I would rather go for Samsung 840 evo for that price..which is twice as faster than this…

Samsung 840 evo 120gb is available for 103$ shipped from shoppingexpress after the discount using "welcome" coupon code

    • Anything you can say about Shopping Express's service? Warranty? Do you know whether they price match on things?

      • I got it delivered in 2 days..so quite happy with the service..as far as warranty is concerned I believe it would be the manufacturer's warranty so should not be an issue as well

      welcome code does not work

      • Yeah, it seems that it expired on October 31st.
        Sorry for that :)

    • This is a good price for Intel brand.

If you compare it to local prices, it's much better than what you can buy it here for.

As for Samsung vs Intel, that's a different discussion and it's only fair to compare prices of the same product to consider if it's a good deal or not.

  • Hmm, surprised that this is slower than the 520 series. I personally have two 120GB 520 series SSDs and they've been great.

Top notch reliability from what I've heard. I can't vouch for my 520s, but my Intel X25M still works to this very day, so that's great. Back when I got that, it was the most expensive component in my PC :P So that was a loooong time ago!

My Samsung 840 and Sandisk Extreme are also both really good.

  • I have an Intel 520 240GB and it has been great for over a year now. Performs just as well as day one.

I think the main benefit of this model over the 520 series is in idle power consumption - the performance is relatively similar. The 5-year warranty on this series also sets it apart from some other brands/models which may be attractive to some buyers.

Is this international 5yr warranty though and any intel service place to send to in melb i wonder?

  • I have a 120GB 520 series and it's been great. Intel SSD's are more expensive and slower than other brands but supposedly more reliable. My data is more important than any single piece of hardware. I wonder what the failure rates between brands is like currently. Is Intel still worth it?

    • Yes, Intel still worth it. If you prioritize reliability above performance, they're the brand to get.

Performance differences between SSDs only show up in benchmarks. In real world use, those differences are so small as to be imperceptible.

I have a 180GB 520, and it is super fast. It boots up in the blink of an eye almost.
