Hi Rep, it says it can do motion detection so you can park the car and leave the dashcam on? How long will the battery last on its own?

I thought the DCODR32 is $80, on your site it is $120. Looks like you are referring the $80 to http://www.dashcamsonline.com.au/product/two-way-street-dco4… but your description in ozbargain was sort of referring the $80 to DCODR32 model.

    • You would need to hardwire or use a power bank to continue powering the device. You can read more about this here:

      http://dashcamtalk.com/battery-discharge-prevention/

Thanks for letting us know the confusion with the title, will amend now to avoid confusion.

I can barely read the plates of anything in the first sample video ?!?!?
(even when the car stops it is difficult - and when it is moving I am hard pressed to read larger text such as the service station sign)
Is that what it is supposed to look like?

    • Yeah I saw that video and can barely read the plate number. I thought Full HD should be able to show it clearly.

The Techmoan review for the same model looks significantly better quality (especially when you select 1080p in YouTube) - it's hard to believe they are the same camera…

Hey Dave (perhaps a silly question) but are you viewing the video in 1080P ?

There is always some quality loss on the youtube vids as well. We are not out to trick anyone and we want people to know what they will be getting in certain light settings, situations etc.

The specifications on this model are one and the same with that on the DR32 review by Techmoan.

      Thanks for your comments.

      • Yeah, I was using 1080p in BOTH cases - if the Techmoan review video is an indication of the quality then it is good.

And I'm sorry if it sounded like I was making out you were trying to trick anyone - I was just mystified as to why things looked so bad in your embedded video…

I just tried your sample video again by clicking the link and viewing directly in YouTube and it looks a lot better (still not quite as good as the review though). I suspect the embedded video in your web page wasn't really showing 1080p even though I selected it. The smaller quality loss of your sample video, even in YouTube, could be down to losses in the editing process when you added titles and overlays to the video ?!?!?

But in summary, if it is the camera in the Techmoan review, it looks good :-)

        • It is the same camera. The raw footage will not disappoint, that is a guarantee!

Thanks for talking it through Dave and have yourself a great weekend.

  • Here is a review from Dash Cam Talk:

    http://dashcamtalk.com/dr32/

  • A good price for the Full HD cam but I was reviewing the Navman mivue 358 and it can do recording while parked and this is one of the reason I wanted a dash cam. I got a laser navig8r on my other car and it can do recording while parked, video is ok but wanted a full HD for my other car.

    • Both of these models have the motion detection function for when the vehicle is parked!

      • Yeah but you said "You would need to hardwire or use a power bank to continue powering the device". My Laser cam will use it's own battery until it is drained.

        • How long does the Laser battery last before it is drained? 10 minutes? Parking mode is only useful when the dashcam can receive constant power supply, that means people will either have to hardwired it to the car battery or connect the dashcam to an alternate power source.

        • On fully charged laser, i can get 20-30 min, i guess it depends on the foot traffic. If the cam needs to continually record as it detects motion then it will drain quicker. I cant find any cam that can do hours without being hardwired.

  • Cheaper on Foxoffer http://www.foxoffer.com/dr32-1080p-car-dvr-dash-camcorder-mi…

    ~$100USD and Free Shipping.

    • Ahh, just noted OP added price for the DR32 - $120. Definitely not as good deal as the Foxoffer posted above now.

That's true. We have to pay import tax, GST, all that jazz that comes with living in this great country. But you will have the item in a couple of days from us and you will also be covered by Australian Consumer law which is not the case importing if something goes wrong.

        Thanks anyway!
