Feel sorry for Melway and UBD now that most (if not all) smartphones have in built maps that works as long as it has internet connection & GPS.

I was just saying this to a colleague. And even a GPS unit isn't much more than that nowadays too!

i always keep a melway/vicroads directory in the car - bigger maps can be better :)

33 things you don't need if you have an iPhone:

    • Used the iphone for navigation for the first time recently. When it told me to turn left of a major highway when I knew full well it should have been right, I switched off the navigation and won't be in a hurry to use it for the purpose again.

Item 34: Comedy - The Amazing iOS 6 Maps

    • Last time we did a land search in the mountains, we were told to use either a proper hand held GPS or Google Maps, otherwise we will be looking for more missing persons.

Don't need any of these new-fangled Melways, the first edition takes me wherever I want to go albeit with a few unexpected detours.

Out of curiousity, What would you do with a Melways in Brisbane?
Edit: Apart from dream of a better lifestyle in The World's Most Liveable City!!! ;)

  • Surely $30 is all you would normally pay? I struggle to believe it is ever $63.

Maybe WA has a lot less roads, but I'm sure the UBD here (we have UBD and streetsmart, streetsmart is terribly hard to read by comparison) is only ever $30.

  • I bought it one of the news shop boxes in the corner of William and Bourke for $24.95!

    • That's what I though it would be. Exactly like UBD in WA.

Price is more expensive than locally. At absolute best, it's standard price and still not a bargain.
