 12 months ago (which you can't get now) - you need to have your OzBargain training wheels put back on. A bargain is what you can get now compared to other current rates, not what the price once was a year ago from a budget carrier. You seem to get upset quite easy.

        • It's very obvious you didn't read past my first paragraph. You've already won. Feel free to put in one more post to get the last word in. I'm not apologizing any more.
