Congrats on the purchase GeoJohn but please be sure to keep this baby cool OK! I now have three sub-3 year old mid/high-range Onkyo receivers in my 'yet to repair' pile that have overheating issues. I was given two of them and bought the 3rd for some measly amount because they all suffer from the well known heat problems the plagued Onkyo receivers a couple of years ago. Warranty claims have been very hit & miss and have resulted in many never buying an Onkyo product again!

The good news is that they've now included a cooling fan to most modern units like the 626 (http://img0.hifi-regler.biz/pictures/test/tx-nr626-innenlebeā€¦) and I can only assume that it will stay quiet most of the time but could ramp up when the going gets tough. Even though they now have active cooling it's probably best not to stack anything on top or place this unit on anything that creates heat or tuck away in custom cabinetry to ensure proper ventilation. Probably also a good idea to pull the lid off once a year and gently clean the fan (vacuum cleaner or wipe blades with damp cloth) to ensure proper balanced & therefore silent operation… maybe more frequently if you have pets or live in a dusty area.

Friggin' well featured beast though so as long as you keep it cool you should be very pleased with it.

I have the TX-DS797. It's 12 years old and still work like a beast.

        • Yeah, proof that the old stuff is usually better built than the newer stuff unfortunately. I've got Amps from the 60s & 70s that are still working beautifully, some Valve based, others Solid State. Planned obsolescence has a lot to answer for :(

I bought heaps of stuff from Selby earlier in the year. I can highly recommend them. Good prices, service and fast delivery time. Pity I don't need anything more :(

thanks Op. Bought some speaker brackets.

  • I have bought a few things from Selby Acoustics too and found their service to be A1. I've got speakers, antennas, cables, mounting brackets for projector etc. Post is extremely fast too.
