Basic/Cheap Laptop for school home works (budget under $300)

Hi Guys,
Looking for a cheap laptop for my niece.
It will be used mainly for school homeworks (word processing, browsing) and watching movies.

Budget: as cheap as possible (~ $250, max $300)
Condition: New or Factory Refurbished
Screen Size: 13.3, 14 or (preferably) 15.6
OS/Platform: MS Windows 7 or 8

Unfortunateky Chromebooks or Netbooks are not suitable for the purpose…

Thanks.

Personally at that budget, I'd be looking secondhand.

You really can't get anything better than a netbook-esque device for this price. You probably could just pop into MSY and get the cheapest laptop they have.

Usually cheapest will be around $350.

You really can't get a laptop for $250, like, it's just not possible really.

    • Thanks heaps - this one seems a good one.

      • Thanks :-)

    • No OS media included

Does that mean it doesn't come with windows?

      • Probably pre-installed with a recovery partition which you can use to create the OS media.

        • Yes. Win 8. No media (CD) though just OS on recovery partition.

Probably should have put the OS on a new line in the post :-)

1.6GHz Pentium, 4GB RAM, no Gigabit, 5400RPM HDD, and likely no USB 3. Look, its 2006 again!

    • I'm sure all of OzBargain would give you a medal if you could actually find something better for the budget.

    • nothing wrong with 4GB RAM, it's plenty for normal use
