AA and AAA Coles alkaline battery 50c/2pack, $2/10pack, and lithium primary batteries clearance!

200

First post, hope it'll be helpful.

I went to Coles at Randwick first time in a while, and saw unbelievable prices for Coles branded Alkaline cells, and energiser lithiums. I also saw these specials at Hurstville Station Coles, so it might be nation/sydney-wide.

AA - 49c/2pack, $2 for 5 packs (20cents each!!)!!!!
AAA - 49c/2pack, $2 for 5 packs!!!!
CR2 - $5/2pack, clearance. expiry around 2016. normally 15-25$ retail. Energiser brand
2CR2 - $2 clearance. expiry around 2016. normally 15-25$ retail. Energiser brand
2CR5 - $3 clearance. expiry around 2016. normally 24$ retail at coles. Energiser brand
CR123 - $1 clearance. 2016

Stock level seems pretty good, i saw about 50packs of alkalines on the shelves.

I figure the lithiums are on clearance, at BOTH STORES, possibly means most coles are clearing them, since they're typically used in film cameras and who the **** uses those anymore (no offence to those who do)

EDIT: I'm wondering if the alkalines are on "silent" clearance maybe, or some sort of pricing error, as the cheapest alternative (eveready alkaline) is about $1 per cell, far more expensive. I think i'll forget about the environment for once and stock up on these - they're "best before 06-2012"

  • Hmm, I was just at my local Coles today (2165) and actually did have a look at their batteries section, but I didn't notice any of the items you mentioned on sale. Then again, I wasn't looking very hard!

I must say those are pretty good prices for the lithium batteries. I use the CR123 size in some of my flashlights so I might just go back to the local store to have a closer look.

    • I didn't see the lithiums at first either, cos they were all tucked away in the bottom rung of the battery section, some were in a cardboard box under the shelf. there were "clearance $1" handwritten stickers on them. the alkalines were just normal specials.

  • My Coles have had these prices for a while………

    • alright cool, thanks for letting me know. i got 8 eveready's for 9$ a couple of weeks ago. wish i had known

  • I just come back from my local coles (Maroubra), and the energizer lithium 123 still cost $11 there for a pair :(
CR2 cost $12 a pair. I didn't bother trying to bring it to the register though, so I don't know for sure. Maybe it is a pricing error…

    • Looking at the receipt i can tell its reduced - note how the batteries just say "Electrical" on the receipt. Try out Randwick, its just a couple of mins from Maroubra!

  • 45c here last time I looked.
I was prepared to buy some, then I picked them up.
They weigh like, half a gram. They would probably blow up.

    • AAA weighs 11.5g, whereas eveready gold is 11.8. hardly any difference. i dont have an energiser/duracell on hand unfort, and no AAs to weigh. While cole may not have a no-leak guaranty, they look and feel solidly made. i certainly hope their price stays this low forever!

      • I was talking about the AA's.
I'll buy some next time as there, but they'll probably drain in 3 seconds.

    • "They would probably blow up", this must be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on this site (there not lithium batteries).

  • Has anyone else found these in their stores?
Is it just an error which is only in one store?

My local coles in Adelaide have had the coles brand 5/$2 for quite a few weeks now. They also had the energiser booklite for $7 - good for birthday/xmas pressies

I can confirm that the Coles Alliance "Any 5 AA/AAA two-packs for $2" is available at 2165, however the Energiser CR2 two-pack and CR123 two-pack are $16 and $11 respectively. I'm guessing the prices for the lithium cells in this deal are store-dependent.

At coles victoria park they had the 5 for $2 on AA and AAA
and the lithium 123a were $5.50 for a 2 pack

At the coles in belmont the cr123a were $8 for a 2 pack so
it looks like the clearance pricing is store by store

Anyone find the cheap 123a in perth?

  • I got 10 packets of AAA batteries at my Coles in Caulfield. Great value! I was really after AA batteries but they had run out. Thanks for your post!

  • 'Just bought 10 packs of AAA batteries.

  • I was at Coles Lang Cove last night and they were selling the coles AA and AAA Alkaline 2packs @ 4 packs for $1, (i.e. 12.5c per battery!). Shame they didn't have much left - I grabbed the last 8 packs, but worth having another look if at coles.

Are there any stores in Sydney where there are still some left ? Or have you folks bought them out already ?

i think the alkalines are still on, and there's plenty of stock in the coles i've been in recently - randwick, hurstville.

i haven't seen the lithiums for a while now.
