"Or you can get it in store for free"

I suspect you mean you can avoid postage if you pick it up in store??

Interestingly still $99.95 on the GoodGuys EBAY store…

    • :) Thanks! Yes, we meant buy in-store to avoid the shipping costs.

  • Always wanted an electric toothbrush… but there's just so many out there.

What's with the sonic or ultraviolet versions? Worth it, or just get something like this one from OP?

    • Yes to this. Anyone care to compare/contrast various electric toothbrushes on offer?
Prefer a model that you can get cheap non-OEM replacement heads.

OH. MY. GOD. I'd just typed out a long informative post to both UFO and mskeggs with data links, pros and cons of various brushes, UV etc. but accidentally clicked on the close tab and wiped everything out. Google Chrome, why don't you have a "confirm close?" dialog box?!?!?!

        Anyway, the bare bones gist:

        1) try to go for brushes that vibrate above 30,000 movements per minute. The Braun/OralB 3D series is my stalwart.

        2) mskeggs, I found this item useful because I was not entirely happy with my Braun brush-heads and wanted more 'control' ie. "if only the 'normal' toothbrushes I liked had sonic capabilities!"
[Toothbrush-Holder that turns your normal toothbrushes into pseudo-sonics eg. Sonic All] (http://www.japantrendshop.com/sonic-all-ultrasonic-toothbrus…). Please note, I didn't buy this model (I am an OB'r after all!), I got my Chinafied version on eBay after lots of trawling. Also be aware, I'm pretty sure this doesn't reach 30,000 movements per minute but it is still a damned touch faster than your hands could brush!

My M.O. now is to use my Braun for quick cleans. On 'full clean' days, I use my Sonic All, attach my manual heads to my heart's content (eg. my Sensodynes, manual Oral-Bs, etc), brush, swap out for other heads, then, for a final clean, bring on the 'cupping' action of the Braun/Oral-B.

Please note, about 2/10 brushes will not fit in the holder due to manufacturers increasing penchant to fashion their toothbrush bodies in the likeness of Japanese Giant Robot Feet: eg, I have 3 generics that fit; 4 Oral-Bs that fit (sorry, I don't know the models, useful huh?); the Reach transparent one piece (McClean? Or Colgate? I forget!) fits; the Sensodyne with the tapered brush-tips fit. The Oral-B Crossaction Pro-Health DOES NOT fit, neither does the Sensodyne with the very fine (tufted) brush-tips. I've measured my knock-off's 'mouth' - anything under 13.5mm should fit.

On the lookout now for Waterpiks, oral irrigators, but that's for another thread…

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna fling myself onto the bed and have a sooky cry while grabbing my RSI-inflamed wrists and lament my Lost Opus to Electric Toothbrushes

        • Ctrl-shift-t that undoes the close tab and retains the typed stuff.

It is worth getting all the sonic etc 'add ons' that you can afford.

The battery will eventually have shorter charge for each recharge (you know what I mean). I always run mine right down at breakfast time and it's ready to be used at bedtime after recharging all day. It's about 2 years old and going well with a new head sometimes.

mskeggs, the heads seem to be all the same Oral B esp is sorta generic, I always by generics. I just remember that the sonic stuff etc does a much better job for whatever technical reasons and $50 is a good price.

    • It is because it makes high frequency noise, hence ultra sonic, that is in audible to the human ear. Bacteria ears can pick up on this wavelength and it doesn't sound pleasant. So they die.

  • WOW. Ordered online with the good guys. Already been dispatched, and got a call from them to confirm the address. Impressive!
